FINALLY! E-MU Morpheus Z-Plane Synthesizer Tutorial!!!

Published on Apr 5, 2019 Ran Jurgenson

"A video introduction to the E-MU Morpheus vintage synthesizer.
RARE VHS TAPE RIP.
N'jOY :)"

If I could give a post of the day award, this would be it. I believe this is the first time this has popped up anywhere. You can find some great demos of the E-Mu Morpheus in the archives, but not the official E-Mu VHS. BTW, creating a new VHS label for these. If you see any older official VHS video posts let me know and I'll add the label.

Update: here's an image of the VHS from a previous listing.

MINISTRY 'Same Old Madness' 1982 (unreleased track pre-'With Sympathy')

Uploaded on Feb 2, 2012

Moog Opus 3 for strings, Moog The Source for solo sounds. Vocals remind me of early Cure & the sequence reminds me of Spandau Ballet's To Cut a Long Story Short (see if you can ID the synth below).

This one in via El Estereo on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge, via Dangerous Minds here you'll find where you'll find an article on early Ministry. Cleopatra Records is coming out with an expanded reissue of Ministry’s Twelve Inch Singles 1981-1984 collection.

Video description:
"Same Old Madness - Unreleased single and video from 1982. Originally intended to be a single in the spring of 82. Video was shot before Al signed to Arista. I remastered the audio in attempting to get highest quality of this video out there. I got it dubbed onto VHS in 1997 by a really good video collector who had a access to a pristine copy, that i took special care of myself and rarely played. Needless to say, i knew how much of fucking gem this video is. From my personal VHS archive of rare Goth & Industrial music videos and live performances. Archived and circulated through years VHS tape trading and Video collecting."

Update via peahix:

"This isn't a demo VHS tape from 1978. It's stolen from my own MC8 demo video, the original of which you can see here [embed below]

The music on my original video was replaced with a piece of music by Ralph Dyck taken from my MC8 blog"

Roland MC-8 Factory Demo Program - Bach Invention #1

Published on Feb 1, 2010 peahix

"This is another of the demo programs provided in the Roland MC-8 manual. This time it's a Bach Invention, played back on a Roland SH-101 synth (not seen in the video). The first part of the video is specifically designed to bore you with stunning footage of me entering the channel 1 CV data for the first 3 pages of the 10-page score. Be thankful that I didn't decide to include the entire CV/Step/Gate data entry process for the entire score. In the 2nd part of the video, you hear the entire mixed piece, played back in sync with the MC-8 displaying the CV data for channel 1.

After posting this video, I was informed that Yellow Magic Orchestra featured this very same demo at the very end of the show during their 1980 world tour. You can hear their version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1qocP...

The Perfect Pad | Twin Peaks Breakdown w/Roland JX-8P, Juno-106 & Jupiter-8

video by Espen Kraft

"The best music to any TV-series in my opinion. Only rivalled by the Miami Vice soundtrack. The synthesizers used in this video are Roland JX-8P, Juno-106 and Jupiter-8. And a touch of Alpha Juno 2 that does the signature bass line in the climax, it's mixed pretty low though.

I've made a version that is not a note for note copy of the beautiful Angelo Badalamenti original, but a free interpretation of how I remember it.
It's also a Roland fest, where I use no other synths than the JX-8P, which is also used for the pad/strings in the original (MKS-70 though), the Roland Juno-106 for the muted bells in the build up and the Jupiter-8 for the bass/piano and solo, but I use the arpeggio and play the arpeggio in a slightly off-beat way, which I show.
All played and recorded by hand, no MIDI involved except for sending a clock pulse to trigger the arp of the Jupiter-8. This comes from the DAW as MIDI and is converted in a Doepfer MSY2 that converts it to a clock/trigger pulse feeding the Jupiter-8.

The first 3 minutes are filmed with a Panasonic M7 VHS camera from 1987 and ripped over to the computer. The edit is done in Premiere Pro. All my demo songs with videos will be shot on VHS from now on. Mostly. Tutorials and breakdowns will still be in HD or half HD. I don't own any 4K cameras nor do I feel I need it. My videos will not be optimized for mobile phones in the near future either. I recommend watching my VHS videos on a CRT monitor. ;-)"

Flower Electronics Little Boy Blue Deluxe

via this auction Close-up of the control sheet below. "The Flower Electronics Little Boy Blue Deluxe is a boutique synthesizer made by musician/sound artist Jessica Rylan. It was made in a limited edition, I purchased mine in 2006, and is no longer available from the manufacturer (i.e. pretty rare/collectable). Details are archived here - http://flowerelectronics.com/Deluxe.html Features: 2 voltage controlled oscillators, manual and voltage control of oscillator wave shapes, 1/4" input with variable gain, envelope follower with optional inverter, 2 channel mixer, intermodulating output stage, stylish oiled fir case LBB Deluxe runs on 2 9v batteries (supplied). Current drain is low, typically offering 50+ hours of battery life. The circuitry is hand-built with premium parts, using discrete transistors, no chips. Instruments are supplied with a set of banana cables for patching. Input and output are via standard 1/4" connectors. Output is a hot line level, for extra buzz. I have used this extensively for shows and recordings with the bands The Failed NASA Experiment, Black Stepdad, Lustfaust, Yajé, Evils, Fredrick Stanley Star and The (plexus) Collective. What that means is that whilst it has been well used it is really, really, really well built and has never failed. It is still in full working order and sounds as wicked as the day it was first bought. It has suffered a few scuffs and dents along the way and I have documented these in the pictures above to the best of my ability and these haven't affected the functionality at all. There are some sound samples on this page - http://flowerelectronics.com/Standard.html Here are some various videos to give you an idea of seeing it in action with other equipment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fET6naTUrfc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42SpcCP8a5w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC0Gz4PYndU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJz1KMg8BDc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfakMBKEag8 So it's a noisy little bugger ideally suited for power electronics, ambient noise and experiment scunge etc. It's great for effecting vocals/guitars/keys/etc or as a standalone sound/chaos generator. This (long and heavy going) VHS improv I did for Bang the Bore utilises the LBB Deluxe quite extensively - http://vimeo.com/21620771" [embed below]

Official Alesis Andromeda A6 Introduction Video (Synth Demo Promotional Reel) - VHS Source Copy

video upload by OldManZero

"I came across this old VHS that had an "introduction video" for the Alesis Andromeda synthesizer. The quality is OK, but there may be better sources out there as my copy was re-used. Under the labels for the promotional video, you can see that the tape was originally an Alesis Masterlink demo video. They just copied over it and added new labels.

The full video had this segment repeated over and over again for about an hour. I guess this was to play on screens at trade shows or music stores to drum up interest.

The demo sounds don't really hold up to today's standards or to what the A6 can actually do, but Alesis seemed to want to cater to the more upscale client that could actually afford the $3K price tag when it was released. (Think studio or session players.). So the sounds shown seem to cater to them. You do seem to hear a few snippets of actual crazy Andromeda sounds here and there though. What you see and hear here is peak late '90's/early 00's through and through."
