Yamaha Introduces the MODX+

video upload by Yamaha Synths Official

It looks like the rumors were wrong on this one - no AN-X engine. Instead we get the AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sample and synthesis engine, and a pure FM-X (Frequency Modulation) engine.

"Check out the compact, lightweight MODX+ synthesizers, designed to help you take control of your sound and stand out on every stage, studio or stream.

SOUND

The most important element of any instrument is the sound. MODX+ makes all elements of your music sound amazing. MODX+ uses the same technology that powers the flagship MONTAGE: 128 notes of AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sample and synthesis polyphony for stunning emulative acoustic instruments, synth sounds and drums. MODX+ also features 128 notes of FM-X (Frequency Modulation) polyphony - a unique, expressive, highly-programmable synthesis technology for dynamic, electro-modern music creation.

The AWM2 engine is exclusive to Yamaha synthesizers and offers much more than just sample playback. Each of the 16 AWM2 Parts feature eight programmable synthesizers with 18 different filter types, amplitude, pitch and filter envelope generators, nine LFOs, 3-band EQ and a dedicated dual insert effect with Virtual Circuitry Modeling.

The FM-X engine: Everything you love about the iconic DX7 meets the latest Yamaha innovations. FM-X produces classic ‘80s or cutting-edge EDM synthesizer sound with incredible dynamic range, power and fidelity. MODX+ goes well beyond the capabilities of the original DX7 with an 8-operator FM architecture, 128-note polyphony, many filter types and more. All with Motion Control for ever-evolving and changing textures to create sounds no one has ever heard before.

256-NOTE TOTAL POLYPHONY
MODX+ features 128-note stereo AWM2 polyphony and 128-notes of FM-X polyphony. Due to the unique architecture of MODX+ and MONTAGE, this polyphony is always available without latency or compromising other features.

Smart Morph enables morphing between FM-X sounds. Its sophisticated A.I. algorithm creates an interactive morphing map from up to eight FM-X sounds. You can “play” this map from the touchscreen or use the Super Knob to move between two points. The result is a staggering number of interesting and interactive new sounds.

Yamaha Synth Space History | DX1 | Dom Sigalas

video upload by Yamaha Synths Official

"In this video, Dom Sigalas explores the super rare Yamaha DX1 Synthesizer.

This FM synthesizer was introduced to the market in 1983 with no expenses spared when creating this machine with 73-key with polyphonic aftertouch. The DX1 was packed with features, including a distinct palette of new synthetic and 'authentic' sounds, six operators with thirty-two algorithms, all placed within its beautiful handmade Brazilian rosewood case. There were only 140 DX1 Synthesizers ever produced."

Mike Mareen - Love Spy (1986) Instrumental Cover

video upload by KOSmusic

"I have been wanting to recreate this beautiful Euro-Disco music for a long time and I finally managed to make it come true!! I loved 'Love Spy' of 1986 ever since I heard it for the first time (along with other great Mike Mareen songs from the 80s like 'Agent Of Liberty' and 'Dancing in the Dark', but also the 70s). Check out his official channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGpnwyllnz10CAwVbWBku9g

As is often the case, for many songs/soundtracks there is no information available on what the composers used to create these music. It is not the first time that I have relied on intuition, experience and in particular my ear to try to understand with what and how to recreate all the sounds of this track. I worked hard on each sound to try and make my version as authentic as possible. In the end I was very happy with the final result and I hope you enjoy watching this video :)

You can hear the sound of the CS1x (preset 105_Jupiter) at minute 0:15 and at minute 0:48.

Unfortunately there is no official video of the 1986 song (there is only the one created for the version "Love Spy - Reloaded 2004"), but a user here on YouTube uploaded the video with the original track of "Love Spy" and the result is great!! A little curiosity: in the video you can see 2 fantastic synths... a Roland JP-8000 and a Yamaha CS6x."

Roland JU-06A (Juno-60) + Yamaha TX7 (DX7) "MarsJam".
I am using the Korg Kronos as a sequencer & drum machine in this video.
Analog Drum Kit is coming from the Korg Kronos
Both JU-06A + TX7 are on MIDI channel 1. Simple synth layer & sequence!
Both synths give that vintage flavor without breaking the bank!
The TX7 is fantastic for having a DX7 to work with & the JU-06A
is great for having the JUNO-60 + JUNO-106 in one for the money!
I have a new meteorite I found near Rockport, Colorado on the TX7.
Hard to see thru all the space FX but you will get to see it again soon! :)"

Yamaha Sessions | Blush Response x Merlin Ettore

Published on Jan 10, 2019 Yamaha Synths Official

"Merlin Ettore and Blush Response’s collaboration sprung out of a desire to find new methods of expression in live electronics. This Yamaha session is a 100% improvised performance that bridges the gap between heavy club music, sound design, experimental noise, and mind bending poly-metric drumming.

Blush is running custom granular FM patches on the Yamaha MODX7. Other sounds are provided by a 4 voice eurorack modular. Merlin is using the Yamaha EAD10 Drum Module as a source to parallel process the direct sound of his Recording Custom."

"Yamaha YC61 Stage Keyboard Brings Classic Organ and Vintage Keys Back to the Stage

BUENA PARK, Calif. (January 9, 2020) — Yamaha today introduced the YC61 Stage Keyboard, a new organ-focused instrument combining the sought-after organ sounds of popular music with the sonic versatility and real-time control today’s keyboardists demand, all backed by legendary Yamaha quality.

Reproducing authentic organ sound, control and expressiveness in a compact package has been elusive for keyboard players. Using proprietary Yamaha technology, the YC61 provides an authentic and expressive playing experience.
The YC61 employs a newly developed Virtual Circuitry Modeling (VCM) Organ engine. VCM models the behavior of vintage electronics at the component level. This allows realistic organ character sound along with familiar and modern controls organ players will appreciate. Authenticity is further enhanced by a new VCM Rotary Speaker effect, capturing the two-speed, physically spinning speaker that’s as much a part of the organ sound as a guitar amp is to an electric guitar.

As on the original instruments, the musician has full command of the sound via drawbars, percussion, rotary speaker speed and more for an expressive and unique sound. Organ aficionados will appreciate the ability to personalize “under the hood” organ and rotary speaker settings like drawbar leakage, key click, rotor speed up and more. An all-new 61-note waterfall keyboard is true to the organ legacy and makes for smooth rock and jazz playing techniques such as “palm smears.”

The YC61 goes beyond organ sounds. Two comprehensive “Keys” sections offer authentic acoustic pianos, soulful electric pianos, realistic strings and brass, analog-style synths, and more. Dedicated effects like delay, chorus, distortion and more give keyboardists the ability to quickly create new, inspiring sounds on the fly. This means the YC61 could take the place of two or more other instruments, simplifying keyboardists’ setups and reducing load-in time.

Thanks to its aluminum construction, the YC61 is as rugged and roadworthy as it is lightweight (under 7kg/16 pounds!) and compact.

“The organ is the original keyboard, and in some ways, the original synthesizer,” said Nate Tschetter, manager, Synthesizer Marketing, Yamaha. “It always adds a soulful sound to the music, regardless of genre. We hope YC61 provides that essence of soulfulness to keyboard players through its sound and controls.”

Pricing and Availability

The Yamaha YC61 Stage Keyboard (MSRP: $2,499) will ship to retailers in June 2020. For more information, visit Yamaha.io/yc61"

Yamaha Synthesizers Launches Major OS Updates for MONTAGE, MODX and CP Stage Piano

BUENA PARK, Calif. (September 23, 2019) – Yamaha launched major operating system (OS) updates today to three Synthesizer product lines, integrating features, enhancements and content based on feedback from the community of synth artists.

As part of the larger celebration of the 45th anniversary of Yamaha Synthesizers, the company unveiled the enhanced operating systems MONTAGE OS v3.0, MODX OS v2.0 and CP OS v1.2. These new OS versions are designed to help music makers get the most out of their instrument and take inspiration from input submitted to Yamaha by users.

The flagship Yamaha synth MONTAGE gets its sixth free OS update in v3.0, a first for any Yamaha synthesizer, and its more compact counterpart MODX takes on a similar array of added features in its v2.0 OS. The biggest new feature is a pattern sequencer, ideal for creating and playback both linear songs or pattern-based arrangements with real time arrangement control. There’s also an improved synth engine, with Virtual Circuitry Modeling Mini Filter and Mini Boost effects for vintage synth-style sounds. Yamaha has also added a Wave Folder effect for adding complexity creating more experimental sounds as well as a high-speed LFO for even more creative possibilities. Improved MIDI capability with a hybrid MIDI mode makes integrating MONTAGE or MODX with MIDI gear even easier. In addition to these major new features and capabilities, MONTAGE OS v3.0 and MODX OS v2.0 both come with a collection of new Performance content created by Yamaha artists and sound designers.

OS v1.2 for the Yamaha CP stage pianos represents the second major OS upgrade for this product line. Responding to user input, Yamaha has added 30 new Voices to the CP Sub Section. The foot controller and mod lever now have more assignments and range parameters so musicians can have them work within a chosen range. Quick navigation features like LIVE SET Reset and Quick Enter have been added to streamline the CP’s interface even further.
“We constantly receive great feedback from our users,” said Nate Tschetter, product marketing manager, Yamaha Synthesizers. “It’s great to be able to realize that input with three new OS updates. We hope these new enhancements inspire more music-making with MONTAGE, MODX and CP and look forward to helping people get the most out of their instruments.”

Pricing and Availability
Yamaha MONTAGE OS v3.0 and CP OS v1.2 are currently available via free download to all MONTAGE and CP stage piano users. MODX OS v2.0 will be available via free download to all MODX users on October 25. For details see http://4wrd.it/45THOSUPDATES
