Studiologic Sledge 2 audio demo at NAMM 2015

via Studiologic:

"Studiologic is proud to introduce a new 2.0 version of its renowned Sledge synthesizer, with new features and sound innovations that will set this instrument above any competitor, thanks to new mix of pure synthesis and sound sampling.
In addition to the incredible sound engine and the user’s friendly vintage control panel, the new features further expand the instrument’s power and versatility; Studiologic and Waldorf Labs (working as a team) have made Sledge 2.0 more flexible as a pure synthesizer, adding the ability to play in Dual Mode two programs at the same time, load Samples and mix post processing Effects in a never ending sound creation.

Sledge 2.0 Key features
NewFeaturesAuto Dual mode: Sledge 2.0 can now play two sounds at the same time, in Split or Layer mode; the feature is controlled by a new page of the Global function and allows to simply keep one note (for Split) or more notes (for Layer) and then select a new sound, that will be added to the previous sound; as any other sound, also Dual Sound combinations can be permanently stored in any of the 1.000 available presets;

Sample Player: sound samples and new waves can be loaded in the internal 60 megabyte of Flash memory, played by OSC 1 and modifiable by all parameters of the control panel, adding other oscillators, setting filters, envelopes and effects. This feature can constantly expands the instrument’s sounds and create a totally new combination of synthesis and sampling.

Pitch & Hold controls: a new Global page allows to enable the Pitch and the Hold separately for the Lower and Upper sounds in Dual Mode, allowing to use the Pitch bend on the Upper sound (i.e. for solo parts) and the Hold pedal to control only the Lower (to keep playing a Drums groove or as a Damper for a Piano sound) and vice versa, or to enable Pitch Bend and Hold on both Upper and Lower sounds;

Reverb+Delay: a new function allows to mix both effects; the Reverb keeps the setting previously selected, while the real time controls (time and level) allows to set the parameters of Delay also when mixed.

Enhanced Polyphony: the total maximum number or notes that can be played at the same time have been expanded to 24, allowing to get a better real time control over the new sound possibilities obtainable from synthesis and sampling together.

Sledge Spectre: samples can be edited (keyboard range, tuning and other parameters) and transmitted to Sledge 2.0 by the USB port, with this easy sample editor that allows to first load and play the samples on your Computer and then download them into the instrument’s memory."

Nova Musik - Studiologic Sledge 2.0 with Chris Martirano

Published on May 13, 2015 Nova Musik

"Check out great deals on Studiologic Sledge 2.0 at Nova Musik: http://www.novamusik.com/instruments/...

The original Studiologic Sledge had a great concept: marry a state-of-the-art digital synth engine from Waldorf Music with a knob-per-function panel layout based on a traditional subtractive synthesis signal flow, giving you all of the benefits of DSP modeling synthesis without the tedious menu-diving that plagues other digital synths.

Now, with a new operating system dubbed Sledge 2.0, Studiologic and Waldorf Labs have added even more power and versatility with the ability to load and play back user samples either on their own or in concert with the rest of the synth engine. A handy free Mac/PC utility allows you to edit your samples and upload them to Sledge. They've also added some extra performance features, including an Auto Dual mode for easy splits and layers and more granular pitch and hold/sustain controls."

New Synth Gear and Makers in January 2015

After this year's massive New Years post, I thought it might be interesting to see how many new makers and new gear announcements we received in a single month.

This may or may not become a monthly theme on the site depending on interest.  If you think it's worth while, leave a comment.

At a high level we had 12 new makers, one new old maker previously never featured on the site, and a whopping 193 new synth related products. Check out the module list below.  The list is a combination of what was either announced or released this month.

The list in order of appearance:

"Paulo introduced us to Studiologic's Numa X Piano GT. The Numa X range comes in three versions: the 73 note, 88, and the flagship GT, with an easy to use interface and based on three concepts: colour, where the interface assumes the color of the selected zone, long press, where a musician can modify sound parameters or edit the split point, and navigation icons, which guide users through available pages.

The Max Piano GT is designed for stage or studio and is dedicated to acoustic and electric piano, employing physical modelling to give flexible control over sympathetic resonance, tone, damper noise and more. The FX section is an big part of the X-Piano, with up to two instant effects for each part and two master effects.

NAMM 2023 - PSound - Gran Coda

"Paolo from PSound introduced us to Gran Coda, which is a recreation of the Fazioli Piano. The instrument was recorded inside the Fazioli Concerto Hall in collaboration with the Fazioli technicians to reproduce the real natural sound of the acoustic piano, and it's the only virtual instrument authorized by Fazioli.

Paola's new virtual instrument has three different sounds: the close mic position, the side position, and Binaural Recording. The Binaural Recording simulates the position of the pianist inside the Fazioli Concert Hall. The virtual instrument has up to 14 velocity layers and layers for staccato and resonance, and a total of 10 gigabytes of memory sounds. Paolo added controls, such as the release, the volume of the release of the sound, the pedal noise, and resonance, to reproduce the real natural sound of the acoustic piano.

Gran Coda: Available soon

Price: 200 USD / Euros
