Synthomania 2018 Synth Gathering Set for September 8, San Antonio, TX w/ Gary Numan

Full details here.

"Synthomania is a synthesizer exhibition and swap meet hosted by Syntaur. We’re putting dozens of rare vintage synths on display, and you get to spend quality time with them. Lay hands on a Yamaha CS-80, experience a rare Soviet analog synth, or play Syntaur’s signature Juno-107! If you can't bear the thought of going home without a certain keyboard, don't worry, most of the synths on display will be for sale.

For Synthomania 2018, we're also hosting a line-up of synth artists performing live on stage. There's no better place to hang out and groove to live music than Paper Tiger, and whether you want to sip a soda or enjoy a cold brew, you will be well accommodated. It’s a family-friendly environment, so bring along the spouse and kids. As the swap meet and exhibit wrap up, you can move to the main stage for Gary Numan’s concert, the San Antonio performance on his second Savage tour! (Tickets are required for this performance.)

With some fantastic door prizes, you may just be going home with a new treasure. But aside from just the gear, Synthomania is also a great place to hang out with synth fans! With so many enthusiastic players in front of so many amazing keyboards, you'll never run out of things to talk about."

Synth Wizards Episode 9: Holy Grail: The Yamaha CS-80

Published on Mar 31, 2020 Syntaur

"The Synth Wizards located the holy grail of polyphonic keyboards: a Yamaha CS-80. But the last time it was turned on, it smoked instead of made music. Did we pay thousands of dollars for a pile of parts, or will we end up with a magical music machine?"

Don't miss the visit to Yamaha's synth museum in this one. The rare GS2 and VL1 are featured. Note the patch strip and loader for the GS2. You can find additional posts and demos featuring the GS2 here. There's also a section on Michael Jackson's classic Billie Jean. You can find additional posts featuring Syntaur Synth Wizards here. Roland Juno-60 Keyboard Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Roland Juno-60 61-key polyphonic synthesizer. This synth is about 35 years old, but is in very good condition for its age. All keys, sliders, switches, bender, filters, chorus, patch bank, etc. are fully functioning.

There are two exceptions. The biggest issue is the arpeggiator. It works currently, but it is stuck in the "up & down" and "range = 2" positions. I recently purchased the two 3-point arpeggiator toggles you see in the photos from Syntaur.com - I put them in the right spot, but now they simply need to be soldered to the circuit board. (Note that the yellow "Hold" button cap was also a replacement purchase from Syntaur.com)

The lesser issue is that the "Key Transpose" button will turn on, but it won't turn off consistently. This problem goes away if you restart the synth. I expect that this is also an easy fix for someone who knows some basic synth maintenance techniques.

Otherwise, everything else seems to works great and the synth sounds amazing."

The Rare 360 Systems Digital Keyboard (Overview & Demo)

video upload by Syntaur

"Nick Zehr Moon shows off the super rare 360 Systems Digital Keyboard, just refurbished at Syntaur. Introduced in 1982, only about 200 of these were manufactured. It also features a CEM-based analog filter."

Sample Magic: Mastering the Ensoniq EPS/ASR Samplers

"Sample Magic: Mastering the Ensoniq EPS/ASR Samplers gives readers the inside scoop, going beyond what is covered in the manuals. Mims gives up a multitude of sound design secrets, shows how to optimize the sampler for either live performance or studio tracking, and gets into the nitty-gritty of mastering a SCSI setup. The book is not a dry technical manual, it's a witty journey through practical applications, such as:

* How to use drum loops, and make them match your sequencer tempo exactly,
* How to sneak in an extra part when all sequencer tracks are used,
* How to create an Ensoniq-format CD-ROM,
* How to save a damaged floppy disk,
* Which SCSI drives work with which samplers,
* How to set up, navigate, and optimize a SCSI drive,
* How to program an arpeggiator in your sampler (and no, it's not using the sequencer!),
* How to free up polyphony,
* What those ERROR messages can tell you,
* How to troubleshoot problems with your sampler.

Syntaur Productions has been producing Ensoniq sounds for over two decades, and has supplied sonic ammunition to Outkast, Wu Tang Clan, Nelly, Kanye West, Black Eyed Peas, Brandy, Elton John, Fishbone, and many others.

Pricing and Availability:
Sample Magic (153 pages, spiral bound soft cover) is available for $29.95

Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot TT-303 Hardware TB-303 Clone Released

Update 11/28: Update on the price:

UK: £449.00 + VAT
EU: €549.00 + VAT
US: $699.99 + VAT

Update: additional pics & PDF via Lorne/kidtronic via Rhythm Active.

Remember the Bass Bot TT-303 demo videos posted here back on October 18?   Well, it is currently available as of today, and it is the first product from a new company named Cyclone Analogic based in Hong Kong (possible sites not yet live: http://www.cyclone-analogic.com | http://www.tt-303.com).  You will find full details on the TT-303 further below.

Before we get to that, Robin Whittle, who brought us the Devilfish Mods for the original TB-303, will be performing them for the TT-303 as well. You can find details on his page here.

Lorne aka kidtronic wrote in to let us know Rhythm Active in Australia, one of our sponsors, currently has the TT-303 available. I also hear Syntaur in the US has them for $649.95 $699.95 plus $14.95 shipping to the lower 48.  Syntaur adds the following details: "There is a nicely-done printed manual - on real paper, with ink! Just like back in the analog days of yore... Also a power adapter, and a MIDI break-out cable. (The TT-303 has a single 8-pin MIDI jack. A standard 5-pin cable can be used for MIDI In only, and the break-out cable - 8-pin jack to two 5-pin cables - can be used for MIDI In and Out.)" Update 11/28: Modular Square in France (one of our sponsors) will have them in stock soon (via Twitter).

The following details are via Superior Sound London, who currently shows them as being sold out in the UK:

"The Bass Bot TT 303 electronic bass synth features a selectable monophonic analog VCO processed through a 4 pole analog cascading filter. It uses 21st-century transistor technology to synthesize tones from super-crisp self-resonating leads to squelchy rhythms and deep subharmonic bass grooves.

Creating music as simple or complex as you want with the Bass Bot is a breeze. Its ground-breaking InstaDJ OS is an artificially intelligent sequencer and can be programmed in two methods: by a human user or by the computer-controlled Bass Bot.

Humans may program musical patterns manually using traditional step entry with control over pitch, time, length and special characteristics such as octave transpose, accent and slide for each note.

Alternatively let the Bot generate a pattern and use it immediately, tweak it to taste, or mutate it into a new pattern altogether at the touch of a button. The Bass Bot TT 303 includes seven different ‘personalities’ each of which generates its own special style of musical patterns. No two Bots will produce the same patterns. Each is as individual as the user, though the basic personalities are the same for every Bass Bot.

The Bass Bot TT 303 features seven unique preset personality programs, capable to generate up to 224 computer generated presets by the Bass Bot ™.

An additional 224 Editable Patterns can compose up to 7 songs of up to 127 bars. All information is saved to onboard flash (permanent) memory and transferable directly to other Bass Bots via 8 Pin DIN cable (cloning) or to PC / MAC (backup) for storage with a downloadable transfer application available on our website. Other platforms to be supported soon.

ARP Odyssey MKI Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

via the seller: "This is a 100% fully functional ARP Odyssey with factory cv ins/outs and external audio input

This Odyssey has been fully restored by Syntaur here in Texas. I have two odysseys right now and this one sounds cleaner and stays in tune better. The keys feel great with a good amount of resistance. The sliders feel good and don't crackle when moved. The slider caps appear to be original. The text is slightly smudged on the osc1 section and a little faded on the Odyssey logo. The plastic housing is scratched on the inside left and broken on the back left. One screw does not match on the back.

The work recently done included but was not limited to

-recapped power supply
-tuned and calibrated
-cleaned and lubed all pots, switches and caps
-every slider was either replaced or desoldered / disassembled / cleaned and lubed.

Here's a link to a video syntaur made about how they restore all of their ARP sliders:

Synth Wizards Episode 8: The Elusive DX1

Premiered Sep 2, 2019 Syntaur

Syntaur on Reverb

"The Wizards were challenged to find an ultra-rare synthesizer for a client who has been on the search for one for decades. It took a year, and a cross-country adventure - and in the end (spoiler alert!), everyone was smiling."

DX1 demo mixtape

"These tracks were recorded direct from the DX1 with no external processing or effects, and Sam is playing along live to a drum loop from the Ensoniq ASR-X. These grooves were just off-the-cuff improvisations, and we didn't worry about fixing any bad notes, sloppy timings, etc."
