"I was able to finally recreate the bass line of one of my favorite Deep House tracks! I failed a bunch of times until I finally found a new setting that I've never understood before which is called Portamento legato as well as fixed rate instead of fixed time. So trying to get a deeper understanding of these, I dove in, and now I want to share what I found with you! The track that inspired me is Sonic Vision by DaRand Land. Go check it out down below!

"Today we explore sound design on one of my all time favorite synthesizers, the Deckard's Dream by Black Corporation. One patch I made prior to hitting record but we'll design two synth patches from scratch together. We'll explore some beginner synth techniques like applying filter envelopes, adding different attack times to layers to have the patch move and sound different over time, as well as running going a little deeper and playing with different tunings and layering the synth with itself in the way it was built. I'll also run the synthesizer through the R1 Reverb Pedal by Walrus Audio to push it over the top and create that cinematic movie score feel. I can't help it..

I couldn't get it any louder without it sounding squashed and awful...
If you're listening on proper speakers, give that volume knob a little boost on this one! ;)

Some glitchy samples made with the 'Beads' Eurorack Module were given out for people to get inspiration from this week for the challenge, and I picked my favorite glitches to load into a Eurorack sample playback module (Squarp Rample) and am playing them back in random order throughout. The entire piece was created around those glitchy samples you hear layered in the deep background.

I sampled the, 'Holy Crap, Time Flies' vocal from Ricky Tinez. (*who has a really great voice for sampling!). ;)

Great challenge, and it gave me the inspiration to MAKE SOMETHING!! Woot!

ALL AUDIO is being fed into my mixer and then recorded with stereo outs to an MPC Live! The track was then maximized in Izotope Ozone 9 on PC.

I then sync up the audio/video manually in my video editor: Luma Fusion on iPad.

"You need to have that Aha moment and then it'll be a breeze. Essentially, you're setting your oscillator up a fifth (7 semi-tones) and that's where your oscillator will always return to. From there, you can utilize your Mod Envelope to push it up exactly 1 octave! That way when you let go of the keyboard it falls from the musical octave, down to another musical note the fifth. Hope that makes sense! I love exploring synthesis and especially exploring OB-X8 Sounds now that i've had it. Sound design on the OB-X8 is straightforward but always in a sweet spot."
