Mini Korg DS10 Review

via Horton on the AH list:
"I finally got a copy of the Korg DS-10, and it's outstanding. I'm actually surprised at what a great job they did across the board with every last element of design and execution. First off, the thing is INSANELY ergonomic - there's an almost magical logic and intuitive workflow that comes with holding the DS in your hand and using the shoulder buttons to toggle between the different modules while interacting with them using the pen and touchscreen. It's simply something that has not yet been accomplished using any sort of mouse-driven software synthesizer or sequencer, and it is truly inspiring - I made three COMPLETE songs in the first hour or so, including building all sounds from scratch. I was most impressed by the drum section - each of the four individual drum voices (programmed xox-style on a 16-step grid) is COMPLETELY editable using the same entire MS-10 synth engine that's used for the two melodic synthesizers, patch cables and all. So the end result is basically like having 6 ms-10's sitting on a table, with a mixer, effects, two KAOSS pads, and six 16-step sequencers to control them. For every element that I thought the designer would (justifiably) skimp on, like effects routing, I discover that they actually went one step further.

I could go on about it all day, but for $40, it's an insane deal. I've actually made a google group for discussion if anyone wants to join - Outstanding!"

Union Square [Continuous Mix] // KORG DS10+

YouTube Published on Aug 13, 2012 by sirokai

"My latest EP, 3 tracks made with KORG DS10+, mixed DJ-style into a 12 minute dance adventure. If you like classic house / techno, then you might like this.

Tracklist:
0:00 Get Funky
3:30 Union Square
7:37 Minimize Me

"For my 27th birthday I figured I should celebrate the spirit of giving by giving away my music. So here is my latest EP, a continuous mix I did in the style of Henry Homesweet's Lo-Bit Bassment sessions. These tracks were written during a short period of intense inspiration while traveling across the country: "Get Funky" was written on train rides between Princeton and New York City, "Union Square" was written on location in Union Square Park and in other parts of New York City, and "Minimize Me" was written while on a flight bound for Seattle. Altogether these songs were written in order, "stream of consciousness" style across multiple DS10 song banks, and were recorded as a continuous mix. You are hearing them as they were meant to be heard.

I first decided to explore the idea of a classic house / techno style mix as a way of "getting back to my musical roots" while still maintaining my obsession with bass. This was also partially inspired by Jenn de la Vega's performance at the 2012 Blip Festival Open Mic; her track was a clear reminder of what can be accomplished with the classic analog sound of the KORG DS10. I should also mention that this release would not have been possible without D A Payne's Drum Kit loosely based on the sounds of the 808, which is as cool as the title suggests and was used heavily in writing these songs. I hope to release more mixes like this in the future, as soon as inspiration strikes again. Thanks for listening. If you like what you hear, all I ask is that you share this with your friends.

KORG DS-10 Demo 12

YouTube via karenevil
"I just made a Violin like tone and trying to play with it. Digital reverb is used to be adding a concert hall like effect.

This tune is "Kinjirareta Asobi" by ALI-PRO for the opening theme of TV Anime Rozen-Maiden.
I'm not a kind of a man such as "Anime Otaku" or something but I think this tune is very fantastic and I like it."

KORG DS10 DSi Version?

via Tony:
"I’ve just had a look at the AQ interactive site, as I was wondering if there was any prospect of the Korg DS-10 being developed further.

Although there is only a single picture (I can’t find a link beyond this point), It’s noticeable that it’s running on the new DSi model and the screen on display isn’t one that’s part of the original program; or at least that’s one I’m not familiar with?"

It looks like the Song screen with labels for the parts. I can't seem to find this exact screen myself. Anyone with a DS10 out there that can confirm either way?

Chain0 - KORG DS10 Track

"Written February 2009 for the RPM Challenge. Korg DS-10."

more details
"Stuff you can listen for in this song are a lot of FM (both filter FM and oscillator FM), a very short delay effect (used kind of like a spatial comb filter), 4 custom percussion sounds (my Nord Lead percussion programming experience pays off big time with DS-10, by the way), and a good amount of filter and FM modulation via the Kaoss sequencer tracks."

You can find another track by Ascdi featuring the DS10 here.

8-Bit Egypt

via Kitsunexus

"I recently got a DS Lite, and of course the first thing I HAD TO HAVE was KORG DS-10, it's utterly AMAZING! Here's just a little song I made getting used to it, it's nothing fancy, but I like it. :3

8-Bit Egypt

If you have a DS, there's NO REASON you shouldn't own DS10! It's powerful and easy, like if you can design sounds on an analog synth and you have used a piano roll sequencer before, then you don't even need the manual! ALL HAIL KORG AND AQ SOFTWARE! (And XSEED for bringing it to USA!)"

"March 18, 2012, is the video introduction of KORG M01 Corner experience was held at the Arena at Kawasaki Todoroki "Youth Festival" Kawasaki City, was held under the auspices of the Federation's children, Kanagawa Prefecture."

The gentleman in the beginning is Nobuyoshi Sano, the man that created the DS10 and M01. Via Wikipedia:

"Nobuyoshi Sano (佐野 信義 Sano Nobuyoshi?, born January 19, 1969) is a Japanese video game composer, musician and record producer most famous for scoring some songs for Ridge Racer and Tekken series, most notably Tekken 3, where he composed most of the soundtrack. He worked for Namco and Cavia, he actually works for the company Detune, he designed and produced (his first work as producer) the music software KORG DS-10 for Nintendo DS.[1] The band Trio the DS-10 was formed consisting of himself, Yasunori Mitsuda and Michio Okamiya for the promotion of the video game.[2] He also composed the theme of Tokyo Café for the French TV channel Nolife. He cited Underworld and Yellow Magic Orchestra as his favorite musical bands. This led to him becoming a member of "Oriental Magnetic Yellow" (OMY), a music band that parodied Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) and produced parody cover versions of their music.[3] Some of his music has been featured in the Beatmania IIDX series of video games."

BLIPTRONIC 5000 & KAOSS vs AURORA vs DS10 Plus - Casual Ambient Cafe Jam

YouTube via VJFranzK
"Testing out the Bliptronic 5000 with a Mini Kaoss Pad for effects, vs two newly released gadget based soft synths - KORG DS10 Plus ( on Nintendo DSi) and Aurora ( on Windows Mobile Smartphone ) - just a casual jam set up on a table at the cafe, but the people, at first skeptical at the few beeps that begun it were won over by this Tenori esque soundscape."
