Casio CZ-1 Phase Distortion Synthesizer Preset Patch Demo

YouTube via zibbybone
"Just a basic demo of the factory sounds. Be sure to add &fmt=18 at end of URL for stereo sound since this synth features stereo chorus which I engage on a few sounds, but most are "dry". I use a Roland Fantom X6's arpeggiator via MIDI IN on a few sounds. At the end, I demonstrate the layering and split features. I filmed this video earlier this year, but it was too long for YouTube. Special thanks to my son, SuperSane101, for editing it down."

October 15, 2008 Jupiter 8 Update

YouTube via zibbybone
"My tech said the Jupe 8 was ready - all calibrate and Encore MIDI kit installed. This thing sounds amazing, but the VCA for 4 voices is not right. You can tell that 4 trigger with instant attack, but the other 4 have slower attacks."

Roland TR-707 & TR-909 Ride and Crash Cymbals

YouTube via zibbybone — April 09, 2010 — "There's a bit of debate whether or not the 707's cymbals are the same as on the 909. I did my best to match the pitch of the 909's cymbals to the 707. 909 is in left channel, 707 in right.
You be the judge."

Having Fun with Electrix Filter Factory and MoFX

Published on Dec 8, 2013 zibbybone·138 videos

"Almost finished setting up my "electro rig" which features these classic, but inexpensive effect units from Electrix. One fun thing to do with the MoFX is turning the delay feedback to 100% and 'sampling' a measure of a beat and manipulating that sample with the delay time. Be sure to listen with headphones if you've got them handy and hear the 'ping pong' delay!"

Linn 9000 Demo

YouTube via zibbybone | November 05, 2010

"Demonstration of factory sounds and drum pattern creation. One of the coolest features of the Linn 900 is the Hi Hat Decay slider. Instad of having seperate open and closed hi hat buttons, you can use the slider the same way a real drummer would operate the hi hat pedal allowing you to get any sound between open and closed AND record it into your pattern."

Second Annual Dallas Synth Meet 10/23/11

YouTube Uploaded by zibbybone on Oct 24, 2011

"I hosted another synth meet at my furniture shop and we had a decent turn-out. Mostly familiar faces, but it was great to see some new faces. If you're gear is featured here and you've got a video of it, let me know and I'll post a link. Thanks to everyone that came, hope to see you next time!"

Not to be confused with the Dallas Fort Worth DIY Synth Event of 2008. Anyone know what happened to that event?

Akai AX60 Waveforms and Pulse Width Modulation

Published on May 12, 2013 zibbybone·116 videos

"In addition to basic waveforms: saw, triangle and square, there is a saw/square combination wave. Pulse width modulation is also available on all of these waveforms for an interesting effect. I'm pretty sure the AX60 is the only synth with this feature. Feel free to comment if you know of other synths with this capability."

Akai Tom Cat First Tweak

Published on Nov 3, 2016 zibbybone

"Musician's Friend offered the Akai Tom Cat for $100 as their 'Stupid Deal of the Day' the other day. I figured 'why not' and it didn't disappoint. The kick is pretty aggressive. Some of the knobs don't seem to have any effect, though I haven't RTFM yet. It would have been nice to have individual outs, but it's a solidly built machine. Super slim."

Nord Drum 2 as Polyphonic Synth Module

Published on Sep 8, 2018 zibbybone

"Upon arriving to KnobCon 7, my friend Winston showed me that he was able to turn the ND2 into a polysynth by using a MIDIBro in the data flow. Each voice of the ND2 is on their own MIDI channel and the MIDIBro merges them together.
So I went back to my room and grabbed my MiniBrute to use as a MIDI keyboard controller and decided to do a little improve while he tweaked the ND2's parameters via his Digitakt."

Using a Roland TR-909 as a MIDI Sequencer

TR-909 External Instrument Demo
Published on Apr 23, 2013 zibbybone·114 videos

"Here's a video I filmed an edited 3 years ago and never got around to uploading. In addition to programming rhythms with the 909's built-in drum sounds, you can also program rhythms on external MIDI gear. You can select any MIDI channel and program a pattern using MIDI notes 36 through 51 (the lowest C on a 61 note keyboard to D# an octave above. I start by programming a synth bass part (Roland Jupiter 6). Then, I add a simple drum pattern to it. Next, I move over to a second 909 and program a 2 bar pattern of chord stabs (Roland JD-800). I have to transpose the oscillators up a couple of octaves in order for this to work. Lastly, I program alternate drum notes on the 2nd 909 then hard pan the 2 drum machines for a stereo panning effect. During the filming, I accidently put the Sony VX-2000 into its "Demo Mode" which showcases some of the camera's built-in digital visual effects."

Roland Jupiter 4 Synced to Korg MonoTribe

Published on Apr 12, 2013 zibbybone·112 videos

"Like many of us, a fellow VSEr is excited about the new line of Korg Volca machines and wondered if their sync output will trigger the arpeggiator on his Jupiter 6. My JP-6 is currently being serviced, so I offered to test the sync out of my MonoTribe on my JP-4. Here is the result. Tape echo effect supplied by Strymon TimeLine and its dTape mode.

On another note, I have pre-ordered all 3 Volca machines and will certainly post a video (or more) once they arrive. Be sure to subscribe to be notified of future videos of (mostly vintage) electronic musical instruments."

Auditioning the Roland System 1 Synthesizer

Published on Jul 23, 2014 zibbybone

"Had some time to kill today, so I thought I'd check out the System 1 at my local music shop. I brought my Zoom Q4HD along and shot this short video before I was interrupted by a phone call. I did spend more time with the synth before shooting the video, but not enough to make a proper opinion. So far, it doesn't seem to do any more than my SH-01 Gaia. This particular System 1 did not have anything loaded into the 'Plug Out' section."
