Electronic Dream Plant Gnat SN 401463

via this auction

"The EDP Gnat is the slimmed-down version of the EDP Wasp, yet it has its own buzzy attitude that holds its own. The built-in speaker provides a nasty bite, much harsher than its stinging counterpart, and the filter radiates menace at its higher settings, swarming around your head. You can also patch straight out into your favorite effects or direct into your mixer or sound card for a less confrontational volley with your favorite winged insect synth's sticker coated touchplate.

The Gnat has a digital oscillator that is fed through an analog filter, a trick the designer, Chris Huggett (RIP) used to great effect on later classic synths he designed like the OSCar and Bass Station. The oscillator has several selectable waveforms including Ramp, Square, Noise, and the one we always left it on, Enhance, which moves the waveform around in a manner similar to pulse width modulation and makes the single oscillator sound like two beating against each other.

Next to the waveform selection is an octave switch where you can choose footage of 32, 16, 8, 4, and 2.

The front panel also includes an LFO featuring sine, ramp, saw, square, and random waveforms as well as speed control and an offset amount for setting modulation of the oscillator.

The remaining controls are a filter with resonance, seriously, the resonance is wild, and a pot to set the balance of what is affecting the filter's cutoff, VCO, or envelope. Speaking of the envelope there is a dedicated section of the panel for it with attack, decay/release, and a contour knob. Finishing out the panel is a glide amount knob.

The side of the Gnat has a 1/4" output jack, a connector for the EDP Spider sequencer to attach to, and a 9V power inlet.

This Gnat is fully functional, with all "keys" sounding. It can be run with a 9V power adapter, or alternately with 6 "C" batteries, so you can take the Gnat back into the wilderness with you.

The synth is basically in excellent shape but we marked down the condition due to the faint remnants of someone copying note letters to the first four keys, which we have pictured.

A very rare synth, speculation is that there were only 600 or less made. EDP used a serial numbering system that started with the model number, in this case 40, then starting the count from 1000, which leaves this Gnat as the 463rd unit. We were unable to find another for sale anywhere online."

ELBY Pixie Attache EDP WASP clone with distortion + extra waveforms

via this auction

"Australian WASP clone with added distortion circuit, extra waveforms + a few other sweet tricks up her sleeves.

In my opinion this is the best rendition of the WASP synth and blows the Jasper / Behringer versions out of the water. ELBY is a legendary modular synth company who really know how to cross their T's and dot their I's. This thing has some huge bass!"

Little butler cat in one of the pics.

Rare SPIDER Sequencer! Electronic Dream Plant (EDP) - Rare - Gnat Wasp -

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"1978 Electronic Dream Plant (EDP) Spider Sequencer
Works with original EDP Wasp and Gnat Synths
Includes the Din cable to connect to Wasp or Gnat.

In good shape, no cracks in the plastic. I used this in my synth studio for a few years. Very fun. Can clock it with audio signal. I use to sent a trig out of a Roland Tr-606 with wonderful results. Trimmers on the side to adjust sensitivity.

Very rare item.

from the web,
"The Spider is a 256-note step, or 84-note real time digital sequencer to control the Wasp and/or Gnat. It features a few simple controls for entering notes in step or real time and transposing the sequence a semi-tone, whole-tone, major-3rd, or perfect-5th as well as speed controls."

Note: The unit uses the same 9v power supply the WASP and GNAT use. Standard guitar power supply with 1/8 adaptor tip. (not included)"

Wood Cased Jasper EDP Wasp Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This powerful analog synthesizer is a recreation of Electronic Dream Plant’s 1978 cult favorite, the EDP Wasp. Nothing quite compares to the analog tones produced by this monstrous machine. From leg-quivering rumbles in the industrial realm to the pulsing LFO’s of techno, this thing can take you to the ambient landscapes of tomorrow or even the lead solos you crave on your prog rock group.

It is encased in a custom wooden case that used Moog as an inspiration. It will come with a top board that is fastened to the unit and serves as a wooden briefcase, nifty for rolling out of a gig and into the night.

Some issues with the unit: it was built from the ground up. So the knobs aren’t quite calibrated to be the exact degree where the markings say are, for example, square wave or triangle wave. On the filter section, the knob goes right in the middle of each of the markings instead of right on the dot. The bottom right knob is fully functional but for some reason swings to the right in an overt manner (it goes past the delay marking). The top right of the unit where in the input and output are is kept in place by a single nail. A while ago it popped out but I popped it back in. Worst comes to worst, some glue oughta do.

Everything is fully functional."

EDP Wasp

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction, also on Reverb

"Definitely one for the synth lover and collector, is the gorgeous & rare Electronic Dream Plant Wasp! These were made in the UK in the 70s, and they are now quite hard to find - and even more rare to find one in as lovely condition as this one.

Fully functional, and sounds fantastic - the Wasp filter is legendary!

Note, the plastic on the front 'lip' of the unit has been refurbished, and it is battery operated only (no power supply). I never used a power supply with it myself and always worked beautifully. There is a teeny amount of wear on the paint on two keys as one may expect with a synth this age, but it does not affect the operation of the keyboard at all."

EDP WASP Vintage Synthesizer

via this auction

"Electronic Dream Plant Limited, WASP Synthesizer. Battery operated. Used, all functions work. 5 knobs missing their covers. Some ware and gaff tape residue on the underside. Must have for any synth collector. Does not have MIDI as the one on E-Bay from Sweden wrongly states. The Link connector are for the propitiatory digital interface EDP developed so you could link several Wasps with a Caterpillar controller."

EDP WASP

"Selling my EDP WASP on Reverb and I made a short demo to show that it works."

Pic of the inside below.

"EDP WASP in very good physical condition. Just one very small 5 mm crack in upper left corner (see image), perfect in all other aspects with a clean battery compartment and non worn keyboard sticker.

The internal speaker is faulty and produces a high pitch sound. This stops once "line out" is plugged in. So this is just the speaker, not the synth. (see YT video)

MIDI by Elby Designs in Australia. Works perfect.

Recently serviced. All potentiometers desoldered, opened and cleaned. Which means absolutely no cracks or jumps. All pots work perfect, again, see video."

Punked 1980 Electro Harmonix EH-400 Mini-Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This one is beat up because they were fragile units, much like the EDP Wasp. There are two cracks on the sides of the plastic housing but it still feels pretty solid. Some of the sliders are a little crackly (noisy) when moved. There have been various repairs on the unit so it is now in good working shape.

Also, it is missing it's speaker, so you'll need to use the audio output."

Looks like someone etched an anarchy symbol into the touch keys. Also some other characters.

It features a few simple controls for entering notes in step or real time and transposing the sequence a semi-tone, whole-tone, major-3rd, or perfect-5th as well as speed controls. Although it has EDP's own pre-MIDI interface for connecting it to other EDP gear, it also had CV/Gate outputs for connecting it to other analog synths too."

MAM Warp9 Resonant Filter

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Very Rare MAM Warp 9 FIlter with power supply and original manual. MIDI controlled. Excellent condition from home nonsmoking studio.

The Warp 9 from German Co. MAM (Music And More) is an analog multi-mode filter for processing external mono audio. Its filter is based on that of the classic EDP Wasp from 1978, utilizing a 12dB/oct (2-pole) resonant filter with switchable lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and notch modes. There is a built-in ADSR envelope with Delay and an LFO with 9 waveforms for modulating the filter's effect. The LFO can also be MIDI clock synced for tempo matched modulation of the filter's cutoff, resonance, etc. Other common analog filter effects such as Distortion, Velocity and Key tracking are also on-board. The LFO and VCA alone can lead to some creative modulated filter effects! The Warp 9 has full MIDI implementation which can send/receive all of its parameters.

THE BEST PART? 32 PRESETS YOU CAN STORE FOR RECALL?

Three ways to trigger the filter, audio input level, MIDI note on, or thru separate audio in. The MIDI trigger allows you to do very complex filter patterns.

See the photos from the manual which shows some of the complex LFOs you can get to make the filter dance...."

Almost looks like it has custom yellow EDP Wasp knobs. There's no mention of it in the listing so I'm guessing it's just the lighting. Interesting look though.

This one has been used quite a bit in its life, and has been used on many recordings. It has such a unique character and sound to it, and is so fun to make sounds on. Everything you do on it gives you ideas- it's just one of those instruments that makes you want to create..."

EDP Wasp and Spider and Road Case

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Electronic Dream Plant Wasp and Spider. Also included is a custom Anvil road case that fits the two pieces, and a 7-pin DIN cable to connect the Wasp and the Spider. Both pieces are in very good cosmetic and functional condition. These were obtained from the original owner who packed them away in the 80's and never brought them back out till recently, which accounts for their condition. The battery compartment on the Wasp shows no sign of battery leakage, but the battery terminals have been cut out."
