Oscar Peterson's Yamaha CS80?

Probably the smallest pics of a CS80 you will ever see on this site. Via Craigslist Vancover, CA for $10000
"Yamaha CS-80 with service manual , manual and all technical docs.Sounds great, holds tuning well. The Tolex cover has a few scrapes and bruises but the functional areas are pristeen .The unit was never on the road. It was purchased from Oscar Peterson in 1981 when he built his Synclavier system, and owned till 1994 by Barry Warne, a local synth afficiondo and tech.I have owned it since then and have only used it occasionally on studio sessions . It has been kept in studio for the last 16 years. It is a truly unique beast.....Serious offers only, thanks"

"Recently serviced here in Sydney by Steve Jones who knows these synths inside out. Everything has been test including MIDI.

There heart of the OSCar is in its filter section. It has two 12dB/octave filters which can be linked in series for a 24dB/octave slope. The sound this synth can produce is extremely aggressive, which is the hallmark of this great synth.

The arpeggiator on this synth is probably one of the best I've ever played, especially with and adjustable gate control.

Collectively, with its additive synthesis architecture, duphonic capabilities, memory to store 36 programmable patches, 24 custom waveforms and 24 sequences (it has a built in sequencer), this synth provides the user with a myriad of sonic scope and creative opportunities."

Pigtronix Attack Sustain & Electro Harmonix HOG

YouTube via Analogger.
"I used the external trigger input on the Attack Sustain to trigger the decay envelope - which gave me a rhythmic gating effect on my guitar. I fed that into the HOG which I had set to give a sort of organ sound. I used the expression pedal to open and close the filter on the HOG. The result is kind of like what Townshend got when he ran his Lowrey organ thru the VCS3. My expression pedal was taking the place of the VCS3's lfo.

On one midi track on my sequencer I triggered 8th notes on the Virus which was set to a bass drum patch. That was fed into the trigger input on the Attack Sustain - you don't hear that bass drum - it was just used to trigger the envelope on the Attack Sustain. On another midi track I wrote the drum pattern which was in sync with the 8th note trigger sequence.

I had just put new strings on my guitar and had not clipped the ends. The guitar is just out of frame but you'll see my cat Oscar as he climbs up on a table and starts playing with one of the strings. Sometimes Oscar will just lay there and watch me twiddle knobs. He also likes the blinking lights."

"One of the top ten synths ever made, the Oscar is a surprisingly powerful monosynth. Designed by Chris Huggett (of EDP Wasp fame), this has the ability to work as an additive synth as well as a subtractive synth.

It is in good working and cosmetic condition though I can’t verify whether the loading and saving of patches to a cassette works."

Oxford Oscar Vintage Analog Synth in Excellent Condition

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Up for sale is a super rare Oxford Oscar Vintage Analog Synth in near Mint condition. It was just serviced by one of the top analog synth techs in the country so it has years and years of use before needing any attention. Everything works perfectly and sounds incredible. If you're unfamiliar with Oscars, they are notorious for crapping out. Well, this one had all the connectors, solder points, etc. redone and is rock solid. And it's even been converted to 120V so no step down converter is necessary.

Its many functions include programmable harmonic waveforms, patch memory, sequencer, great arpeggiator, duophonic capabilities (play two notes at once) scorching filters allowing for LP, BP, HP, overdrive capabilities. Does great bass, leads, crazy sounds that no other synth can reproduce. This is truly a one of a kind!

It doesn't have the preset sounds loaded b/c I could not find the appropriate midi files, however, from what I recall those sounds aren't anything to write home about. The fun part is creating your own sounds than nobody else has."

"Note that the OSCar originally had internally soldered rechargeable NiCad batteries to retain patch data but these always seem to suffer with lost data and damaged batteries when left switched off for some time. Note here the external box (at the end) housing batteries that may be easily change by the user without causing the loss of patch data."

"For sale is a very rare Oxford Synthesizer Company OSCar. This synth is in excellent near mint shape & fully functional. Cosmetically looks great, bright graphics & easy to read, only a few small scratches. Sides back & bottom are all in excellent shape too. It operates at 220v & comes with a new high quality step up/step down transformer for use worldwide. Latest version with midi, new battery & replaced caps for perfect future operation. This is an amazing monophonic/duophonic synth with very advanced features for the period, including sequencer/arpeggiator, patch memory. You can even change the harmonics of the waveforms. Very warm unique analog sound, unlike anything else & the quality is on par with the greatest of them, equal in capabilities to Minimoogs, Arp, Roland & Korgs. Possibly my favorite vintage monosynth. Check out the pictures below. These are getting harder to find with each passing year, & rarely come up in such nice condition. Don't miss out!"

via the seller: "A rare collectable British classic, this OSCar is in near mint condition and perfect working order.

I have had five OSCars over the years. This was my favorite one. It seems to have some extra overdrive or something. It goes a bit dirtier sonically and has more bite and character.

The sequencer and Arp are fantastic for generating ideas spontaneously.
It has been fully serviced and upgraded by James Walker. It has midi and the latest and latest Operating System Eprom OM2a.
The potentiometers and battery have been replaced, insuring smooth reliable operation.
The only thing to mention cosmetically is there is a small chip on the E2 key (image 5)"
