Modded Arp Avatar Analog

via this auction

via the listing: "). This unit has a great additional modification, (please see picture w/ the 2 knobs) 2 knobs that control Osc #2. The bottom knob controls Osc #2 as an Octave switch (4 one octave increments), while the top knob controls (minor 3rd, major 3rd,4th (slightly flatted) , augmented 4rth, all by turning the knob 1 click at a time), these mods are really handy and very welcomed! The Avatar has some very cool features which include CV input into both Filter and osc #2. I have used my Euro modular to control these, and it can transform this instrument on to a whole new level. (By the way, the osc.'s track quite well from an external cv/gate/trigger keyboard (I was using my Korg Monopoly) as well as my Future Retro Revolution). You can also send external trigger/gate signals into it and also control it's LFO...I tried this using a Korg Monotribe, and it tacked beautifully! Of course since it is very similar to the Odyssey, it has that wonderful Arp ring modulator that can really sing! There are many other really cool things about this unit that can be said, these are but a few of it's highlights..."

Twisted Electrons Brings the Ay3 to Eurorack

Ay3 Eurorack Module Overview Published on Feb 26, 2016 Twisted Electrons

via Twisted Electrons where you'll find addition details and audio demos.

"The AY-3-8912 is a programmable sound generator (PSG) designed by General Instrument at the end of the 1970s.
The AY3 gave voice to the Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Intellivision, AppleII Mockingbird sound card, MSX, Vectrex, ZX Spectrum 128K. Many early 1980s Arcade Games used two AYs; the Gyruss arcade board had five!

The AY3 eurorack module is the perfect solution to capture this piece of history in your rack with its slick & sturdy all-metal design and intuitive controls. The module can be set to 3 clocking modes: normal, Helium (overclocked) and Deep (underclocked), pushing the range of frequencies and sounds to the extreme.

M-Audio Venom Review and Interview with Product Manager Taiho Yamada

A quick note: This review is long. You can jump to sections that interest you vs. reading it straight through if you prefer. This review focuses primarily on the synth engine for one single patch on the Venom. The Venom supports Multi mode with up to four multitimbral parts. Not only can you layer sound programs but you can set global parameters for the set. Be sure to see the Multi mode section of "Tips and Tricks via Taiho Yamada" at the end of this post. Taiho is the Lead Project Manager of the Venom and served as my contact during the review. I want to thank Taiho for his help and enthusiastic generosity. He is a true synthesist and the Venom is his baby.

Synth connections: Taiho previously worked at Alesis on the Andromeda A6. The DSP developer of the Venom worked on Radikal Technologies' Spectralis and the Accelerator. People that contributed to the presets via sound design include Richard Devine, Francis Preve, Mark Ovenden (Avid's AIR Instruments, ProTools VIs), Joerg Huettner (Waldorf, Access, Alesis), and of course Taiho Yamada.

*Don't miss the "Q&A with Taiho" section towards the end of the review. Also keep an eye out for "Taiho's Tips and Tricks" throughout the review in grey. You can find the consolidated list below the Q&A section.

IGNITION 3 Early Progress / Playtesting

video upload by Major OSC

"noodling around on a few of the presets, some of which are in fully realized form, while others need work. playing em for a good length of time, especially with a backbeat, is always a good indicator of where they're at, how they feel to play, how they sound in a mix etc. Figured I'd post a few of these periodically.
MajorOSC.com will be converting to a new brand identity in the coming weeks. Aperture Sound Lab, a join venture between MajorOSC and AlphaCodeSynth, will serve as the new platform for all preset banks to be release on. All MajorOSC preset banks will continue to be made available once the new site is up, and all banks will be labeled and credited as such. Aperture Sound Lab marks a new beginning for both MajorOSC and AlphaCodeSynth, allowing both to combine their sound design talents at various points, while retaining full control of the individual sound design brands and styles."

Ignition 2 for Hydrasynth is HERE

Major OSC

"Live and ready to party.

Front page. https://www.majorosc.com

Ignition 2 has been designed to launch alongside the new firmware released for the Hydrasynth. That means you'll have an entire patch bank to load into your Hydrasynth that already takes full advantage of all the new features.

Expect wild new sequences, thanks to the stepped LFO's to go to to 64 steps. Expect evolving and sophisticated pads and soundscapes that can shift and transform like you've never heard before, thanks to the new Envelope trigger selectors. And get ready to rock! There's a new distortion effect added and it is absolutely sick."

See this post for details on the Hydrasynth 1.5 update.

Roland Jupiter X Press Release VHS - Restored from Archive?

Major OSC

"A Note from the MajorOSC: This is pure satire right down to the Zen Core. But for the record, I love my Jupiter X. This video is to show appreciation to all the Roland customers who've kept them in business, despite the strong opinions constantly voiced from the older customers of many years. Jupiter X would not have become a reality had it not been for those of you who purchased the V-Synth. Jupiter 80, Jupiter 60, Juno G, D E, etc. Thanks to Roland for finally making something that celebrates your past, while offering modern functionality. Also, this is quite possibly the most amazing keybed ever."

Super Synth Battle Bass Battle Extreme Edition !!!

Major OSC

"This is a segment within the 2 hour video special comparing the Novation Summit and UDO Super 6. The original intention was simply to make a feel-good jam session track to demonstrate how they can sound in production. In this example they switch off on bass duty and show off their strengths in their own additional layers. When I thought about a fun way to help visualize the new layers of each synth being added, I remembered some old music games from college, among many others. The result is this spectacle of retro-arcade visuals over feel-good synth riffs and melodies. Enjoy! Also be sure to check out the full video!

Update:

UDO Super6 VS Novation Summit 2 Hour Special Presentation

"What do two FPGA-based Hybrid polysynths have in common? A few important things, but not as much as you'd think. Fortunately the similarities they share are some of the most important things to consider when buying something in this price range. They both sound incredibly good - possibly even the best I've ever heard. They're both similar in price. Yet on paper, the specs appear to be stacked more to one side. This video will show you that specs don't matter when considering the end result; Music. In the end, they're both winners. In fact it was my intention to make the choice even harder if you're considering either of these.

The Summit and Super6 will be put through their paces with real world applications; Productions. Performance. No Science. There's no Oscilloscope, no measurements. Your understanding at the end of this will not come from clinical observation. It will come from listening. They sound different. Amazing, and different. For everyday stuff like leads and bass, they can sound similar for sure. But when you dive deep and exploit their strengths, this is where they will blow your mind. I hope to show you a little bit of both. Which of these fits your style, your taste? If both, start saving. They're worth it. In fact I think they might be the best sounding polysynths to come out in decades.

Leave a comment and share your thoughts. Keep it positive and speak from experience, and not from speculation."

Major OSC

https://www.majorosc.com

"Mercury is a full patch bank in development for the Argon8, containing some of the most expressive and original sounding presets ever heard from MajorOSC.

By a happy mistake, the Big Sky reverb return track was left on enabled in OBS on the first recording. But it wouldn't be right not to share the results!

The re-record without the Big Sky reverb begins at around 11:30"

"Free download at https://www.majorosc.com
3ForAll is a collection of 50 presets for the Sequential Pro 3, made of 3 primary patch types; Bass, Leads, and Sequences. Thanks to the powerful sequencer and multiple filters to choose from, MajorOSC put together a great collection of stylish bass, sequence, and lead presets, designed to inspire you, and exploit the powerful modulation capabilities of the pro 3. Due to MajorOSC's upcoming fall Schedule, a full bank wasn't looking like it was feasible. So while this bank only contains around half the count of a standard patch bank, it's free!! Sounds Good? 1 hour with Sequential Prophet 10 and Zoia - No Dialogue

video by Major OSC

"Prophet 10 - 1 full hour. Non-stop playing.
At various points I'll use summit's reverb, delay, and chorus, but limited enough to allow the dry signal to still be distinguishable. At certain points, where you hear the stereo image become much bigger and wider, that's the Empress Zoia. All of this made possible using sends off a Mackie 16 channel VLZ4, feeding post fader directly to a prism sound titan. Full of deadmau5 and Pryda covers, along with some random improv. Big pads in the last 10 minutes. Enjoy!
