"Blue Roland SH-101 fully functioning with keytar attachment. Other than a few cosmetic blemishes and a fader or two that is mildly bent to the side, this is a 100% functioning classic SH-101. Runs on C batteries, but also throwing in the 9 volt adapter I've been using."

Intellijel Tangrams Overview Video

video upload by Intellijel

"Technical overview of the Intellijel Tangrams : A Dual ADSR/VCA with Cycling Gate Pulsers.

00:00 Intro
00:07 ADSRs
01:44 VCAs
05:38 PULSER
11:07 FINAL PATCH

Tangrams, like our Dual ADSR before it, is a dual analog core-envelope inspired by the Roland SH-101 / System 100m design with several enhancements. Taking further inspiration from trapezoidal function generators like the one on the EMS Synthi, we have added a voltage-controlled pulser circuit to link the triggering of two envelopes – allowing for delayed one-shots, cycling organic envelopes, and more. In addition, we’ve added two VCAs for level control of each envelope, or alternatively, direct injection of the signal you’d like to envelope – freeing up your other VCAs."

Intellijel Tangrams - Dual ADSR/VCA with Cycling Gate Pulsers

via Intellijel

Push (or Pulse) the Envelope

Snappy, classically analog envelopes with visually intuitive controls. Add a powerful, cv controllable cyclical gate generator, integrated VCA, and trigger buttons —then double it—now you've got Tangrams.

In addition, we’ve added two VCAs for level control of each envelope, or alternatively, direct injection of the signal you’d like to envelope – freeing up your other VCAs.

The Pulser

The Pulser can be thought of as a way to set both a gate ON time (T1) and an OFF time (T2). In this way, you could configure a cycling ADSR that has a gate time that is different from the interval between gates. Alternatively, you can create a sequence where ADSR2 is triggered by a delayed amount of time after ADSR1 is triggered (either cyclically or in a single shot sequence). The panel switches for routing or disabling the pulse sources allow for even more complex combinations of control beyond these examples. This special combination of functions can yield a plethora of interesting and organic envelope and gate patterns to be created; cyclical and single shot.

ADSR + VCA Features

Dual Analog ADSR envelopes with digital gate Pulser for trapezoid shapes
Pulser stages P1 and P2 can be selectively routed to trigger each ADSR via panel switches
Three timing ranges: (FAST: ~5 seconds, MED: ~35sec, SLOW: ~1min A/D times)
Retrig input (allows re-triggering of the envelope if source gate held high)
VCA input can be used to dynamically control the respective ADSR output level (bipolar) or to process signals to be modulated in amplitude by the ADSR.
Manual GATE buttons for each envelope

Pulser Features
A pulse is made of individually controllable T1 and T2 stage lengths
CV control over T1 and T2 time
Pulser can be one-shot (SINGLE) or repeating (CYCLE)
PULSE output has a switch to select P1 or P2 as the source.
Pulser stages P1 and P2 can be selectively routed to trigger each ADSR via panel switches
START trigger input for starting/restarting the Pulser sequence
Manual GATE button to trigger the Pulser sequence

7/18/23 Roland 104 (for sale) sequences UH-lectronics telephone synth + Fairfield Circuitry + D-TWO

video upload by Cfpp0

"Fairfield Circuitry’s Unpleasant Surprise pedal eats a telephone-cum-synthesizer created by UH-lectronics, which is being sequenced by a Roland 104 sequencer from the legendary System 100. Some T.C. Electronics D-TWO too. The 104 sequencer was refurbished in 2020 by the very meticulous Tone Tweakers in NYC, which is reflected in the price at Christopher’s Boutique 489 on Reverb where it is for sale." Link below.

"Ergonomics are not just for the elderly! If all that Eurorack wiggling and tweaking is giving you arthritis, get yourself a vintage sequencer with big knobs made for a human hand, but fitted with with the ubiquitous 3.5mm output and input jacks.

This 104 sequencer was created as part of Roland’s classic System 100, but it is very useful with other synthesizers. I have used it on Roland’s SH 101, but mostly on Roland’s System 100m. The 104 and the 100m get along very well.

The 104 produces CV and gate, has an internal clock, and can be externally stepped. Two CV channels. Series outputs and parallel outputs. 2.5v, 5v, 10v selectable per channel. CV in on the clock! End pulse output. Plus the Step button—handy for getting your sequence to the right step before starting up the master clock, or for punching in 1/8th notes when you overdub on a song you recorded to tape, but the tape stretched and you can’t clock the sequence you wanna drop so you go manual and tap that step button.

This 104 has been fully serviced by Tone Tweakers. They call it “future-proofing” but their servicing really means it works and is dependable because they fix anything wrong with it and preemptively replace parts known to fail."

"The 101-VCO has been re-tooled in 12HP! Version 2 continues its authentic realization of the Roland SH-101 Oscillator adapted to Eurorack: that lovely Sub-Octave Generator, that snowy Noise Generator, an integrated Mixer section to bring all the waves together.

Now in revision 2: Improved tuning stability using power rail voltage references. Simplified tuning via coarse/fine tune knobs. Individual waveform outputs without need for any expander module.

101-VCO expands the original SH-101 features to reveal more potential of the 3340 chip: Triangle wave and exponential FM. And 2 flavors of Linear FM: Lo Range to find those vibrato sweet spots, and Hi Range for full-on Linear FM madness. Expand the palette of original sounds using an external CV signal for Pulse Width Modulation that is summed against the initial Pulse Width amount. While the initial PW amount can go right up to the edge of vanishing, PWM can take the Width right down to 0% up to 100% for complete cancellation.

Great care was taken to keep the 101-VCO fully analog circuit as close to the original as possible. Featuring an Alfa AS3340 re-issue chip at the core of the design, surrounded by eight 20mm slide pot controls. With the conventional coarse/fine tuning knobs it will provide full audio range, whether using the v/oct input or not.

Every 101-VCO is meticulously hand-crafted in limited quantities, not mass-produced, and ready to rock your modular world. Includes 16-pin-to-10-pin power connector cable.

Coarse Tune Knob | Initial oscillator frequency

Fine Tune Knob | Initial oscillator frequency, +/-6 semitones range

FM Slider | Amount that an external signal will modulate the frequency

FM TYPE Switch | LO for vibrato, HI/EXP for more dramatic frequency modulation

PULSE WIDTH Slider | initial Pulse Width amount

PULSE WIDTH MODULATION Slider | The amount that an external signal will affect pulse width

SOURCE MIXER Sliders | Adjusts the amplitude amount of each waveform going to the MIX output

SUB-OCTAVE Switch | Select between -1 octave Square, -2 octave Squrare, -2 octave Narrow Pulse

V/Oct Jack | Pitch Initial Frequency input for connecting keyboard controllers or sequencers

FM Jack | Plug in external signals to modulate Pitch here, such as LFO or envelopes

PWM Jack | Plug in external signals to modulate the Pulse Width here, again LFOs are typical

Individual Waveform Output Jacks | These jacks always output their buffered, DC-coupled signals regardless of Source Mixer settings

Mix Output Jack | This is the combined waveform output of the Source Mixer

TUNE Trimmer (on the back) | Affects the initial oscillator frequency

SCALE Trimmer (on the back) | Affects the v/oct tracking of the oscillator"

Pharmasonic Model 101

Reasons to love your Pharmasonic 101 video upload by Tokyo-Noise

1. Fully reproduce the sounds of Roland System 100 Model 101.

2. There’s something about white synths.

3. PWM, noise, glide.

4. Timbrality. OMG those filters and VCO.

5. Sub oscillator 0, -1, -2 octaves.

6. HPF.

7. DIY.

8. Price: with the hype of new synths every month/week, prices for this serie have dropped down. I’m thinking if I should also get the 102 (ring modulator and S&H instead of noise and portamento).

Regarding timbre, my favorite mono synths are: Roland SH series and Arps, followed by Dreadbox, Sequential Circuits, Oberheim SEM, miniKORG 700 and Moogs. Korg MS 20 is a little bit “nasal” for my taste but the architecture is awesome.

"The Pharmasonic 101 really exists and it sounds great. It's a faithful reproduction of Roland System 100 Model 101.

I bought it fully assembled from Pharmasonic this year (2023) and it's only been tested and used for a couple of recordings. Since Pharmasonic seems to be making it again along with the 102 for the Japanese market, I'm selling this hoping I can get another one soon.

8 eurorack modules that are the equivalent of the Roland System 100 Model 101, plus a super useful Inverter / Multiple, all in 64 HP. The modules are:
- VCO
- VCF
- VCA
- LFO
- ADSR
- Mixer
- Noise
- Glide / Portamento
- Inverter / Multiple"

Tales from the Hedge no.2 (as dusk falls mix) 2 synth ambient jam with Roland Sh-01 Gaia and SH-101

video upload by

"A little piece I recorded for the Hardware Jams weekend challenge - two box jam.
After all the gorgeous sunshine, it was raining on the day I had some time free for jamming in the woods. I waited and waited until it finally stopped and I managed to get a relatively dry session in as the sun set and dusk fell.
I missed getting footage of the small herd of 6 fallow deer that were my audience for my practice takes, they moved on as the mist came in across the field.

"This is an analog synthesizer/sequencer. It sounds very much like the TB-303 and SH-101 bass synths. Sometimes considered the "poor man's 303". It has a very evolved form of TB-303 like programming (more like the MC-4) and SH-101 like controls of the VCO, VCF, VCA, LFO, Envelope and Mixer sections. The LCD display is a great feature too."
