"This is a real rarity in any condition, arguably Roland's rarest vintage synth, and here we have one almost 'New Old Stock' in the original box! An early 80's desktop module from Roland in their absolute prime, based on the SH101 / MC202 architecture with the classic Curtis CEM3340 VCO plus the legendary IR3109 VCF chip as found in everything from the Jupiter 8 to the Juno 60. Driven by CV/gate, we've tested it using both an Arturia MicroFreak and a Korg SQ1 with stunning results, and has the added bonus of a built in 2 channel mono-signal mixer for routing other gear through, plus 21 slider caps as used on the Juno 6 and 60! Mad!!! Feels like this unique unit pre-dated the whole 'desktop module' thing that has been with us since the early days of Virtual Analogue from Nord and Access Virus, and by around 25 years! A very modern feeling old thing, with that small desk-space footprint but big sound we're all looking for these days."

You don't see these often. The CMU-800 normally required software running on an Apple II via an interface card. You can now use it with a MIDI interface card from beatnic.jp. Click here for some previous posts featuring the CMU-800. There was also a CMU-810 expander.

"Up for sale is extremely rare Roland CMU-810 CompuSynth, one of Roland's first Expander type modules made under the name of Roland DG Corporation (previously called Amdek).

CMU-810 has same kind of sounds and layouts as SH-101 and MS-202, but some people regard this has fatter and more aggressive sounds than those.

The unit appears to be fully functional, all the sliders and switches worked as I tested with CV/GATE connection. No noticeable noise on the sliders and switches.

Cosmetically, the unit is in beautiful condition as you can see. There may be some very minor wear and marks here and there, but nothing major at all and obviously have been looked after very well. I'm including plenty of pictures so you can see exactly how it looks.

Comes with very rare Original Amdek ACP-100 AC Adapter that works on 100V."

"This mini synth expander has the same controls as the synth part of Rolands famous MC-202, which is virtually identical to the SH-101, less waveform selection of the mod source. There is a nice audio mixer thrown in to add up to two external instruments, sadly, after the filter. The VCA is switchable between linear and exponential mode, and has a CV in for controlling it from an outside source (ie, I've mapped velocity from my MIDI keyboard, thru a MIDI-CV box to control the CMU's volume). This is a surprisingly strong sounding box."  Note there is no MIDI in.  You need CV to control it.

Today's main machine is "ACE TONE RhythmProducer〔FR-15〕". This RhythmBox was born in 1975. This time, I made the system, without sampling FR-15's sound.
