#jamuary2024 12 Ripplemaker ('Buchla Easel') & Korg Volca Modular (Mini 'Buchla')
video upload by SynthAddict
"Time for some 'west coast' synth action...
Enjoy the wierd, wacky, and sometimes noisy timbres from Buchla-style digital synthesis with complex oscillators, wavefolding, etc.
The Volca Modular is running a modified Krell patch.
Krell patch is a generative style patch based on the amazing sound design from Louis and Bebe Barron for Forbidden Planet in 1956, where the characters discover the old Krell civilization."

At last: the Krell Patch on a Frap Tools modular system!
video upload by Frap Tools
"It's time to confront ourselves with a pinnacle of modular synth techniques: Todd Barton's Krell Patch.
Inspired by Bebe and Louis Barron's soundtrack for the 1956 sci-fi film "Forbidden Planet", this patch revolves around a 'modulation feedback': a single LFO drives the whole patch and triggers many S&H circuits that generate random voltages, which, in turn, constantly modulate the LFO speed and shape.

Acidbox III Fully cranked
video upload by Richard DeHove
"The Erica Synths Acidbox III stereo filter with everything cranked. Team it with a DB-01 and you've got a Polivoks filter going into another Polivoks filter. Both resonances on full, input saturation full and then an added 20dB of input gain on top. Why be subtle?
A few normal DB-01 patterns are mangulated at the start before forgetting about any sort of input at all and just playing latent noise and resonance through a Shiftline Astronaut pedal. We end somewhere among the Krell on Altair-4.
0:00 The setup
1:06 Pattern one
1:40 +20dB input gain
2:52 Pattern two
4:23 Pattern three

Synthfox Introduces EBB & FLOW
video upload by SYNTHFOX Channel
Playlist:
EBB & FLOW: Generative Krell Patch Tutorial
EBB & FLOW: Complex Envelopes & Slope Shapes
EBB & FLOW: Ebb INJect INput
EBB & FLOW: VC Clock Division
EBB & FLOW: ~overview~
EBB & FLOW: Kickdrum Patch & Logic Gate Ratcheting
EBB & FLOW: Bouncing Ball Patch
via Synthfox Reverb
EBB & FLOW goes beyound just being an innovative slope generation combomodule. It consists of two slope generators - EBB on the left and FLOW on the right - and minimum/maximum voltage selectors at the bottom. With its four separate, yet intertwined submodules, EBB & FLOW is a compact and intuitive slope powerhouse with endless possibilities of external and internal patch-programming!
The Ebb slope on the left on the module produces a spike-like envelope, perfect for percussive and plucky sounds. Ebb can be set to loop and become a voltage-controlled time base generator of an immense time range. The inject input allows to use it as a vca/filter/suboctaver crossbreed with audio, or as a negative voltage transition slew limiter. The Flow slope on the right acts like an attack-decay or attack-release envelope when actuated through trig or gate inputs respectively. Rise and Fall times have individual CV inputs and a joined both CV in. Flow has two logic outputs along with its slope out, allowing for smart patch-programming inside and outside of the unit. Flow can be looped, producing an arbitrary shaped oscillation. The OMNI input provides instant control over all time parameters of the module, allowing to make the patch-programmed havoc drift together to slower or faster territories!
The Max and Min voltage selectors are a separate submodule. Its range of applications is OR/AND functions for gates and other logic signals, creative sound mixing and rectification, CV mangling and more. The inputs of Max and Min have outputs of Ebb and Flow normalled in, so with nothing plugged in, they act as instant combinators for of the two slope generators.
MODULE FEATURES
EBB voltage controlled decay-only slope with 2 triggering modes, VC looping, shape control and voltage injection
FLOW voltage controlled rise and fall slope with trig (AD) and gate (AR) mode and logic outputs for patch programming
EBB and FLOW time settings continuously span from very slow CV to audio-rate
The OMNI control voltage input controls all time settings, allowing for easy access to dramatic movements
MAX and MIN voltage selectors useful as logic functions, audio manglers, CV layering tools, and more
EBB and FLOW outputs normalled to both MAX and MIN inputs for instant slope combinator action
Four submodules in one, usable completely separately, but matched and intertwined for creative patching inside and outside of the unit

War of the Worlds 2023 AI by Cinematic Laboratory w/ Cameos from Todd Barton and Walker Farrell
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"The Hague, Netherlands, August 25, 2023 — Step into the immersive musical world of modular artist Cinematic Laboratory as it unveils its latest sonic endeavor, 'War of the Worlds 2023 AI.' The album showcases the fusion of an audio comic with music, 3D field recordings, cutting-edge AI text-to-speech dialogs and Chat GPT ghostwriting. By combining handmade sounds, real analog voltage, and digital magic, Cinematic Laboratory stretching the boundaries of 21st century 'home studio' music production.
'War of the Worlds 2023 AI' features eight music tracks that traverse between B-movie clichés and the real challenges of living in an uncertain future. Each track creates a realm where imagination intertwines with reality, taking listeners on a journey where our own fear is a formidable adversary. What sets this album apart is the groundbreaking use of AI voice actors, infusing the characters with artificial ‘overacting’ and bringing the story to life. They seem to have a mind of their own and turned the story into a comic beyond production control. It just shaped itself. While the use of 'deep fake celebrities' remains a topic of debate and controversy, it adds a bit of realism to the album. The album is accompanied by a single release called ‘Elevator Music 2023 WOTW’ which also doubles as a trailer.
Synopsis: The machinery of an extinct alien Krell civilization decides to bring a gift to Earth. The ability to materialize and realize anything you can think of. After receiving a mysterious transmission, a desert festival for open minded thinkers will be the catalyst for a worldwide invasion as our deepest fears and nightmares manifest themselves and turns against us. The Earth turns into a purple jungle infested by huge tripods, drones, zombies and fungi. Meanwhile, scientists Daisy, Brian and Walker patch up a dream machine that helps us to channel our imagination in a more constructive way. They manage to inspire the US President and together they bring this ‘immersive musical audio comic book’ to a ‘happily ever after’.
Starting from H.G. Wells' timeless book and the 1956 classic movie 'Forbidden Planet,' Cinematic Laboratory's interpretation of 'War of the Worlds' takes an unpredictable direction. Instead of an invasion from Mars, the album delves into the internal battle of the human mind, where our fears and nightmares manifest through ancient alien technology. It is a compelling exploration of the power of imagination and its ability to shape, disrupt, damage, and heal our lives. It's a force that cannot be defeated by the common cold. Just imagine growing up in a world where your reality is forged and can’t always be trusted.
As an emerging modular artist, Cinematic Laboratory is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of musical expression and storytelling. The compositions blend various modern genres and influences, creating a sonic landscape that is both alien and strangely familiar. With 'War of the Worlds 2023 AI,' Cinematic Laboratory aims to establish itself as a rogue ambient music pioneer, exploring new frontiers while sharing the experience on YouTube. The Lab currently boasts over 500 videos online and is a highly appreciated channel devoted to modular synthesis. The album features cameos from Todd Barton and Walker Farrell who make a lot of waves in the modular community.
'War of the Worlds 2023 AI' is available on all major streaming platforms on August 25. Bandcamp offers a special download and contains scripts and an instrumental bonus album.

KING KRELL
video upload by MAKEN0ISE
"A self-playing Spectraphon/Morphagene patch! 'King Krell' is the brainchild of Jon King and Rodent516. It utilizes the Spectraphon and Morphagene's CV outputs to create a self-playing system with no additional modulation sources needed! (But it could be fun to expand from here...)
The 'Krell patch,' originally by Todd Barton, is a famous self-playing patch technique inspired by music from the film Forbidden Planet. Various approaches to Krell have been featured on our channel before:"

Destroy the Earth ( Dirtywave M8)
video upload by Avrilcadabra
"Whipped up this track yesterday, Might to a break down video as it's probably interesting.
Had no motivation to be creative lately, just been waiting for A.I to take over and end it all. My laptop died, and some other b.s. This video is filmed on my phone as I just didn't feel like doing the whole DSLR and syncing today. Hope thats ok.
The track has some commodore 64 speech thats being live mangled, some samples from a foreign station (maybe it isn't I don't understand it) that seems to be illegally broadcasting on airport frequencies. A snippet of my eternal ambient space ship sleep drone that I will one day post. If you have a sub this should have some good bass. There some lofi krell stuff going on in here, and managed to get hypesynth feedbacking like a guitar amp. other weird techniques, lot of generative stuff in this.
Still don't have OBS etc working again on this second hand laptop so it has been a bit of a set back."

Uncharted Space | Patching a 'Krell' on the System Cartesian
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"When it's about MakeNoise gear, I love to do special requests. So feel free to share your ideas. Obviously this is for privileged System Cartesian owners or anyone with a dual function generator, a source of uncertainty, a vco and a vca. So get your TTA/Buchla 200T series out. You don't need a sequencer.
Why not try something like this on the Tape & Microsound and use QPAS as a VCA! It will work too and you'll get amazing results with a cool Morphagene reel. Maybe even a single cycle wavetable reel. Go visit uncharted space and (don't) get lost."
