See the MMTA SYNTHFEST 2014 channel for all posts featuring this year's event.

Side note: if you are on a Mac and your mouse pointer disappears, click off screen to get it back. Based on what I can find out there I believe it is due to a bug with Flash on Mac. If anyone knows of a solution, let me know.

Update: I accidentally had the TTSH and Rhythm Wolf videos under the 2013 label. They have been updated with the 2014 label.  Be sure to see them if you haven't already!

Madrona Labs Aalto & Soundplane.

Apologies for the super short clip on this one. Took this one from the side and the event wrapped up before I could capture a proper demo. I thought it was worth posting for historical purposes and to remind people out there about the Soundplane and Aalto, but great products from Madrona Labs. It's worth noting Madrona Labs also gave a talk at the Decibel Festival this year. Hopefully that will appear on video in time.

Line level was a little hot on this one so there's some distortion. It sounded cleaner live. Some sweat spots in this one.

Madrona Labs to Demonstrate the Soundplane at Decibel Festival

"Madrona Labs will demonstrate the Soundplane at this year’s Decibel Festival, Sept. 28-30 in Seattle

The new Soundplane instrument from Madrona Labs, three years in the making, will be demonstrated live at this year's Decibel Festival in Seattle. The Soundplane gives performers intimate control over computer-made sounds. The Soundplane detects a wide range of pressure on its hardwood surface, from a light tickle to very firm pressure, and sends that information over a USB connection. It can be configured as either a 150-note keyboard with x, y and pressure sensing on each key, or as one continuous pressure-sensing surface.

The Soundplane goes beyond the capabilities of any MIDI keyboard. It transmits x, y and pressure data for every key continuously at 12 bits of resolution and about 1000 samples per second, letting players move beyond the ADSR envelope model of synthesis and articulate each note individually, as on an acoustic instrument.

At Decibel 2011, festival goers will be able to spend quality time with a Soundplane prototype in an ongoing, hands-on demo. The demonstrations will be in the Fred Wildlife Refuge, at 127 E. Boylston, from noon to 5 pm, Wednesday September 28 through Friday September 30. Admission to the demonstrations is free. Pricing and availability for the Soundplane will be announced during the festival.

About Madrona Labs:

Madrona Labs makes hardware and software for computer music. The company was founded in 2009 by Randy Jones, who has been writing and shipping software tools for creative expression since 1998. Randy and his colleagues are driven to create electronic instruments that can be at least as expressive as acoustic ones. More information is available on the website at http://madronalabs.com."

Decibel Festival is a non-profit, four-day annual music and arts festival held in Seattle, WA. Founded in 2003, the festival bridges the gap between technology and creativity through visual art, workshops, panel discussions and cutting-edge electronic music performances. By assembling a diverse selection of international talent, Decibel Festival provides a forum for musicians, industry professionals and educators alike.

The core of the festival is comprised of several concerts and live performances presented in a variety of locations throughout Seattle’s hip Capitol Hill neighborhood. In addition to these performance programs, Decibel includes a professional section featuring panels and workshops. Since its inception, Decibel has hosted over 400 acts ranging from underground dance and experimental electronic music to transmedial art."
