Can one single synth patch really inspire us to create?

video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds

Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave videos

"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk

Decided to quickly put together a synthwave styled track , based on Patch 100 from 3rd Wave - Dynamica Volume 1 - Patch Name 'SM Love the Wave'

Only spent a few hours on this tonight, so far from a completed masterpiece, mainly just to let folks see that inspiration or ideas CAN come from one patch that may inspire you, or trigger something that leads you to create something special!

To accompany the patch - I added a few other custom sounds, from

1 - OB6 filtered Sweep Pad on left (Patch O23 - SM Big Sky Me from Venture Vol.1)
2 - Take 5 - sizzle pad on right ( Patch D01 - SM Film Poly from Ethereal Vol.1)
3 - Prophet 6 - Synced Lead (Patch006 - SM Daft Sync from Divinity Vol.1 - )
4 - Prophet 6 - Main Lead (Patch048 - SM Smooth Lead - from Divinity Vol.1)
5 - UB-Xa Sub When Main Lead Comes in - (patch 58 - SM Reese Bass from Sonorous Vol.2)
6 - UDO Super-6 - Bell like arp (PatchB3 - SM Check That Pulse from Virtuality Vol.1)
7 - Drums are LM1

Enjoy

Prophet Rev2 With Strymon Big Sky & Meris Mercury 7 | AMBIENT PADS

video upload by Le Code

"The prophet Rev2 is a powerful pad machine: with a few chords, I play with the filter. Two reverbs are added: the Strymon Big Sky is set to a shimmer-type preset, while the Meris Mercury 7 adds spatial reverb to the whole, and gives fullness to this ambient jam.

"The Prophet Rev2 is still amazing at producing beautiful ambient pads, and if you add the Mercury 7 pedal from Meris, you literally fly into space! 🪐
On this video, I show you Prophet Rev2 ambient pads with Meris Mercury 7 pedal.

Nu // Ambient 5 (Prophet 6, Prophet 12, Minitaur, Mono Lancet '15, Keystep Pro)

video upload by Mai

"This version of Nu is on the album Beta, released 8th December 2023: https://wormholeworld.bandcamp.com/al...

Besides deciding on a scale and having an idea of the notes to play for each instrument, this was improvised. It was also unquantized and played in free time. I switched each sequence into 'Walk' mode, which is semi-random and adds an element of chance in terms of how the 4 sequences will interact."

Sequential Prophet 5/10: a Musical Exploration Part 2

video upload by Synth Universe

"Part 2 continues my musical exploration of sounds and timbres on this classic analog synth using custom-created patches. All the sounds you hear in this video were created by me on the Prophet 10 and include pads, keys, bass, poly synth, leads, sines, chimes, strings and FX.

I wanted to retain the raw sound, so in the making of this video no chorus, modulation or thickening effects were used (software or hardware). Note that the Prophet 5/10 has no internal effects. The only effects used were reverb (mainly the Valhalla Vintage Verb plugin) or delay (Logic native delay plugin). No EQ was used to enhance either the low end or the high end.

The Prophet 5/10 has a single mono audio output, so to create a stereo image I used old-school layering in my DAW. When I recorded each audio take, I also captured MIDI data and used this to record new tracks of the original take. Using the Vintage knob on the Prophet set at 3 means that each MIDI take has subtle differences in pitch, envelopes and filter. Panning and slight detuning of the tracks creates, to my ears, a nice rich stereo image and retains the character of the sound.

*If you own a Prophet 5 rev 4 or Prophet 10, all the sounds featured in this video are now available to purchase as part of the Synth Universe Prophet 5/10 rev 4 Soundbank. Follow the link below where you can also watch video demos of all 80 patches.

Sequential Prophet 5/10 rev 4 | Sound Bank Demos

video uploads by Synth Universe

"In this video I play original sounds created for the Prophet 5/10 rev 4 synthesizer. I demo patches 1 - 20 from the Synth Universe Prophet 5/10 rev 4 Sound bank: a bank of 80 patches containing a wide range of pads, strings, brass, poly synths, keys, bass, leads, tuned percussion and sines.

Each patch is demonstrated first raw in mono, as output straight from the synth. For the majority of the patches I then repeat the demo but with stereo and reverb or delay applied, so you can hear the sounds more like they would be in a musical context. Please refer to the other three videos for demos of sounds 21 - 80. The time stamps below mean you can easily access specific sounds in this video and compare MONO with STEREO.

OP-X PRO-3 vs. Oberheim OB-X | Jupiter-8 | Prophet-5

video upload by SonicProjects

"SonicProjects OP-X PRO-3 comparison to Oberheim OB-X as well as Jupiter-8 and Prophet-5. Includes A:B tweaking as well as comparing cloned presets.

Setup:
Upper keyboard: Oberheim OB-X Rev.2 vintage built in 1980 equipped with 6 voices. The stereo output goes directly to input 1 and 2 of an RME Fireface UC which has very clean and neutral sounding converters. Signal directly recorded to disk.

Lower keyboard: E-MU Xboard 61 MIDI keyboard attached via USB to a MacBook Pro M1 2020 with macOS Ventura 13.4. The MIDI signal is driving OP-X PRO-3 which is hosted in Logic Pro. The stereo output of OP-X PRO-3 is directly recorded to disk.

Blue skin installed.

Parts:
00:00 A:B tweaking
10:51 Comparing presets
23:35 Jupiter-8
29:05 Prophet-5

Since no Jupiter-8 and and Prophet-5 were available this part of the comparison uses the excellent original factory presets recordings of Synthmania:

Prophet 5/10 Rev 4 Round Robin Allocation Mode

video upload by Analog Prophet

"Changing Voice Allocation Mode at the Prophet 5/10 rev 4.

Normally the voice allocation mode is set to normal. That is every 1st note in a chord one hit the first voice is triggered, every second note the 2nd voice is triggered etc. That means the same voices are used all the time in a similar way. But different voices differs slightly.

There is a voice allocation mode (from firmware 2.0) that circulate the voices every time a key is hit: Round Robin Mode.
That gives small nice variations every time a key is triggered and makes the P5/10 rev 4 soaring in a nice way.

Enable Round Robin Voice Allocation Mode:
1. Hold down BANK and press GLOBALS button once to activate Page 3 of the Globals menu

2. Press program selection button 2

3. Use the BANKS and TENS buttons (DECREMENT/INCREMENT) to set voice allocation mode to rr

4. When finished, press the GLOBALS button once to exit."

Korg Polysix (1981)

video upload by Ticco Ross

"Korg PolySix Custom White with Reverse Keys:

The Korg Polysix is a vintage analog polyphonic synthesizer that was first introduced in 1981.

Korg developed the Polysix with an eye on the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, trying to provide some of the features found on the more expensive synth in a compact, reliable and much cheaper design.

With one oscillator per voice and six voices, SSM2044 4-pole voltage-controlled filters, unique Korg VCO design, awesome envelopes and analog effects, the Polysix sounds fantastic.

The white panel of this Polysix was made by synthronics.de and the inverted keys come from a pair of Korg Poly 800, although the origin of those original Korg grey knobs remains a mystery to me."

Kawai K1 & Yamaha FB-01 Sample Pack for Prophet X and SF2

video upload by Espen Kraft

"A new patch bank for the Prophet X. Also available in the SF2 format for Logic and the Tal Sampler.
50 multi-samples from the Kawai K1 and Yamaha FB-01. Great sounds to add texture and depth to your music and productions.

The samples were originally meant for MY Prophet X, for my live needs. A way of having all my vintage synths in one keyboard when doing live gigs doing MY own songs as faithful as possible to my albums.
Every sample in here has been recorded by me personally and sounds exactly how I want them to sound. They've all been recorded through the Yamaha DMP7 digital mixer for extra mojo.
Many of the samples are velocity layered multi samples, some upwards of 30-50 samples per set.
Be aware that this pack is the multi-samples only.
IMPORTANT info for Prophet X users: This sample user add-on pack is imported like this : px/u01

If you want to purchase this bank, please send me an email and I'll give you the download details.
Please specify if you want the Prophet X or SF2 bank. They cost the same.

My CONTACT email address is this: espenkraft69@gmail.com
Price is $15 USD or €15 Euros if that's your preferred currency. PayPal only. * The above email is NOT the one to use for payment. That will be given upon ordering.

If you haven't already bought my big epic Prophet X sample- and patch bank from before, I'll be happy to offer both that AND this new one in a bundled price of $40 USD (or €40 Euros) combined. Let me know in the email."

Future Retro Vectra Synthesizer Demos

video uploads by artoftravelogue

Playlist:

1. Future Retro Vectra Synthesizer: choir sound
Here is a demonstration of a male choir patch that I made on the Future Retro Vectra synthesizer. Even though this synth engine is normally layering the 4 voices (oscillator pairs with separate envelopes) as a single voice, it also has a nice paraphonic mode where you can play 4 voices simultaneously through the single filter. I assigned the xy joystick to the vibrato rate.
2. Future Retro Vectra Paraphonic trick
One thing about paraphonic synthesizer voices, is that the notes are retriggered through the filter and final VCA. This can be very useful in a patch or sound like this, where some of the voices are still playing the last chord until cycling through all 4 voices. The XY joystick in this patch changes a minor chord to a major chord by raising the third a half step. If the joystick is in the middle between the major and minor third, then you only play the blues with this patch, just kidding.
3. Future Retro Vectra Synthesizer: beat and sequencer example
The Vectra has a unique feature where the envelopes can be delayed for each of the 4 voices. By creating drum sounds then using this delay to create rhythms and sequencing a simple pattern using this drum loop, you can get some interesting rhythms. The mix joystick lets you control the balance between the drum sounds. the XY joystick is changing the delay on 2 of the voices.
4. Future Retro Vectra Synthesizer: Cello sound example
The Future Retro Vectra Synthesizer has a powerful voice architecture. Not only does it allow a similar wave blending engine like the famous Prophet VS or the ModWave, but it also has 4 joysticks to mix, filter, and adjust the sound as you are playing it. The XY joystick is assigned to vibrato rates and the aftertouch is assigned to the vibrato amount.
