Sequential Pro 3 Sounds In The Mix + Solo (No Talking)

video upload by MKDVB

"The Sequential Pro 3 is an underrated modern classic. Its greatness sneaks up on me because while the Sequential Pro 3 doesn't seem to be the undisputed in any one thing, it just fits in the mix everywhere. But don't take my word for it -- here you can hear the Sequential Pro 3 in the mix of actual tracks and then soloed. Let me know what you think!"

Experimental Synth Christmas Music: MKDVB Cosmic Christmas

video upload by MKDVB

"Ambient, kosmiche synth Christmas music inspired mainly by old synthesizer New Age holiday music cassette tapes. We wanted to make a Christmas concept album but maybe less cheesy. We tried to make it accessible for friends and family but it kinda turned into weird experimental Christmas music anyway. Probably because we are weird.

Chase Bliss Generation Loss mkii vs Empress Zoia's Shallow Water patch (synth & guitar demo)

video upload by MKDVB

"Shooting out analog warble vibes with the new Chase Bliss Generation Loss mkii vs Empress Zoia's Deep Water patch (a stereo Shallow Water imitation).

Comparing anything vs the Empress Zoia is tricky because it can basically be anything. I've always wanted a stereo Shallow Water so the Deep Water patch on the Zoia intrigued me. And of course, I had to jump all over the Chase Bliss Generation Loss mkii when it was announced.

This video tests these pedals on various synths like the Sequential Prophet Rev 2, Roland Juno 106, and guitar. For this shoot-out, I dropped the signal to proper levels and impedance using Avedis MD7 preamps.

00:00 In Search Of Stereo Shallow Water
01:27 Zoia "Deep Water" + Juno 106

Ambient Synth Jam w/ Chase Bliss Habit, Microcosm, Sequential Pro 3, Prophet X, UAFX pedals

video upload by MKDVB

"Epic ambient synth jam with Chase Bliss Habit pedal and Hologram Microcosm manipulating a single sequence via the Sequential Pro 3 and Prophet X via a mixer send/return channels. Normally I would not list the pedals before the synth but in this case, the Chase Bliss Habit pedal and Microcosm are really doing the heavy lifting in manipulating the sounds from the Prophet X and Pro 3, which is sequencing both synths with the same line. The Chase Bliss Habit really is a Song / Echo Collector capable of creating clouds of ambient synth jam goodness, like you hear here.

You can hear a resemblance of the original sequence around the 6 minute mark.

Generally speaking the Prophet X + Chase Bliss Habit pedal + UAFX pedals are playing the bassline and the Pro 3 + Microcosm the higher lines but using them in send /return with a mixer allows lots of flexibility so throughout the track, I would send different sources and even send the output of one into the other.

Sequential Pro 3 - original sequence, high melody line
Sequential Prophet X (sequenced by Pro 3) - bass line
Chase Bliss Habit pedal - transmogrification of original sequence

00:00 Pro 3 + Microcosm high notes / Prophet X + Habit + UAFX bass
02:45 Microcosm only drone into glitching out Pro 3 and Habit
04:17 Prophet X + Habit fade back in
05:41 Pro3 + Habit + UAFX only, with Prophet X looped in memory
06:00 Original sequence audible
07:00 Habit sequence transmogrification!
08:10 Microcosm shimmer added"

Moog Matriarch + Sequential Pro 3 Generative Ambient Dreamscape

video upload by MKDVB

"I could listen to the Moog Matriarch doing its self generative ambient dreamscape music for hours. This time around, I patched in the Sequential Pro 3 for added textural ambient synth goodness. The small eurorack modular rig was all patched up but between the Matriarch, Pro 3 and Microvolt 3900, the soundscape was full enough.

Moog Matriarch - Generative ambient rhythm line and sequences
Sequential Pro 3 - Lead ambient synth sounds
Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt 3900 - Tinkly high ambient synth sounds
Chase Bliss Meris CXM 1978
Additional plug-in FX in post."

MFW 1.3 (Ambient Techno Synth Jam Moog Subharmonicon, Matriarch, Sequential Pro 3, Prophet X, etc)

video upload by MKDVB

"Moog's Subharmonicon blew me away with how much variation could be wrung out of a basic sequence, especially in combination with cool FX. Even so, I couldn't help myself from adding more elements and before I knew it, a full-blown 'real' track had sprung up.

You can hear the original live version here: [below]

Moog Subharmonicon - original sequence, bass, synth pads
Elektron Monomachine - drums
Sequential Circuits Prophet X - piano lead
Moog Matriarch - synth lead
Sequential Circuits Pro 3 - arp
FX (live jam) - Cooper FX Generation Loss v2, Eventide Rose, Boss RV-500
FX (production) - Chase Bliss / Meris CXM 1978, UAFX Starlight, Astra, Golden"

Summer Rain (collab using Monomachine, Sequential Pro3, Korg Minilogue)

video upload by MKDVB

"Sun Fils: vocals, guitar, Korg Minilogue bass
MKDVB: Sequential Pro 3 (lead, bass, arp), Elektron Monomachine (main synth riff, percussion)

I remember the exact day the lightning wildfires started in CA last summer because my family went for an early morning walk and lightning erupted unexpectedly. I even recorded it on my phone & sampled it in my next single. And somehow I knew things weren't going to be the same anymore.

It's time we gave the Earth its flowers."

"Surrender" (1st Sequential Pro 3 synth jam + Moog Matriarch, Monomachine, Juno 106, Squarp Pyramid)

video upload by MKDVB

"My 1st jam with the Sequential Pro 3 & it may already be my fave monosynth! Live ambient synthpop jam alongside the Moog Matriarch, Elektron Monomachine, Juno 106 (my last track w/ this beauty but it was time to say goodbye). Squarp Pyramid on sequencer. Chase Bliss Audio Blooper, Eventide Eclipse, Boss RV-500 reverb & Valhalla on FX duties.

I called this track Surrender because it's the last one I made with my beloved Juno 106, which I chose to sell despite my emotional attachment to its sound. I've always had a collector's mentality which lends itself to a materialistic mindset in many ways & hanging onto the 106 was more about "owning" than using or playing it. We never truly own anything so I surrendered the 106 & hopefully part of that mindset as well.

Recorded via Cranborne 500R8 & mixed/edited in post."

Making Ambient Music With A Busted Minimoog (& Sequential Prophet X, Chase Bliss CXM 1978, Sax, etc)

video upload by MKDVB

"Moog Minimoog Model D - bass riff
Sequential Prophet X - piano, lead melody, chords, pads, strings
Saxophone
FX: Chase Bliss Audio / Meris CXM 1978, Chase Bliss Wombstone mk2, Mutable Instruments Beads,
Hologram Microcosm, Cooper FX Generation Loss v2, Moog Moogerfooger MF-103, Eventide Rose

Please turn on CC/subtitles for more detailed studio/production notes.

MKDVB - This Is Love

I recently bought an OG Moog MiniMoog Model D that's in dire need of servicing and repair. The synth tech says it needs all the op amps replaced, rebuilt power supply, etc but otherwise in pretty good shape. The oscillator pitch is unstable, especially on OSC 3, so it's always randomly gliding and glitching when I play it. It's going into the shop soon but I decided to make a track with it now anyway.

The Moog is on bass/rhythm track duties because it was too unreliable to play more lead sounds. You'll hear the pitch gliding randomly as the track goes on. Because the Moog was so glitchy, I picked a granular-type piano patch on the Prophet X as well as strings on it during the bridges. I'm also sending my sax through Mutable Instruments Beads to add some improvised duet action.

Thanks for tuning in! --davy"

Ghosts Believe In Us (Live Sequential Pro 3 Synth Jam)

video by

Pro 3 comes in at 1:53.

"I live next to a cemetery - the perfect place to lug the Sequential Pro 3 & record a lead synth jam for a song called "Ghosts Believe In Us." We also recorded some of Matt's guitar parts outside of his work as seen/heard in this video.

Recorded at various locations over 2 years, including the filmed shoots here.
Guest artists: Matt Kretzmann (rhythm guitar), Byron Lynch (lead guitar)
Written by: MKDVB (Davy Bui) w/ Kretzmann, Lynch
Gear used: Synthstrom Deluge, Moog Matriarch, Sequential Pro 3, Korg Microkorg
*******************************************************
Are ghosts real? Do they exist as supernatural entities?

Do they need to be real to haunt us?

We're all haunted by something, aren't we?

Haunted by weight of expectations, past traumas, unlived history, unrealized fears. Haunted by genetics, circumstance or serendipity.

Yes, Ghosts Believe In Us but whether it's our better or our worst ones is entirely up to us.

I hesitate to expound too much about this track because my ghosts are different than yours. Some of the ghosts that inspired this song have since faded; some will never go away. But I know they believe in us - they affect and impact us everyday."
