Black Quasimidi 309 Groove-X Klaus Schultze Edition

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

You can find a demo of one posted here.

"A special version of the Rave-O-Lution 309 with a black finish, special patterns, and two sound expansion boards (Drum X & Synth X)

A lot of the internal patterns sound like direct excerpts from Klaus Schulze's techno albums.

The 309 is pretty much a Roland TR808/909 drum machine with a TB303 built in. It has a sequencer, dozens of drum, percussion and synth sounds to choose from, four audio outputs, two audio input, built-in effects and MIDI.

The bass drum, snare and hi-hat sounds can be chosen from a whole bank of samples and have pitch and decay knobs to help find that perfect tone.

There's a 12-note polyphonic bank of percussion sounds which include a lot of synth and string hits.

The mono lead/bass synth has a variable lowpass filter with resonance so you can tweak to your hearts content.

Effects wise, there's the "Overblast" overdrive knob as well as delay, flanger, reverb and more!"

Quasimidi RAVE-O-LUTION 309 [FULLY EXPANDED]

via this auction

"Straight outta 1996 Germany!

Has all 3 expansions (see photos)
Audio [MORE OUTPUTS!]
Drum X [MORE CHUNKY BEATS!]
Synth X [MORE FAT BASS AND LEADS!]

The Rave-O-Lution 309 from now long gone German synth company Quasimidi.

It was generally sought after due to having tweakable drums from all the classic drum machines including 808s, 909s, and more!

While originally intended for techno (and it does techno really well!), its sound palette is quite versatile due to having so many tweakable options on the front panel."

Synth Rorschach #66: Lauri Glocke and the Apollo 11 Moon Landing

This one is in via long time MATRIXSYNTH reader loscha, spotted it in this article: "How the Apollo 11 Moon landing was achieved with the vital help of Carnarvon Tracking Station"

"PHOTO: Lauri Glocke went from working as a waitress to an equipment operator at the base. (Supplied: Lauri Glocke)"

And: "For Lauri Glocke, who was aged just 15 when the Carnarvon base opened, it provided an extraordinary opportunity."

Reminds me of the recently posted stacked EMS Rehberg Analyse-Filterbank B1-IIs, but with knobs instead of sliders.  The bottom section also reminds me of a white Crumar Bit 01 rack synth.

Uber Rare Emulator Analog Interface

This one is in via Loscha who had the following to say:

"I'm helping a friend clean up and we found this. We're going to try set it up for testing, but it will be for sale ultimately. We're going to hook up the mains, and make sure the CPU still turns over and generates a signal. We don't know anyone in Melbourne with an Emulator to try and pair it up with, though.

Probably the rarest bit of E-Mu kit that's out there. There are very few references to it, and these are the only good quality pictures of it available. Even after it sells, I want to keep the gallery of images, as it's a fascinating bit of weirdness."

Indeed. You'll find some pics of the inside below and at the gallery here.

Loscha plays the EMS VCS3 aka "Putney"

Published on Sep 21, 2016 Edward Jones

"So, I had a crack at a Synthi a few years ago.
I had a good understanding of different synthesis methods and modulation routings, so, I was able to make some pretty neat sounds on this beast.

I don't own the synth, and the person who owned this when I played it doesn't own it any more, so don't ask.

Raj Musicals Deluxe Dhruva Drone Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

A video of one recently went up here.

"This is a rare Indian audio synth. It produces sounds similar to a harmonium, with a primary oscillator and two harmonizing oscillators that can be switched on or off.

There is a main volume control, as well as coarse and fine tuning for all three oscillators. It is powered with attached power cord or C batteries.."

Update via Loscha in the comments: "These are actually from the 90s, although they surely do look 60s.

I contacted Radel Saraang for information about these devices, and they no longer had the schematic, but, confirmed manufacturing time frame."

1960'S RAJ MUSICALS SARAANG 4 OSCILLATOR ANALOG TANPURA by Distrance Research

Published on Dec 18, 2012 distanceresearch

"Pretty rare instrument. From what I gather Raj Musicals is kind of the Yamaha/Casio of Indian instruments in modern times. In the 60's maybe 70's they produced the Saraang Deluxe analog tanpura. It runs on C batteries or power cord, has a built in speaker and 1/8" output. Produces some pretty pleasing drone sounds from its 6 note sequence. Pretty fun little analog machine, capable of pleasing detuning and tone manipulating."

Synth Rorschach #37: Vintage Beckman 999 IC Tester

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

This one in via Loscha via this auction.

This one should be pretty obvious. It appears to be the exact same part used in the synth I'm thinking about. If so, it would be interesting. It would mean the synth manufacturer either sourced it or produced it and made it available to other manufacturers. If anyone knows, feel free to comment. Update via Colin f in the comments: these were made by a manufacturer name Cherry. I actually posted some here previously.

"Here is a vintage Beckman model 999 IC Tester. Just what you need to test old TTL and other IC's."

See the Synth Rorschach channel at the bottom of this post for more.

"For sale here is something that has been close to my heart for many years. I have used these synthesizers countless times in my albums as The Flashbulb, Acidwolf, Human Action Network, and many more aliases. I have used them at gigs such as DEMF, Sonar, and Bangface, and cared for them as if they were my infant children.

That's why I'm selling them. The TB-303 is in excellent condition. It's rare to see one this clean. I'm about to move my studio for a 3rd time in 5 years and simply feel anxious about keeping it in this condition through moves and various applications. I'd rather use my cruddy, old 303 than risk devaluing this one. As my favorite synth, I've also used this thing too much. It's time to pass the torch on, per say.

Enough about my stupid headcase and on to what's for sale.

1 original TB-303. Incredible condition. It's very clean (note that I didn't dust it for the pictures, for the sake of honesty). There are signs of wear around the cutoff and resonance knobs, and the volume knob is ever-so-slightly scratchy as the potentiometer reaches it's 33rd birthday. There's a couple very minor scratches on the back, the original battery door is there, and still latches perfectly. I have tested it on both battery and 9v wall power, and it works just dandy.

1 original TB-606. Unlike the 303, the 606's cosmetic condition reflects its age. It's missing the battery door and a knob, has a couple scratches, and could use a date with a q-tip and some cleaner. Everything is 100% functional, but the volume knob is scratchy, a bit more than the TB-303. Functional on both batteries and wall power.

1 really ugly, but virtually indestructible custom made foam case. I made it myself about 13 years ago out of a tool case and some custom memory foam I ordered. It's ghetto looking, but if you ever feel like running over your TB-303 and TB-606 with a car, this will probably keep you making music with them.

If you're a fan of my music and don't care about the authenticity, I'll sign it. I'll cringe while getting the marker and spend about 10 minutes deciding where to sign it, but your wish is my command. I could also ship it with the batteries if you want the original patterns for S. Kedzie Theme. :)"

Sounds Like Australia on the Fairlight

Published on Nov 17, 2014 NFSA Films

"From the Film Australia Collection. Made by Film Australia 1987. Directed by Jamie Robertson. Kevin Peek, composer and guitarist with Sky, teams up with Mars Lasar, composer and ‘Fairlight’ whiz, to take an unusual and experimental voyage of discovery into the untapped potential of the Australian continent. With cinematography by Jim Frazier, this beautifully crafted film interweaves the sounds of nature and song recordings of rare Australian birds—the Victoria’s Riflebird, Lyrebird and Emu among others—with synthesized music that celebrates the Australian landscape and its wildlife. Superbly photographed, Sounds Like Australia breaks new ground in bringing music and the natural world together. Narrated by Robyn Williams. Developed by Peter Vogel and Kim Ryrie in 1979 the Fairlight CMI went on to be a dominant device in late 70s and early 80s music and film production. It was used by such artists as Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Elton John and Jean Michel Jarre."

Vintage Rare Radel Electronic Dx-soft Saarang Tambura Synth 1970s W/ Case

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This auction is for an extremely rare Radel electronics DX-soft saarang tambura synth sound generator made in Banglore, India. Has a slow tempo for the notes sequence LFO. Each knob adds a note, a 7th chord and bass notes. The knob with all the notes and quarter tones controls the pitch. Very unusual but sounds great ! Has a on board speaker and an 1/8" output. The power had been changed for voltage in the US. Works great , had batterie compartment. Has a cool wood grain finish..."

Update: You can find an mp3 demo in via Loscha here.

"This involves real time performance across many knobs and switches. The pitches remain stable when set up. There are 6 steps on the sequencer, and the tones (of a specific tuning range) are immovable from that sequencer. The pcb image links still work."

Detailed Internal Pictures of Roland MC8 SN 670704

These in via Loscha. You can grab the zip here.

"This Roland MC8 has been in Australia for all of it's life, it seems. We don't know who owned it until the late 90s when it came into the hands of the current owner. The 'Sidecar' is safely in storage (so safe, the owner can't remember exactly where), and, like many people, we don't have the 60 pin Hirose cable, but they are now available online.

I hope everyone enjoys this amazing piece of technology.

The album I had on whilst opening it up and documenting it was Dare, by The Human League. They used an MC8 on this album, programmed by engineer Martin Rushent, who sadly passed away in 2011."

Image names match what you are looking at for each.

Update: additional pics of the MC-8 Interface via Ken Stone added below.
