"The Grp Synthesizer A4 is a direct descendent of the flagship A8, providing the same analog sonic power and flexibility at a fraction the price. Ideal for everything from smooth Minimoog-like leads to distorted, tearing bassline sequences, the A4 is equipped and ready.

"A little great analog synthesizer with all the Grp heritage of sound and capabilities. Wide 8 vertical space in 5U format or, if you prefer, optionally rack mountable, with a wooden sided dedicated cabinet, the Grp A2 Analog Synthesizer has MIDI In and Analog CV/Gate connections. It offers two big oscillators with the classic analog waveforms , from Grp, Plus Super Saw and Super Triangle; the great 12dB/Oct ; Grp State Variable Filter, one Ring Modulator (have you ever tried to ring modulate a 9-components Super Saw?), One Noise Generator, one Amplifier, one Master Out section with a couple of gorgeous analog Vumeters. There are a couple of Envelope Generators, the Filter-dedicated one with Looping capabilities as on big Grp A4 Synth and a couple of LFOs/Modulation Routings. The on board Arpeggiator can be clocked by Internal Clock, ExternalAnalog Clock or MIDI Clock; easy and fun, it's a breeze to use. Grp A2 Analog Synthesizer is built like a tank. But is far more dangerous."

GRP & ARP

coyotesynth

"Short and straightforward electro track demonstrating the ARP2600FS, the GRP Synth A4 and the Analog Rytm Mk1.

All synths/drumbox are processed through the ARP2600FS (the AR being overdriven by the ARP preamp). Sequenced by the GRP A4 sequencer.

Not any single outboard FX, nor plug-in used. What you hear is what comes from the ARP2600FS, because summing is done within the ARP2600FS."

Grp Synthesizer A4 | Kid Gloves

Alex Ball

"The Grp Synthesizer A4 is an Italian analogue synthesizer originally released in 2012.

Combining classic subtractive synthesis with modern desires, it's got pretty tasty spec.

To save the longest video description ever, here's a link to Theo Bloderer's comprehensive breakdown: https://greatsynthesizers.com/en/revi...

In this video I tried to make use of the A4's architecture, whilst keeping things musical. It's very easy with this much power at your fingertips to overcook it and just make either a sonic mess, or a sound that only works in isolation. Hopefully I've struck the balance.

Examples of things I did:
Dual sequence utilising the playback and step repeat modes. I sequenced some chords in one section with oscillator 1 + 2 (tuned a fifth apart) following sequencer A and oscillator 3 following sequencer B.

For the lead sound I also used the sequencer as a modulation source sent to phase synched oscillators and the filters that also had its tempo CV'd from an envelope so that it sped up and down rollercoaster style.

I ran my Juno through the A4 via the external signal in and envelope follower. This allowed me to control the A4 from the Juno, but have the dual A4 filters on it. I also tuned in two of the A4's oscillators to complimentary intervals and they were coming through with the Juno every time it gated the synth.

The main riff was a blend of three oscillators and the ring modulator with a combination of linear and exponential modulation and oscillator sync.

There were also various stereo bass sounds - subby and round, sharp and phat, and driven and heavy. The distortion comes from the synth itself.

I also made some floaty, trippy sounds with the A4 in the middle eight, as well as various FX.

Hopefully this all gives a glimpse into what it can do.

Gear used:
Grp A4 (2012)
Arturia KeyStep Pro (2020)
Arturia MicroFreak (2019)

Vermona'14 solo, GRP A4 Sequence

Published on Apr 13, 2020 coyotesynth

"This video is a short teaser of the forthcoming album made by Fabien Labonde, album in which I did those 2 short contributions, as many other musicians.

Vermona'14 is a great and expressive analog monosynth, with many modulations (filter on modwheel, vibrato on aftertouch, great keyboard action). When Fabien asked me for a solo on this track, it was obvious the Vermona'14 would be the one to make it.

GRP A4 is used on a bass sequence later in the track.

Please note this is still under progress, it still miss real drums and other instruments, but what you hear are the final takes from my side."

GRP A2 Analog Monosynth w/ VU Meters

"IMHO, this is the best bits of the larger A4 with some changes to the oscillators to give them a better, less static sounding core. I always felt the A4 oscillators were a bit stiff and lifeless whereas the A2 oscillators sing and bounce more. The oscillators have a lot of Frequency Modulation (FM) sources and you can put Oscillator 2 in drone mode (disconnected from the pitch/MIDI info) and then modulate it to create some other-worldly soundscapes.

Add in the awesome State Variable Filter with overdrive/distortion, LFOs, envelopes, and Arpeggiator and you have a machine that gives you a lot of possibilities.

The main/filter envelope can loop and the second envelope can be set to Hold, which opens it up for drones or when you're doing initial tuning.

The Ring Mod and Sample and Hold sections are a nice addition and of course you can use MIDI or cv/gate to control it.

Plus, who doesn't love watching a pair of lighted VU meters dancing around to the music?

If you're looking for a beefy monosynth with some surprises, the A2 is worth checking out."
