The Cave Sessions (Jams with Sheenah)

video uploads by Sheenah Ko

Playlist at the time of this post:

1. Cave Sessions with Sheenah Ko (Improvised jam with Roland Juno 60, Prophet 6 and Toraiz SP16)

"Here's the 2nd video of my new series, the Cave Sessions, where I invite you deep into my woman cave to watch my solo jam sessions, featuring special guest, Ginger! Jamming and improvising is my way of discovering and learning more about my gear, my voice, and creating new ideas without any rules. I also compose a lot of my songs this way. This time I am improvising on the Roland Juno 60, Sequential Prophet-60 (Master) and Toraiz-SP16 (Slave)!

2. Cave Sessions with Sheenah Ko (welcome to my creative process)

"Welcome to my cave....where laundry and synthesizers have their place. I invite you to watch my song-writing process. The way I write songs is through meditative and improvised jam sessions; I press record and let myself go, and because each instrument is being recorded separately, I can go back to my jam and sculpt/chip away and create a new song. MY GEAR: Sequential Prophet-6 (Master), Nord Stage 2, Sequential/Pioneer DJ Toraiz SP-16 (slave), Roland Juno-60"

About Sheenah Ko:
"I'm a professional keyboardist and solo artist based out of Montreal, Canada, and a Sequential Keyboards artist. I am often composing music under my name (Sheenah Ko) or touring the world rocking international stages with so many rad bands like The Besnard Lakes, Antoine Corriveau, Le Couleur... (the roster is looooong). I love geeking out on synthesizers, writing trippy music, travelling, spending as much time as possible in nature, hanging with Ginger cat and spreading good vibes. I have a brand new album coming out on June 3, 2022 called FUTURE IS NOW, stay tuned!!!

Sequential Synth Tips #27 With INHALT: Prophet-5 And Prophet-10 PWM

video upload by Sequential

"As the founding member of INHALT and Infinite Power Studios, Matia Simovich’s productions and sound design have questioned the line between forward-thinking, avant pop and the depths of the underground. Never one to shy from the dark or the unorthodox, his production style is equally inclusive: hardware-centric and exudes the decadence and lushness of the past while integrating the precision and speed of today’s studio process.

This synth tips episode features Matia building a patch with PWM that changes rate as you play up and down the Prophet-10.

Escaping The Darkness ft. the Sequential Prophet 6 sound set "PolyVision" by Synthient Sound

Hear every patch: [posted here]

Favs walkthrough and tips: [posted here]

Now the song :)

I always want to put new gear/software/sounds into actual music to see how it performs. This piece started as a demonstration of the PolyVision sounds, but quickly evolved into this musical journey. Somewhere on that journey I decided that I wanted a themed video for it...something that would loosely be Halloween-ish and would be a slight of retelling of the Hero's Journey (see Joseph Campbell's work on the subject), albeit in an incomplete and very abstract way.

I've been a musician for a long time, but I am definitely no film maker! :) I used free video from several websites, for which I am grateful. The most important part is the music, but if you enjoy metaphor, ancient near east symbolism, and being mildly entertained by low budget films (a serious topic no doubt diminished by my amateurish attempts at video), then sink into the music.

The track features a number of patches from PolyVision and nearly the entire track is the Prophet 6, save some drums from EZDrummer2, a few Telecaster parts, and the heartbeat sample at the beginning. All other sounds including the obvious synths, piano, cellos/violas, sound effects are all from PolyVision. It has quite a number of parts to the song...evolving and trans-versing the sonic realms much as our heroine does.

I truly hope you will enjoy it and I thank you for watching. -Cryss
