weekend chaos?

YouTube via snazelle
"i believe this is a chaotic oscillator i discovered this weekend
if people are interested maybe i can make a board available. this oscillator is highly controllable and almost all control positions seem to create areas of interest. also when fed into something like ian' fritz's wonderful T/G/T/S/H it can drive a vco and the "melodies" seem to be almost endless."

Thomas Henry's "Noise Generator Cookbook" Now Available

via Tim Servo on this electro-music.com thread:

"Magic Smoke Electronics has just put the finishing touches on another Thomas Henry book. "The Noise Generator Cookbook" includes analog and digital approaches to noise generation, along with plenty of info and theory to chew on. You can check out a preview and order any of our Thomas Henry books at: www.lulu.com/magsmoke"

A screaming theme

YouTube via attorks

"A simple single 8 step sequence (c4 f3 c#4 f#3 f4 d3 c4 g3, tempo 80) drives the Synthesizers.com Modular. The Q150 transistor ladder filter is modulated with 2 MFM VCO's running a high frequency square wave on the 2 seperate frequency inputs on the Q150. SynthStrings are performed on the Clavia Nord Lead 1 (Chords Fm C Bbm Dm). The improvised screaming solo is performed by the Waldorf Q Keyboard. The Korg 900PS solo's are just the opposite of the Q's solo."

Frisco Audio Technology

via this auction
"The ABC-1 has four knobs; Input Volume / Gain, Sample Rate, Bit Depth and Output Volume. It also features input control jacks for controlling the Sample Rate and Bit Depth parameters via CV or Expression pedal. Furthermore it has true bypass and can be run from a single 9V battery or a BOSS-compatible DC wall wart (center negative).

For detailed technical information, sounds and video, please go to our website.

From the ABC-1 manual:
The ABC-1, FAT Advanced Bit Crusher, is a device with many voices whose purpose is to transport us back in time to the birth of digital music, it will effectively give any audio plugged into it the distinct sound of 8 bits or less and of low sample rates. The ABC-1 is not designed to make your music sound melodious, pretty, or sweet, but in fact it's aural intentions are quite the opposite!

The effects produced by the ABC-1 are not limited to a single expression but range from howling mad distortions to ring modulator like sounds; and from murky, digital thunder to a shimmer of digital artifacts. By utilizing the Advanced Bit Crusher’s on-board Sample Rate Control and Bit Depth Control inputs the variations are practically endless, whether in live performance or in the studio. The control inputs can be connected either to an expression pedal or a CV (Control Voltage) source, the latter allowing for things like sequenced bit depth etc.

The Advanced Bit Crusher will not only work its magic effects on audio, but in fact can be applied to any small-signal voltage, including Control Voltages (CV). As a Control Voltage-processor, the ABC-1 produces numerous effects not unlike those of quantizers, random-voltage generators, and sample-and-hold effects.

The bit discrimination circuitry in the ABC-1 is quite different from other similar effects in that that bits can be turned down in volume rather then just turned on or off, the ABC-1 produces a totally unique sound due to this."

OCEAN ORBIT - DVD

YouTube via lastfastando.
"DVD with dmitry on vocoder. My friend Rehmat in NYC and I came up with this while talking about crazy NYC street vendors trying to sell DVD's and shouting out deals to to people"

via Mr. Array
"I'm the dancing fool behind the laptop, manning the vocoder and Traktor. My buddy Andy is on live synth, including an NES running a MIDINES cart! For live vocoding we use the Electro Harmonix Voice Box, which we got after seeing it on your site :-D

A lot of the interesting synth stuff is happening on the backing tracks. There's a lot of Andromeda on "DVD", for instance. "Wily Dragon" has a lot of MIDINES which is both being played live and on the backing track.

On the myspace page, the Forces cover has some Waldorf XT on it. Most of the tracks have at least some Yamaha Mo6 on them (which isn't all that exciting, haha). There's a new song which we hope to put up soon which uses nothing but the Waldorf XT, Andromeda, and MIDINES.

I haven't taken any of my synths out to live gigs yet, but I did just get a SID Station, which I hope to perform live with eventually. Mainly we're just trying to prevent having too much heavy gear to lug around. The pieces that do make it to live sets are the Motif Mo6 and the MIDINES, both of which are very light.

I posted a clip of the new SID Station here:

http://8bitcollective.com/music/Ocean+Orbit/Driving+at+90bpm+(SID+Station)/

We also have more tunes up here:

http://www.myspace.com/oceanorbit

We don't haven't put all of our tracks up on myspace yet though, as we're working with friends to get our vocals recorded and properly mixed (which is also why none of the songs on myspace have vocals as of yet)."
