This reminds me, I was playing Smule's Magic Piano on my iPad last night and decided to see what "Duet" mode was. It brought up a globe of the world that rotated to another player visualized by streams of light for each note played. There was a name "Sofia" on the bottom right of the screen. I was able to play along to this person. I have no idea if "Sofia" heard and saw my name while playing as well.

According to the Smule website: "
Play With the World!

Travel around the Smule Globe to find other Piano users. Select "duet mode" and Magic Piano will create warp holes to connect you with other Pianists.

To stay connected to a single individual, just say so, and play back and forth to your heart's content. Or just listen into other player's duets on the globe."

Wersivoice FM76 & Wersi WV30 Wersivoice Rotor/String Effect Cards

Wersivoice FM76 video upload by hi there its me

"Vintage Chorus/Vibrato from the late 70s
- demonstrated with Ableton's Operator (Sine/Squarewave)
- no effects added
- beautiful to warm up your digital synths
- also works great with guitars, vocals..."

Note the video above is not for the listing below and it actually uses a different card. See the update from Ohm Studio below. There were different versions of the PCBs used by Wersi. Read on for details.

via this auction

"These WV30 rotor/string cards are used and tested from a Wersi Arcus and are suitable for all CD range organs. Not suitable for any DX range organs."

Update: I asked Ohm Studio if this was the same model card used in his custom design. He replied: "It’s not the same pcb I use or used in the Wersivoice FM76 above (the only standalone manufactured model they made). It’s from a more recent design and uses different bucket brigade devices, Panasonic MN3004 instead of the Philips TDA1022 used in the Wersivoice, Bohm and most of the Italian string synths and organs from the late 70s on (the Farfisa effect I built was also designed around those).

Earlier ensemble fx used TCA350 BBDs like the Eminent Solina, Logan string melody, Crumar Stringman etc.

American and Japanese designs tended to use Panasonic (Roland used the MN300x a lot. Like in Juno choruses too).

I never really notice a real difference in sound between those BBDs IF the circuit is more or less similar and based on the Solinas, ie using 3x BBDs modulated by 2 lfos, one at 6hz and one at 0,6hz.

Roland ensemble fx do sound very different than the rest, but IMO it’s not because of the uses of Panasonic BBDs but because of the circuit design that is not based on the classic eminent design.

I do think however that the Bohm Phasing rotor and the Wersivoice are the lushest you can get (except, most probably for Jurgen Haible Triple Chorus, which unfortunately I never had a chance to hear. From what I've read the Bohm was a huge influence in his design).

So to make a long story short: no it’s not the same but I’m quite sure it would sound nice because it looks like it’s the classic design."

The string machine ensemble effect: Dr. Böhm Phasing Rotor 79

video upload by Ohm. Studio

"Quite extensive demonstration of the Dr. Böhm Phasing Rotor effect, a great triple chorus effect from the 70s. Turns anything into a great string machine.
On the video I test it with a Multivox MX-202 (a Roland RS-202 clone), a Crumar Stringman and an cheap old cheazy analog synth.
I built several of these as strandalone units and I currently have 2 to sell if you are interested."

EMS SYNTHI AKS Suitcase Synthesiser/Sequencer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"They don't make them like this any more.....Literally. Perhaps one of the last chances to grab a classic suitcase synth as the few that were made are fairly tightly held, with good reason. The price is fair, considering one in the same condition sold in the UK in May 2014 for $18,5000. This AKS has been in my studio for the past 35 years but the time has come to pass it on. I have just had it checked by ProHarmonics Aust. Everything is in perfect working condition, including the all important sequencer. It is all original except for the internal speakers, which I replaced a year ago as one had started poling, and one new Vernier pot, which I obtained from Robin Wood of EMS. I also bought some more pins and a new 8-way keyboard connector cable from him. The unit comes with a Power cord, Keyboard connecting cord, Manual (reprint), DVD with circuit diagrams and Matrix Pins:- 15 White (2.7k ohm/5%), 13 Red/Orange (2.7k ohm/1%) and one Green (68k ohm, Attenuation Pin ). Those of you who know the Synthi AKS need no blurb but for those who don’t I’ve put down the following info. It features three oscillators and a unique patch system. Instead of patch wires, it uses a patchbay grid wherein the synth components are laid out and signal routing is accomplished by placing small pins into the appropriate slots. The VCS3/Synthi was, in actuality, a modular type synthesizer reduced down to an extremely portable size. Its famous for it’s ability to generate uniquely analog sounds( Dr. Who, Pink Floyd, Eno, Klaus Schultz Pete Townsend, etc ). After ten minutes of warm-up the oscillators become pretty stable. There's a Noise Generator, two Input Amplifiers, one Ring Modulator, one Voltage Controlled Low Pass Filter (VCF), one Trapezoid Envelope Generator, a Joy-Stick Controller, a Voltage Controlled Spring Reverb unit, two Stereo Output Amplifiers and a 256-step on-board monophonic digital sequencer and a 30-note touchplate keyboard. I will ship the unit inside a pelican type case and then packing for total security. Buyer is responsible for any customs or import duty."

Rare birds: Elka Wilgamat 1 / analog drum machine and accompaniment unit

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"Here is another "one man band" from the 70s I just serviced. Many dead CMOS chipsets, lots of bad connections on the motherboard daughterboards sockets (broken pins, bad solder joint) and a dying voltage regulator, among other things. Custom built keyboard to trigger the accompaniment unit, with jack socket input for pedal that introduce drum breaks. A different flavor than the Welson Ritmo I recently demoed but definitely in the same mood.
Recorded through a Teisco 120 to add some reverb."

This appears to be the first post to feature the Elka Wilgamat 1. Note the "1" on the right. The Elka Wilgamat minus the "1" has been featured on the site before in previous posts here. Which came first? :) You can find additional Elka Wilgamat models here.

Update: according to Ohm Studio: "Electronics are exactly the same. I think this one is later and was an add for some Elka organ, maybe Concorde or something. The black color is I think factory since it’s all over the case even inside. It’s clearly the same fake wood as the original but painted black, probably to better match the organ aesthetics. I definitely remember seeing auctions with Elka organ and this wilgamat unit bundle. Also the complete wilgamat electronics and controls are fitted in some Elka organ, spinet and combo. Don’t remember which model but I did scavenged à spinet one to retrieve all the pcbs."

The string machine ensemble effect: Dr. Böhm Phasing Rotor VS Wersi Wersivoice WV7

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Ohm. Studio

"The Wersi in the video is for sale. [listed on eBay here]

Here is a comparison between two very similar BBD triple choruses, AKA ensemble effect: The Dr. Böhm Phasing Rotor 79 (which I demoed extensively in a previous video with a Multivox MX-202, a Crumar Stringman and a Roland Jupiter 4) and the Wersivoice WV7. The Böhm has some more variations but the chorus sound (ie ensemble effect) is very similar. Circuit are almost 100% identical. I also own a Wersi Wersivoice FM76 which is the updated and standalone version of the Wersi WV7 and sound even closer to the Böhm.

I used a Welson Keyboard Orchestra to demo the two units. I made another video with the Wersivoice alone with a Sequential prophet 6 in order to show how easily you can turn any synthesizer into a string machine with these units."

via this auction

"Vintage analog triple chorus effect unit, based on 3x Philips TDA1022 Bucket Brigade Device chipset and of classic ARP Eminent Solina design. Turns anything into a great sounding string machine.

It offers Vibrato (slow and fast) and Chorus (the ensemble effect) with 3 variations of depth (« weak » and « strong » switch and both together).

It is almost the same circuit as the Dr. Böhm Phasing Rotor I also built, with less variations. But the ensemble effect does sound identical."

ELEX K2 / Italian string and piano synthesiser

video upload by Ohm.Studio

This appears to be the first demo of one posted on the site. You can find pics of a silver model previosly posted here.

"Here is a quick demo of a quite rare Elex K2 string machine I serviced. It was also branded as the Hohner String Orchestra 2.
From what I reckoned it is very similar in sound and design to the Elka Rhapsody 610.
You get splitable left and right part with Piano / Harpsichord / Cello / Violin preset assignable on either part, each wich its dedicated on/off switch and volume fader, individual sustain faders for both Cello and Violin. Sustain on piano and harpsichord is done by a foot pedal.
You further get a bass sound on the left part of the keyboard, and 3 different combination modes:
- full keyboard: right hand presets are use for the whole keyboard
- split keyboard: left and right hand have their own sounds
- ensemble: this one is interesting and I start the video with that one. You get all the 4 octaves of the strings sounds on the left hand, and only piano/harpsichord on the right one. It sounds massive and you can still mix the 4 string footages.
All in all a very nice string machine.

Recorded straight to the soundcard with no fx or treatment."

Elka Wilgamat

Ohm. Studio

"Simple demo of the unit I’m selling to show it’s present working condition.

Basically drum machine and bass section work fine but accompaniment part is not. Sometimes it produces sound, sometimes not and most of the time it makes bass section do strange things when activated."

Teisco Teischord C 60s japanese combo organ

video upload by Ohm.Studio

This appears to be the first demo of one featured on the site. You can find pics of one previously posted here.

"Quick demo of a serviced Teisco (also sold by Wem Watkins) Teischord C transistor organ.
Very nice looking and sounding. Very compact and lightweight.
A different taste than the italian ones (Farfisa Compact, Elka Panther, Gem Jumbo etc) or the Vox Continental. Quite a number of footages and timbres for such a small organ, ranging form 16" to 4". Vibrato with variable speed and 2 depth settings.
There further is a 'fullband' tab which is kind of all footage preset but not exactly and a "higher/forte" switch that lowers the volume of the 2 16" tabs to get more high end presence.

Recorded straight to the soundcard with no fx or treatment. This one is begging for a vintage tube amp in order to shine !"

Custom made Farfisa Partner 415 drum machine demo (dry & with Yamaha E0505 delay)

video upload by Ohm. Studio

"Here is a demo of a one-of-a-kind drum machine. It"s a ryhtm unit ripped of an 70s farfisa spinet organ and built in a custom case (keeping up with the original look). Classic analog drum sounds like the ones you get out of the many boxes of that area (Roland TR77, Ace Tone FR-1 FR-2 FR-8, Hammond Auto Vari etc etc)
Demo recorded first dry and with added delay from a Yamaha BBD delay unit. No further treatment. Unit is for sale (190 euros) if you're interested."

Hillwood HR-30 analog rhythm machine 2022/11

video upload by Ohm.Studio

"Quick demo of a recently serviced Hillwood HR30 drum machine. Recorded through a custom built spring reverb. No other treatment or editing.

Fully analog sounds in the like of the Ace Tone FR1 / FR2, Roland TR33 / TR66 and other units of the 70s."

Note this appears to be the first post to feature the Hillwood HR-30.

Numerology 4 -- sequence + modulate

Numerology 4 -- sequence + modulate from Five12 on Vimeo.

"This release video for Numerology 4.0 features several demo tracks included with the download."

"Nine Things To Know About Numerology 4....

1. Numerology is a Step Sequencer.

At it's core, Numerology is all about building musical phrases by starting with simple patterns of repeating notes, and then manipulating the pattern with a set of easily applied transformations. Pattern rate, length, direction, inversion, start & end points, skipped steps, probabilistic jumps and mutes, these can all be triggered at anytime, and are all setup to be usable while performing.

2. Numerology is many Step Sequencers.

Overpriced Pair of 1970s Urei 565T "Little Dipper" Filter Set

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This listing is for a pair of gold-trimmed Urei 565T Filter Sets in a black Tolex case (or without). These look incredible. The seller we bought them from wrote:

The 565T offers precise notching and peaking of very narrow frequency bands. The major application is to remove unwanted noises from recordings. Used extensively by the movie industry. It can also be used to create flanging, phasing and other unusual effects.

The 565T has an output transformer that can send a balanced signal to a 600 ohm load. The input level can be switched up 20db and the input impedence can be set between 600 and 10K ohms. This item came out of temperature controled editing suite. The suite had preventative maintenance done quarterly.

Having these will make you feel better in your studio, and feel better about your studio.

You don’t need to worry about the rear connections. You don’t need to make pigtails. You have an in and an out right on the front of the unit, and it takes balanced TRS or unbalanced TS.

What will you use it for? A notch filter, feedback murderer? Lowpass filtration on the 2bus for performative transitions? Nasal peaks? Dub stuff? Purist period-correct cinematic effects? Reductive sonic biopsies, additive implants?

MOJO MOJO."

Ohm Force Symptohm:Melohman Performer Edition Free

Free on Ohm Force

"This 'Performer Edition' is a simplified version of our Symptohm:Melohman powersynth, especially made for live use - but being also handy at the studio. The core of the synth, its oscillators and all the filters are there: it's the same audio engine of the 'normal' version. The only difference is that they're all already programmed/fixed for each one of the (up to 1200!) patches from Symptohm's sound library, the result being a simple and straight forward interface."

The Rhizome Now Available

YouTube via Feeltune

"The Rhizome: the groove machine with and for VST has just been released.

The dream to combine the power of a PC and the ergonomic of a real musical instrument is becoming reality.

Feeltune announces the release of the Rhizome; one of the highlights of the MusikMesse when it was first presented last March. Many sites and magazines rated it best of the 2010 trade show! The Rhizome is the future of groove machines.

What are the differences with the competition? The Rhizome is a hybrid in which you install virtual instruments and effects in a VST/VSTi format (For Pc). No more limitations in terms of sounds and effects; with the Rhizome you choose the style of sound and instruments you want to play. Once downloaded you can mix your plug-in with the mixing desk; create your sequences, patterns and tracks with the multi modes and multi tracks sequencer which is the brain working behind the scene.

What are the differences with the other hybrids already on the market? The Rhizome is not just a keyboard with a Pc or a Pc Rack; it is a real musical instrument which has been designed for the pleasure to play and compose music and is equipped with software running an innovative interface with numerous displays and controllers.

The Rhizome is a real-time instrument: programming, recording, sampling, adding instruments and effects, tuning; all you do is live! There is no interruption when you play on stage or record in a studio. The objective: to free up your inspiration and creativity.

The development of the Rhizome took several years of R&D; 50 engineers and the validation of around 10 user groups. Today the Rhizome is an aggregate of the best technology and know-how.

For the Audio it is RME that does the job; it has been chosen because of its stability and sound quality which is recognized by everybody.

For the display; forget the small monochrome displays; the Rhizome offers 4 large displays (24 bit colors)

For the controllers; the Rhizome has 102 controllers in which you find 16 dynamic pads and 32 endless knobs

You get the Windows XPE which is a version of Windows XP Pro that has been redesigned and compiled especially for Feeltune. It offers a better stability and a total compatibility with VSTs.

For the effects and instruments; some of them have been developed by Ohm Force, well know key player of the market.

A Design and solid ergonomic; a size and weight that allows bringing the Rhizome with you as hand luggage when you travel by plane.

For its embedded system; you get power and reliability: Intel processor and mother board, server AC, silent fans.

Software, proprietary electronic card and box: build, assemblage and control in France.

Connections: The several in/out allow you to connect and use screens, mousse, midi controllers; hard disk and/or additional audio card.

Communication: The Rhizome is the first instrument to totally implement CopperLan; a new protocol that above the Midi transcription really revolutionize the communication between audio-video machines.
