While you are checking out the links and downloading the samples, you might want to check out all the cool CsoundXO stuff that has been happening on the OLPC XO laptop:

Over these past two months the CsoundXO Developers - especially John ffitch, Victor Lazzarini, Andres Cabrera, Jacob Joaquin, Cesare Marilungo, and Greg Thompson have really pushed out some new and important tools and activities for the XO. Links to some of these are below.

A most important result of this development initiative is the fact that John and Victor got the CsoundXO subset of Csound5 to be FULLY SYNCHRONIZED and TOTALLY COMPATIBLE with the current release of Public Csound (and automated the process so that they will ALWAYS be in sync!) and Andres has a CsoundXO manual that is fully synchronized as well!!!!!

(by Victor), and the toots.

Development on the XO

+ Victor has developed a wonderful small collection of tutorial

activities with sliders and buttons controlling CsoundXO

- waves - a simple additive synth

- synth - a subtractive synth with USB keyboard control

- playfiles - an 8 track remixer with record capability

- GMplayer - an iterface and instrument for loading and playing any GM file with Csound - using the Avid/M-Audio donated Sample Set

+ including thousands of instruments and models from The Csound

Catalog plus dozens of compositions and MIDI instruments,

- CsoundRemixer - for jamming with the OLPCsound Sample Archive (and adding Csound FX instruments)

- GMPlayAlong - for playing general MIDI files with Csound and visualizing the tracks on the ascii keyboard, virtual piano keyboard and pianoroll

- PlayAlong Keyboard - for playing Csound Instruments from a USB and/or Virtual Keyboard: GMplayer, Sampler, SynthExplorer (all sorts of synths)

* coming soon (within the next two weeks) by Cesare Marilungo

Vintage Synth Lab demo Eurorack modular analog synth VCO-81 VCF-74 D-ENV

video by Vintage Synthlab

"Analog modular eurorack synthesizer demonstrating the fast envelope action of the D-ENV (Delayed Envelope Generator), with the VCF-74 Mk2 (analog diode-ring filter module based on the 1970s mini-Korg 700 700s), and our VCO-81 (CEM3340 precision, high-quality analog VCO - unreleased). Our N-STH (Noise + Sample/Track & Hold) is used to provide white noise for extra snare sound, S&H routed to the HP filter of the VCF-74, and Track & Hold from another N-STH is used to slew the pitch of the CV controlling the VCO-81 (pitch) 1v/octave.

The result is a warm, analog, singing mono-synth voice, full of endless possibilities of character to dial in whether live, recording, or used as a tool for deep sound design in the pro and commercial audio industries."

"FENESTRA is a global initiative to support visually impaired musicians
Learn more & join the cause!
https://fenestra.lv/

On 5th of September first Fenestra workshop took place in the main hub of the initiative - Synthlab in Riga, Latvia. The workshop was organized by Erica Synths and gathered 4 visually impaired musicians from Latvia to learn the possibilities of the Pico System III. It was led by Mario who despite his visual impairment has been mastering modular synthesis for several years in addition to playing trumpet and being a DJ. All the participants were gifted Pico Systems to endorse their continuation of electronic music explorations.

VCO-81 percussion / tom drum synthesis demo 20160625

Published on Jun 26, 2019 Vintage Synthlab

"Two VCO-81s, utilized as the main body voicing of the percussion sound (tom drums in this case). A modulation and equal tracking of exp FM is applied via a D-ENV env gen. One of the VCO-81s is also receiving a slight Lin FM of ~2 Hz..

AWM-3 used as attenuators / gain for CV routing to VCF-74's LP filter cutoff (of white noise portion of drum sound) to allow for custom spread, aka 'keyboard tracking' mixed with a D-ENV env gen.

A huge percussive sound can be synthesized and shaped in a very wide variety of drum sounds, metallic, organic, wood, small to large."

AWM-3 Demo #5 : Stereo Chorus effect with wavefolding and matrix-mixing

Published on Mar 25, 2017 Vintage SynthLab

"The AWM-3 is not just a mixer and wavefolder. It's ability to uniquely wave shape signal in realtime as a pure analog waveform processor, defined compression for more wave-shaping possibilities, and a set of all matrix-mix combinations as dedicated buffered outputs create wonderful, lush, stereo chorus effect when external modulation sources are applied to the CV inputs."

The Birotron B90 - Video

Uploaded on Jul 1, 2010 tapediskmagic·2 videos

"The rarest manufactured instrument - the extinct and impossible to find Birotron playing worn out mixed tapes of string section, brass, violas, choir, and flutes across the keyboard.
The musician is Chris Dale who very kindly let me do the video.
So what did this instrument sound like with a decent set of unworn tapes???? That is a mystery.....Sadly we may never know."

The is the first and only Birotron post unless you count this flickr pic.

Update via synthlab in the comments:

"If you want to know how the Birotron sounds with unworn tapes, just listen to ' Tormato' by Yes.
Rick Wakeman, who commissioned the Birotron, uses
it all over the album. You won't be able to hear it in isolationn though.... "
