Reflex LiveLoop - Creating Slices to a Clock

Published on Sep 4, 2018 freshnelly

"The tutorial video covers making Slices (and samples) with a clock, and playing them randomly. This sounds mundane but is actually quite good when used with the original sequence (from a RIT_M in this case)

The first method is actually use Clock input to the record through ClockDiv while in Echo mode
The 2nd is to use REC T/G so steps through Rec-Echo-Play-Echo-Play etc. ( Feedback off so doesn't echo!)
The 3rd is to create 1-shot slices directly during a record only.

I hope this tutorial inspires ;)"

SDS Digital Melisma Progression Pause

Published on Feb 4, 2020 freshnelly

"This video, which was going to be the last of a tutorial nature for the Melisma module, covers Progressions and pauses. Pauses turn a simple progression sequence into a more complex iteration based on rules of pause symbols inserted into the progression steps.

This video was supposed to also cover progression reset methods but it would have made this video too long so that will be the next (and final) tutorial!"

SDS_VCO+Reflex LiveLoop

Published on Feb 7, 2017 freshnelly

"This video was created during testing of the prototype SDS_VCO (3D printed black 3HP thing) connected to a Reflex for the first time. The sound from 1 little VCO is great when feeding a synced delay!

Two sequencers are in play, the ModEM-1 as a sequencer/clock source feeding the MI Frames, then CV added to the ModEM-1 sequence. All of the Frame's outputs are offset from a 10V LFO slowly (50 seconds) cycling a sine wave.

The SDS_VCO, coming soon, is set to use the MOD input to select 16 different waveforms (13 fixed + 3 custom) giving the mix a wide range of ever changing timbres. The bottom Wave knob can offset by 16. Also the CV input is set to quantize to one of the16 scales available.

I listened to this patch for hours!"

SDS Digital Gate Crash Module! 3 Days from Concept to Completion!

Published on Aug 9, 2019 freshnelly

"This is a crazy little gate delay module I decided I needed to add to the demo rack. It won't be manufactured (probably) but I'm going to post the software and info's so anyone able can build it.
Of course if they can build this from scratch then they probably would have already done so?

Why so fast? I wanted to flex my designer muscle with a challenge and really did pull this off. It was actually only 2.5 days because I couldn't start until I was back from the mainland after noon on the second day.
OCD? Well perhaps with the features..

SO this module has 8 totally different modes:
A. 0-Dual Gate Delay Mode 3:10
B. 1-Dual Long Delay Mode 6:27
C. 2-Dual Clock Divider Mode 9:44
D. 3-Dual Gate Recorder/Looper Mode 13:43
E. 4-Logic Mode 15:33
F. 5-Dual Variable Gate Length Mode 17:41
G. 6-Dual Burst Pulse Generator 21:33
H. 7-Dual Preset Gate Sequences Mode 24:26

I had some fun with this video because it's not an actual product so could let loose a bit ha ha! I think doing the vid took longer than the module..

Enjoy"

SDS Digital - New WiFiMIDI with touchOSC, 2 SDS_VCO's, and a Reflex delay

Published on May 15, 2017 freshnelly

"Here's some basic testing of the oh-so-smooth 4096 steps of CV goodness when the WiFiMIDI connects to touchOSC on an iPhone. I just may keep all these WiFiMIDI's myself!
8 touchOSC fader-type controls can be assigned to the jacks.(plus a few others for internal stuff, clock etc) touchOSC push notes? that's a whole different thing!"

Accord Melisma-New Remote CC's!

freshnelly

"This video is about a new addition for the upcoming V.1.4

There are 5 new MIDI CC remote controls!

Root & Chord Progression windows, Inversion, Expand, and Gate override.

This allows flexibility when using Melisma's LINK in from a MIDI breakout and desktop controller what-have-you.

This also frees up assigned MIDI CC jack to control other internal or external functions and enables footswitch control of the Gate (i.e. note stretching during progressions or direct control of chords playing during no gate or progressions)

V1.4 should be out in upcoming week or two pending de-bugging and numerous other improvements and additions"

SDS Dual LFO Concept Module

Published on Jan 4, 2020 freshnelly

"This little 4HP puppy was made by me for me as part of my Skiff-Gift for Christmas! I decided to take some time off and make a portable rack for the long waits at the ferry terminals (going both ways) and the long ride across. This will keep me busy I'm sure!

The LFO is a dual variety and not super intuitive to start, but performs very well and remembers all of the settings (which is important right?)
I like the little thing!"

SDS Digital Sequarallel Sequencer Eurorack Module Tests 2

Published on Sep 4, 2019 freshnelly

Sequarallel

"This week (now the 3rd) started of with getting the Loop Markers working. I like to call them "Magic's" from when I designed the Pedal-7, so magic notes (Note #121) inserted anywhere in the longer sequences or songs become the Loop points rather than bars.

In this video the Transposing is easier because there's more time. Each Magic is 2 bars apart in the 16 bar sequence making 7 total possible. The start and end of the sequence is also used so really there's 8 loop markers.

The JumpTo quick-box (button) can be used to jump over to other loops as 0=start of sequence, 1=first marker etc. but is bar quantized still so longer loops can be escaped from to allow a "bridge" or "fill" using drumming terms, or a refrain / alternate in musical terms.
JumpTo will be in the next video as it wasn't completed at the time of shooting. ;)"

Reflex LiveLoop Flash-8 Expansion Loading and Saving

Published on Nov 22, 2016 freshnelly

"Here's the first (not great, have a cold!) video showing the Flash-8 loading and saving sessions. Live Sequences and settings can be saved as they are and will all re-load exactly (like a snap-shot).

A interesting use (pointed out to me today) would be to make a clocked sequence (or a bunch of "notes" that will become a sequence when clocked) and save it. Upon loading, a patched clock, or a MIDI clock will start the sequence playing on cue.

Might as well, all those Slices are there anyway!"

Update:

Reflex + Flash-8: Auto-Slicing Drum samples via MIDI in DAW

Published on Nov 23, 2016

"This is a really easy way to get all of the little samples into the Reflex and save them as a session. In this case drums are being sampled, fully automatically.
A RECord is started via the Record note A-1, then at each sample a SLICE note is sent(F-1). Generally this will be fine if your 'puter latency isn't too much, 6-8mS, and not advanced to the MIDI -as the next drum will start before the next Slice ends the previous-
After all samples are in, the REC button is held, (same note F-1), but longer, (about 1second), and the new Slices are played. At this point they can be saved as a session for instant loading."

SDS Digital Melisma Progressions Reset Options

Published on Feb 6, 2020 freshnelly

"The final installment of the Accord Melisma Tutorials. This one explains the usage of various ways to reset the Root and/or Chord progressions (when pulsing the CV's progressions happen)

If anyone has a suggestion for extra videos, I'll gladly make a video on the subject in question...even though I think everything covered.

Cheers!
..and thanks for watching!"

SDS_VCO+Reflex LiveLoop Jammin'

Published on Mar 28, 2017 freshnelly

"In testing and calibrating the SDS VCO's before they fly out the door, sometimes I get all carried away!

This demonstrates the SDS_VCO's MIDI output and what it does as a CV/G/T to MIDI Notes converter.

Also sequencing a PlayFX gate is dabbled with while the Reflex is in Echo mode adding "stereoization" to the VCO's mono output.

Occasionally the MI frames is run to change the root of the scale and the CV1+CV2 on the ModEm-1 Sequencer module."

SDS Digital Sequarallel Module Test Composition & Patch!

Published on Sep 10, 2019 freshnelly

"Well today I made an effort to create a decent patch to use with the Sequarallel. I wanted to include the Melisma, and I did, but it's a "dumb" connection and follows gates and bass notes to send chords to a Korg synth.
The RIT_M's are doing nothing more than acting as clock multipliers really in this.

There's a couple of SDS_VCO's and percussion modules etc but got the PWM modulation for the VCO's by recording an LFO into the Reflex LiveLoop and then playing it back at rates controlled by the same LFO but much slower. Ahhh what can be done hey?

So yeh, this is a collage of sound based around a simple trance-like composition I did in FL Studio this morning and recorded in this afternoon. It uses 3 MIDI channels and 1 Percussion channel.
Now it's trapped within the Sequarallel forever mwa ha ha ha!

It's really amazing to have this in the demo rack. I'm going to put one of the production units in my big case but the demo rack has become a legacy collection of sorts and I do so enjoy it. (Plus there's no holes like in the big one bluk!)"

SDS Digital Sequarallel 8HP MIDI2CV Sequencer Module!

Published on Aug 30, 2019 freshnelly

"Well, I'm at it again! I have long wanted a decent sequencer that uses recorded to MIDI to make sequences for modular without a computer.

It started out as a simple MIDI2CV but then my trademark "what if..." kicked in and here we are. I just had to show it off a little.

This video is rather hap-hazard and was just testing a couple of functions, Bar looping and Transposing.

In FL Studio I made a 16 bar test sequence with changes every couple of bars from 1 channel to 2, then 3 & 4 channels (and very different parts although stuck with the same key) to test the various CV-MIDI Channel modes and note-order selection (Time, Range, Cycle). That was mentioned to explain why the instruments and cadence changes so much from one bar to another.

There was also 3 program changes on channel 1, and a couple of percussion sequences.

There is only 1 VCO hooked on Gate/CV 3 here but it's pretty funky with all 4! It plays certain notes when in certain channel/order modes as you can hear in the video.

In percussion mode, where up to 12 triggers are brought to the panel, the display changes to visualize that. Note numbers are in each percussion box. Eventually the fixed notes can be set to automatically assign Jacks as they come in.

The really cool thing about this module is that the sequences are played internally, under modular clock control, just as they were recorded. So some channels may be recorded that, if not blocked, can come out of the MIDI jack, plus play when a different Channel Mode is selected (1+1+1+1, 3+1, 2+2, All 4)

This sequence has no loop points (Note#121) in the sequence or manually assigned Loop/JumpTo points so looping just defaults to inside the present bar. Even this was a lot of fun though!

This sequence took about 1% of the memory so I think it would be possible to get near 100 sequences in there.

It's a powerful little module and has been a bit of work over the past couple of weeks but now seeing results."

Sequarallel TRAX Tracker Remote MIDI CC Step Sequencer Control feature

freshnelly

"This demonstration/tutorial video covers the TRAX Tracker Remote extension for MIDI CC control on the TRAX remote MIDI Channel. This feature is different from recording notes into the tracker from a keyboard in that it's similar to traditional Sequencer control of each step.We think it's a good addition to the Sequarallel and have decided it should stay! Enjoy the video S*"

RIT_M Sequencer Tutorial 4 - CVout to CVin with 2 RIT_M's

Published on Sep 22, 2018 freshnelly

"This tutorial demonstrates patching the CV from one RIT_M to another. Because the RIT_M passes input CV to output (if input is patched) with the CV knob acting as an offset, pausing this RIT_M can act as a "melody switch" of sorts (if used with a VCO) and temporary modifications to the first RIT_M in the chain can be recorded into the second or punched in by simply tapping the Rhythm Pad.

Not covered in the video is using an external CV source on the first RIT_M, which gets even more interesting!
If you have 2 or more RIT_M's, give this a try (if you haven't already!)
I hope this video spurs some new patches with the RIT_M!"

SDS_VCO Demo

Published on Feb 11, 2017 freshnelly

"This tiny (3HP) VCO has 16 waveforms, 3 of them customizable, 1 of them recorded, and a built in envelope gen + VCA. The MOD input is phase and/or PWM in various waveforms. It can also be used to offset waveform selection and/or quantization scales (16)

Finally a face panel design is in place, thus the demo video, and production will start shortly.

I think this will make a lot of people happy, and since the price will be only $99 to $120 depending on total costs, it won't put much of a dent in the pocketbook as well as the rack."

Reflex LiveLoop - SGS Live Reversing!

Published on May 18, 2017 freshnelly

"Here's a long delayed (excuse the pun!) video on using SGS (SLice groove sequencer) to do a live reverse.

If you're accustomed to using the SGS feature of the Reflex then this will be easy for you! If not, better look at the manual first.

The idea is to record a single loop in R/P mode, which will also create a single Slice.

That Slice is then hand played as a simple SGS being cohesive to the original loop's "beat" or length.
(This can also be done with a clock on SGS etc etc, but by hand is so much more fun and quick to do!)

Now the SGS is playing the single slice (as a groove ..or not) with the song or track still playing into the Reflex, hit the Record button to start recording inside the SGS loop area.

Your SGS sequence will be updated with the new recording, and as long as the tempo is still the same, it'll sound great!

Now try reverse on PlayFX STart/End knobs and voila! Live reverse, in sync, and on time."
