Lumanoise v.2 Demo #TTNM

Published on Mar 22, 2015 The Tuesday Night Machines

"The Lumanoise Version 2 is a light-controlled drone synth from Italy. Watch this demo video, in which I explain its features and ways to play it with light.

LepLoop Website:
http://tonylight-leploop.blogspot.it/

Lumanoise Website:
http://lumanoise.blogspot.it/

The L.E.P. Lumanoise v2 has a square wave oscillator, a sawtooth oscillator and double, Trautonium-inspired sub oscillator. After mixing the oscillators together, the signal is sent through a Low Pass Filter with adjustable Resonance (which goes up to self-oscillation). The filter cutoff frequency, as well as the individual oscillators' pitches, can be controlled by light, via the light sensors on the top panel.

Other stuff shown in this video:
- PixiVisor iOS App http://www.warmplace.ru/soft/pixivisor/ (also available for Android, Mac, Linux & Windows)
- RGB LED Strip with IR remote control (no particular brand)
- Hypnocube 4x4x4 RGB LED Cube"

Exomène & Percussa Audio Cubes

via Percussa

"How Exomène is using AudioCubes in his Performances and Studio

Exomène, a soundsmith and digital apothecary as he describes himself on his website, is been using the AudioCubes for a couple of years now. He’s using the AudioCubes in all his live performances as well as in his studio:

'I've been using Audiocubes in all my shows since I bought them but they proved to be very useful in the studio too where I only use them in sender/receiver mode. This configuration allows me to quickly test different melodies with the arpegiator or easily maintain one note leaving my hands free to make the sound evolve by modifying the parameters of the synth and effects. Actually, my first album 'The life and death of an unnoticed shadow' was recorded with Audiocubes as my main instrument.'

Exomène recently shared with us a cool video in which he is using the AudioCubes together with some of his other gear to perform live. Click on the image below to check out Exomène's video KinderGarten. [embed below]

In his current setup, he is using 3 AudioCubes with Propellerhead's Reason:

'I use 3 cubes with Propellerhead's Reason, 2 in sender/receiver mode to trigger an arpegiator which usually runs the main layer of my soundscape. The 3rd cube is in sensor mode. Depending on the track, it runs the arpegiator parameters and/or the main synth parameters and/or several other effects, usually a distortion, an equalizer, a phaser and a flanger. You can see them (the blue and pink lights at the right of the screen) in my live capture of "side by side'. [embed further below]

About Exomène

I am Exomène : a soundsmith and a digital apothecary. As a musician, I make cinematic soundscapes on albums and industrial music live. Speaking about live, I am into audiovisual performances like Side by Side, Digital Primitive or the Spoken Worms. As a digital artist, I am interested in the similarities between brain and processors with the synæsizer. I am also interested in vintage software æesthetic, glitch and databending.

"Here is a video demo to appreciate Exomène (www.exomene.com) performing live.
And what a better playground for industrial music than playing in a factory!

Exomène's approach is very physical and far away from music studio.
Exomène always engages and interacts with its audience especially through the use of colorful and interactive performances controllers.
Then the crowd in itself is also a performance controller : the movements, the color of the clothes... everything is used to interact with sounds thanks to video capture.

This approach have its real significance when Exomène's performs in A/V projects such as "X-Peri-Mental".

X-Peri-Mental is a performance realised by the collective of artists 'le:d'
l:ed (l : Experiments in Digital) is a group of artists currently composed by the image slayer Dorianne Wotton and the soundsmith Exomène.
Collaborating since 2004 around the concept of 'æsthetic of desolation' their work extends to the areas of photo, music, video, digital arts and multimedia performances.
Their more recent works are 'The spoken worms' (audiovisual performance), 'Synæsizer' (digital art installation), "Glitch-O-matic" (digital art installation) and X-Peri-Mental (audiovisual live act).
X-Peri-Mental is meant to be a live act, so l:ed always engages and interacts with its audience especially through video capture.
The crowd directly shape our performance because we choose our sounds and images according to its reaction. That is why we face the audience and we use colorful and interactive performances controllers."

"EXOMENE / DORIANNE WOTTON / MARIE BARTHELEMY / ALEXIS OCHIN : 'Side by side'

Zombies 1985 - A New Film by Tara Busch & Maf Lewis to Feature Synth Score by Tara & Benge

Many of you are likely familiar with Tara Busch & Benge, featured numerous times here on MATRIXSYNTH. It turns out Tara is a film maker as well as musician extraordinaire. She and Maf Lewis are currently seeking funding for their new film, Zombies 1985.   There's only 24 hours to go!  You'll find the campaign on Kickstarter here. The film will feature a live score composed by Benge & Tara. Brings back memories of John Carpenter who also composed the scores for his films on vintage analog synths. Definitely looking forward to this one.

Left: "Composers Tara Busch & Benge Edwards working together in the studio with John Foxx."

Below: Zombie Tara & Benge

Some details for the archives:

"A short film with live score set in 1985 about a self-obsessed man who fails to notice the Zombie Apocalypse happening around him.

OVERVIEW:

'Zombies 1985' is one in a series of short horror and science fiction films that are created to be performed with a live score. Here's an extract of a live performance for one of our previous films, "The Silence".

Zombies 1985" tells the story of greed and self obsession in 1980's Britain. The film will be created by the collective I Speak Machine, directed by Maf Lewis, score composed by Tara Busch and Benge Edwards, and featuring Lee Bane.

PLOT:
Steve is an upwardly mobile entrepreneur who believes he has come up with the next big thing - the next Rubik's Cube. 'It's going to be bigger than Betamax!'.

The film covers his journey home from a super successful day at the office where he's all but closed the biggest deal of his life. Just a couple of mobile phone calls on the way home and it's in the bag. However, as he races back to celebrate with his wife and kids, we witness his fall from apparent certain victory to increasing infuriation - everyone's suddenly stopped taking his calls. His anger and desperation boils over when he can't get anyone on the phone....not his secretary, his investors, or his wife. All the while, the Zombie Apocalypse is happening around him; he's just too self absorbed to notice it... until he gets home."

Roland Aira TB-3 + CASIO XW-P1 (sequencer play)

Published on May 21, 2014 Metatron's Cube·61 videos

"Starting to dig into the sequencer on the Casio XW-P1. I had 4 or 5 unused tracks as well. Just trying to get comfortable using the new menu layout on the new synth. Sounds beastly even with the tb-3 blasting away. The synth section is really big too, saw that it had 300-ish waveform types and went back to the sequencer...another day for that. Some fooling about for the first three minutes till I settle on some beat sounds. Thanks for watching/listening.

Percuss New Wireless AudioCubes firmware and MIDIBridge in the Works

via the Percussa newsletter:

"First of all, thanks being on this list and for supporting Percussa and my work with AudioCubes and for reading the newsletter!

I've been silent for quite a while, posting a bit less than usually, both on the newsletter and the blog. This is because I've been working hard on a new update to the AudioCubes firmware, as well as a new version of MIDIBridge :-)

Why a new version of the firmware and MIDIBridge?
If you've used MIDIBridge, the main application to generate MIDI information using AudioCubes, or if you've read the manuals, you already know that there are three modes you can put the cubes in: SENDER, RECEIVER (used for sending MIDI note on/off triggers when cubes detect each other), and SENSOR (used for sending MIDI continuous controllers based on distance between cubes or hands and cubes).

With the current version of MIDIBridge and the firmware, you don't have this cube detection + distance information at the same time. I'm working on a new update to change all that, and to make distance information and cube detection available simultaneously, in the form of a new cube mode in MIDIBridge, called TOPOLOGY.

This will bring what you can do with the AudioCubes to a whole new level! Imagine the AudioCubes as a synthesizer where signals can be patched and modulation depth changed simply by creating a network of cubes and changing their relative distances, or imagine sending MIDI triggers and controllers at the same time, the possibilities are enndless. These new capabilities will give rise to new, improved and updated AudioCubes software :-)"

Volca Bass x3, Korg Monotribe x3 (Six Harmony)

Published on Mar 17, 2014 Metatron's Cube·47 videos

"A Volca Keys and Beats for added good measure. Just having fun experimenting with sounds and video.
My old editor was being crappy out of the blue and not starting up(OpenShot), so I tried the other one I had loaded on my computer(Kdenlive, both free video editors on Linux).
It has some strange effects as you will see. Thanks for listening/watching.

Other fun stuff:
A new USB 2ch audio/midi in/out "thing" should be here soon, maybe it will allow some cool stuff to be done with midi and upgrade the sound a bit. We shall see. Also, I am setting up a 'Raspberry Pi' mini computer as a software synth/ digital effects processor. I'll post a little video of it at some point here."

Korg Volca Series+MicroBRUTE+MicroKORG(The Electronic Roundtable)

Published on Mar 11, 2014 Metatron's Cube·46 videos

"This was recorded after a bit of a warm-up session( which will get posted as well but it was a larger upload and lost out).

Two Kp3s, a quad pad, the monotron delay, and Kp2-mini round out the effects. And room for a couple more things(a lonely MS-20mini and the gold microkorg...and three monotribes if I get around to making a non-active summing mixer). Plugging in way too many mixers, lol.

However, we should be able to create "synth islands" now and pre-program three very different songs and do an extended set of 30-45 minutes. More like a club setting of constant play or a concert, but not as cool.

Off to bed while this uploads. Thanks for watching/listening."

Percussa AudioCubes Featured in The Denver Post

"Bert Schiettecatte holds up an AudioCube as he demonstrates its use for a music class at STEM Magnet Lab in Northglenn. (Seth McConnell | YourHub)"

It's great to see synth gear featured like this. via The Denver Post where you'll find the full article.

"Since he was a young boy, Bert Schiettecatte has always allowed his passions to consume him completely. His first passion was Lego building blocks...

'I combined my two favorite things: musical instruments and Legos,' Schiettecatte said.

Like glowing Rubik's Cube robots, the AudioCubes are smart, wireless blocks that come in sets of four and are programmed to play music by sensing the location of other blocks or objects. Users plug one block into their computer and point different sides of the remaining blocks at it. A system of lights and sensors trigger the devices to combine beats and sounds into a rhythm."

Published on Jul 17, 2013 erasureinfo·63 videos

"Erasure's Vince Clarke demonstrates the art of 'Synth Gurning' as part of his introduction to The First International Synth Gurning Competition which is currently running on his website here..."

And a new Synthe Meme is born. I do think the seals have him beat, and the sea, definitely the sea.

Richard EIS demonstrates Synth Gurning

Details: http://www.vinceclarkemusic.com/interact/synthgurning.php

"We all know about ‘Air Guitar’ (a form of movement in which the performer pretends to play rock or heavy metal-style electric guitar) and ‘Beatboxing’ (a form of vocal percussion primarily involving the art of producing drum beats, using one’s mouth, lips, tongue, and voice).

But what about ‘Synth Gurning’? Synth Gurning is defined as the art of producing synth sounds or effects using just the voice whilst pulling a funny face.

In order to give this little known artform the attention and respect it rightly deserves, we’re launching the worlds first International Synth Gurning competition..."

Anyone know what this is? That's a Yamaha KX25 MIDI controller so I'm guessing it's software.

Update via Bob Borries in the comments: "It looks to me like the cube plugged into the midi port is a tiny analog hardware synth. It's powered by the voltage in the midi cable and has one audio output. Amazingly small, yet has a big sound. I wonder how you edit the sounds for the 64 user presets?"
