Sequential Prophet-6 Desktop Unboxing & First Run Through

New Gear Acquisition: Prophet-6 Desktop Unboxing

video upload by Paul Synths/Drums

"I am now the privileged owner of a Sequential Prophet-6. This was the synthesizer I knew I'd pull the trigger on if I ever downsized my keyboard arsenal.

One of Dave Smith's flagship synthesizers, the Prophet-6 takes players back to the days of the iconic Prophet-5 synth, which defined the 80s.

This new synth is an absolute beast. 2 VCO's, 4-pole low pass filter, 64 step sequencer, and a multitude of amazing built in effects.

And of course, 6 voices of pure, analog power. I love it. Easy to use interface, just enough knobs and buttons where it's not too overwhelming, and the sound... Every 70s and 80s horror and sci movie ever made. This might be the last synthesizer I ever buy. It's definitely a forever instrument and I assure you, Lots of videos to come..."

Tascam 388 Session: Prophet 10, MPC X, Yamaha RX11, Line6 HX Stomp XL

video upload by Retrothusiast

"Join me in this exciting recording session featuring the Tascam 388, a classic multitrack recorder that's stood the test of time. Starting with a groovy drum beat crafted on the Yamaha RX11, I sequenced the rhythm alongside a deep, punchy bassline from the Prophet 10 using the powerful MPC X. From there, I tracked everything in stereo on the Tascam 388, laying down the foundation for an inspiring retro music production. Adding to the mix, I recorded two guitar tracks through the versatile Line6 HX Stomp XL, and wrapped it up with a live synth performance on the Prophet 10, bringing the session to life.

This video showcases the seamless workflow and unique sonic character of these iconic pieces of gear. You'll hear the raw, unprocessed sound of the Tascam 388, letting you experience its warm analog tone. Whether you're a fan of vintage music equipment or curious about retro recording techniques, this session highlights how these classic tools—Tascam 388, Prophet 10, MPC X, Yamaha RX11, and Line6 HX Stomp XL—come together to create something timeless"

Prophet Rev 2

video uploads by Daniel Mana - sound designer & composer

Playlist:
1. The Prophet Rev2 makes me dream
I love spending hours just tweaking the knobs of the Rev2, the Prophet Rev2 makes me dream and it takes me to unexplored territories. As I said in a previous videos it's not an "easy" synthesizer, it takes time to find the sound you are looking for but it's capable of anything really.
2. How does the Prophet Rev2 filter sound? I love it!
How is that possible? do you think it spunds bad? How does the Prophet Rev2 filter sound? I love it! it's great! please let me know in the comments.
3. Prophet Rev 2 + Moog Grandmother arpeggio on a sunday morning
The Sequential Prophet rev2 and the Moog Grandmother are a perfect combo, the first one is a polyphonic synthesizer, the second is a dream monophonic semimodular synth.
This recording was part of my usual sunday morning making music routine, after playing a little bit with the Sequential Rev 2 and its modulation I came up with this patch that I really liked and it sounded great as a layer for the Grandomother arpeggios running over it. I play with the filter and with the envelopes on the grandmother and towards the add I add the extra modulation to the vcf from the lfo. Pretty happy the way it came out.
4. Sequential Prophet rev2 // a unique sounding synthesizer [previously posted here]
The Sequential Prophet rev2 is a unique sounding synthesizer, I have read so many things about it, a lot of people say it doesn't good, some say it's the best synth ever, well....I love it!
Does it sound like a Prophet 5? No
Does it sound like a Prophet? Absolutely yes
Is it better or worse than a Prophet 5? it's different, it has its own sounds and I really like it, you can dial in any sound really, and it does sound big!
There is one thing though that I've read and I do agree with, it's not an "easy" synth, and by easy I mean that it does take a little bit longer in order to dial in a certain sound that you are looking for.
It offers infinite possibilities of modulation, maybe too many, but it's very easy to use and intuitive.
The possibilty to split the keyboard or to stack two layers of sounds makes it a beast!

PWM Mantis // It's not a synth.. it's a time machine // Review and Demo

video upload by Starsky Carr

"PWM's Mantis has done it again, given us a very unique and characterful synth full of vibe. Its a mono/duo/quad hybrid, with digital oscillators (16 in total), 2 analog filters and a whole host of really interesting bits and pieces.

Following in the Malevolent's footsteps it continues PWMs affordable ethos, while hammering home a tonne of vintage tones. Thenraw sound of this is gorgeous and they've not smoothed the rough edges too much which gives us some Microwave, Prophet VS, PPG digital sheen."

Rare Gleeman Pentaphonic

"Very Rare.

Serviced by Vintage Synth & Co in Paris.

Everything works perfectly.

The Pentaphonic is a five-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer released in 1982. It was designed by brothers Al and Bob Gleeman and featured three DCOs for a stable and juicy analog sound. The Pentaphonic was in the running against such classics as the Sequential Prophet-5, Moog Minimoog and Polymoog, and the Oberheim 4-Voice. But the Gleeman Pentaphonic (and the Pentaphonic Clear) are extremely rare! Only about 30 Pentaphonics and 20 Pentaphonic Clears were ever made."

"The Arturia Origin desktop Synth is literally a one of a kind very rare synth. What follows are answers to these iterations and explanations to the complexities and idiosyncrasies of the Origin.

1. In building the synthesizer, Arturia put virtually all their synthesizer and TAE (true analog emulation) technology, making it into both many and one instrument. The Origin not only gives you the latest sounds and sequences, it gives you powerful, easy to use tools for playing, combining, and controlling these dynamic sounds/sequences. All in real time, due to the amazing interface.

Korg Wavestate Vangelis Vintage Analog Presets. Sound Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Analog Era is a collection of 50 presets for the Korg Wavestate synthesizer, featuring 9 arpeggios, 6 brasses, 6 basses, 6 keys, 9 leads, 5 pads, 2 sequences, and 7 strings.
đŸ“Œ This sound bank draws inspiration from the iconic sound of Vangelis, the legendary composer behind numerous film soundtracks, most notably Blade Runner. Vangelis' signature style is also prominent in his works from the 1970s, such as Spiral, Albedo 0.39, Earth, and others.

📬 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/wave...

đŸ“» This sound was heavily shaped by the pre-digital era, where electronic music relied on analog synthesizers like the Moog Minimoog, ARP Odyssey, Yamaha CS series, Roland Jupiter series, Korg MS-20, Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, and more. Unlike the crystal-clear precision of digital sounds, analog is characterized by warmth, detuning, and subtle distortion, creating a rich texture.
I aimed to recreate the essence of this era and sound in the "Analog Era" soundset.

📾 Analog sound remains highly relevant today and is in great demand across various musical styles. Many sound designers strive to emulate it using modern instruments and plugins because it evokes strong nostalgia and emotional connections, taking listeners back to their childhoods, retro music, and classic films.

đŸŽč Although the Korg Wavestate is a digital synthesizer, it offers a wide range of features that allow for an accurate emulation of vintage analog sounds. It includes an extensive collection of waveforms and timbres, analog filter emulations, and a variety of effects. I worked to maximize these capabilities to craft the "Analog Era" soundset.

🧿 These performances are perfect for genres such as Synthwave, Retrowave, Synth-Pop, Ambient, New Age, Cinematic, Electronica, Pop, Techno, Industrial, Psytrance, Garage, Progressive, House, Experimental, Breaks, and Drum and Bass. They also work well for movie soundtracks, games, apps, digital art, sound art live performances, and VR landscapes, providing the retro atmosphere that many projects require.

Introducing the KORG multi/poly Synthesizer

video upload by Korg

Priced at $899.99 USD. Check with dealers on the right for availability.

"The KORG multi/poly synthesizer, inspired by the legendary Mono/Poly, blends the rich, classic warmth of analog sound with cutting-edge digital flexibility. Powered by KORG's next-generation analog modeling technology, it offers a unique mix-and-match multi-synthesis approach, allowing you to combine parameters from classic analog synths like oscillators, filters, envelopes, and portamentos, providing endless creative possibilities for sound designers and musicians alike.

Its Virtual Voice Cards recreate the nuanced characteristics of analog synths, such as Pitch Drift, while advanced modulation options like Layer Rotate (round-robin with Programs), Kaoss Physics (pad gestures for modulation), and Motion Sequencing 2.0 (complex per-voice motion with multi-lanes) enable deep, immersive sound design. Building on the legacy of the Mono/Poly, the multi/poly delivers big, dynamic sounds with modular-derived experimental features, offering an unmatched sound experience that bridges the best of vintage and modern synthesis, pushing the boundaries of sonic exploration.

Introducing the Sequential Prophet-10 Special Edition

Press release follows:

San Francisco, CA – [October, 22nd, 2024] – As part of the 50 Years of Sequential celebration, the renowned synthesizer company proudly announces the launch of the Prophet-10 Special Edition, a tribute to half a century of groundbreaking innovation in analog synthesis. This exclusive edition, with only 150 made, features exquisite lacewood panels that make each instrument a unique masterpiece.

The All-Natural Elegance of Lacewood
While the electronics are identical to the existing Prophet-10 Rev4, the Special Edition is distinguished by its stunning lacewood panels. Sourced from the lush forests of South America, lacewood is celebrated for its intricate grain patterns that create beautiful and varied designs. This exceptional wood not only enhances the visual allure of the Prophet-10 but also honors the long-held tradition of using fine woods in classic analog instruments.

A Collector's Dream
With only 150 in existence, the Prophet-10 Special Edition is a rare opportunity for discerning collectors. Each synthesizer comes with a certificate of authenticity, recording its specific serial number, and an embroidered dust cover, ensuring that this piece of musical history is preserved in pristine condition for decades to come.

The Return of a Legend
The Prophet-10 is Dave Smith’s ten-voice version of the analog poly synth that revolutionized the music world. Known for its warm, organic, and dynamic sound, the Prophet-10 combines all three revisions of the legendary Prophet-5 synth — Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3 — with a Rev switch that allows users to choose between the two distinct filter designs. The Prophet-10 Special Edition also includes the Vintage knob to fine tune instrument’s character, Poly Mod for wide timbral flexibility, and velocity sensitivity and aftertouch for new levels of expression beyond the 1970s Prophets, making it as versatile as it is powerful.

Experience the Prophet-10 Special Edition
Sequential invites professional musicians, collectors, and dedicated synth enthusiasts to experience the Prophet-10 Special Edition. This deeply organic lacewood edition is more than an instrument; it's a piece of history, a testament to Sequential's unwavering commitment to creating inspiring instruments for generations of artists.

Mod FM D Gets a Proper Desktop Case

You might remember the stand alone eurorack desktop version with wood side panels previously posted here.

via Jomox:

"A year ago we released the Mod FM as a Eurorack module.

Now the almost identical product is being released as a desktop device with its own power supply, MIDI, standard 6.3mm balanced outputs and analog volume control.

The Mod FM D even has an analog side chain stereo input, via which external signals can be fed into the effects of the Mod FM D and mixed with the synth.

The ratio of synth+input/effect can also be continuously adjusted analog using a potentiometer.

The Mod FM D is a complete 8-voice FM synthesizer in desktop format that promises enormously powerful sounds out-of-the-box without sacrificing the usual CV modulation options.

It has 4 operators and 2 LFOs/VCOs per voice. In addition, it has 2 analog filters and analog VCAs per voice, which give the Mod FM D analog depth and warmth, although the FM engine is of course digital.

Each voice has its own CV/Gate inputs and an individual output. There is a stereo mix-out on which the even and odd voices are distributed, and on which internal effects such as delay and reverb can be mixed.

In addition to the CV/Gate control, the Mod FM D has MIDI In and Out and a USB C connection that also processes MIDI.

This allows you to create extremely good and metallic-sounding FM sounds, crisp basses, but also soft and deep-sounding analog sounds and all kinds of crazy stuff without much effort.

In addition, the Mod FM D also offers numerous external CV modulations, for example to modulate each operator individually or to control the FM envelopes.

The Mod FM D is also fully multi-timbral, i.e. each voice can have its own sound in Multi Mode, which is also saved as such in the Multi Set. This brings us to the biggest advantage of the hybrid approach:

Analog and modular can become a trap with complex sounds, and FM is complex per se, because you can never get the same great sound from before exactly the same way. The ability to save helps here.

The sections in detail:

Prophet X - Overwrite factory memory | Sysex patch edit tutorial

video upload by Espen Kraft

"If you receive a bunch of patches (both individual files or whole banks) for your Prophet X, you might not want to have these saved at the same locations they come in.
If you receive a patch that was saved in Bank U2 Patch 90, this will go into THAT memory location on your Prophet X as well, when you transfer it. Unfortunately you can't put it in another memory location when you transfer it. You can of course save it to some place else after you've transferred it to Patch 90 (this example), but only to the 4 different U-banks.
UNLESS.... you edit the sysex file itself before transferring it to your own PX. By doing so you can set it to go exactly where you want. You can even overwrite the factory patches if you want. All banks and patches U1-U4, F1-F4 and A1-A4 can be overwritten in the sysex transfer.

I'm fully aware there exists several library apps and software for the Prophet X that will help you do this. These costs money. My method is totally free.

In this video I'm using a free binary decoder called HdX to load, inspect, edit and save a sysex file. I'm using Bome SendSX to transfer the edited sysex file from my computer to my PX.
Both these programs are free.
You can certainly edit the sysex file from within the transfer program itself as well."
