Resonations

Resonations from bar|none on Vimeo.

Soundplane + KYMA playing a model of a resonating string instrument. What instrument? Something unknown but wonderful and expressive.

Imaginary instruments are the world that is KYMA.

The sound is a resonation synth that models initial attack and picking of a string + the resonations and feedback associated with a resonating instrument body. More pressure means more feedback and energy into the resonations.

Spent some time with this sound to make it respond properly with the soundplane.
Faster hits and you hear the picking. Vibrato and you hear the scraping on the strings.

I can't tell you how this feels to play but I can say that you forget this is a controller and it feels like playing something tactile like a real instrument.

This uses the Madronalabs Soundplane to send OSC to KYMA directly via ethernet, no MIDI here. The soundplane client supports zeroconf discovery of OSC capable devices, so KYMA pacarana appears as an OSC destination and that is all required to connect the two. Symbolic Sound helped with the integration.

The result is very high resolution control of the sound that you can feel as you play the Soundplane.

Adventure Time End Credits Song Cover Christmas Island

YouTube Published on Jul 31, 2012 by PrincessPangolin

"My cover of The Adventure Time end credits song, Christmas Island, originally by Ashley Eriksson. These are my best adventuring pals Spooky and Polly. Polly recently started playing the piano, and it's tops blooby."

Anyone ID the organ with built in rhythm section? Omnichord gets a label in this one as well, so I'm assuming they are the higher octave strummed chords.

Update via The Analog Lab in the comments: "The organ is an Optigan!"

"For your consideration is this vintage Keio Synthesizer Traveler "Singing Geisha" wah/fuzz/synth effects pedal. This particular example, serial number 720147, is in very excellent all original condition. It works perfectly, sounds incredibly interesting, and with some familiarity, it becomes a very expressive and completely unique voice. With 4 separate volume/blend knobs related to different features of the pedal along with a traditional wah-style foot-operated pitch control, and 2 stomp switches, the pedal is actually incredibly versatile. The singing tone is not reminiscent of the "siren" feature of concurrent Shin-Ei units, and as mentioned, the pitch of which can actually be controlled, producing a pleasant theremin-esque synth sound."

"This model has been cleaned of any previous battery leakage and has had a new lithium ion battery professionally installed. It will keep your patches intact perfectly for decades and will not destroy your motherboard as many of these have had problems."

Anyone know if these are known to leak like the KORG Polysix?

Music Yamaha SY85 Korg Kaoss Pad Effects Improv

YouTube Published on Jul 31, 2012 by musicgearvideos909

"Music video improvisation on a Yamaha SY85 with Korg Kaoss Pad (mini-KP) effects. Using the HOLD button on the Koass this is another way of connecting music gear together rather simply. If there is interest I might show how to connect the devices together and recording the audio. In this case I record to a Zoom H2n."

Ucreate Music by Mattel: Loop Mangling FUN!

YouTube Published on Jul 31, 2012 by coloringpad

You can still find these on eBay.

"Great loop mangling toy! Don't sleep!

At the risk of the wrath of the internet...

Here's an open letter to MATTEL:

To Mattel and the makers of the Ucreate Music,

What this device can do is pretty amazing. It has limitations, but essentially you have created a sound mangling device that, in all its lo-fi deliciousness, is fun and engaging for musicians to play with and use as an audio effect. The effects section goes deeper than what I would expect from any kids toy. It reminds me of the Casio SK-1, in that it was an innovative sampling tool with potential, and clearly made its mark after production. I know you have discontinued the software support for this product and stopped producing the Ucreate, and that's fine. There are really good ideas within the concept, and I publicly plead with you to consider them for a future, more advanced product design.

Here we go!

Effects
KEEP: 2 Loop Mangling Effects, Delay. Further enhance & deepen Filter, Phaser, Flanger
LOSE: Distortion, Tremolo Pulse
ADD: Pitch change, robot effects, glitch

Loops
KEEP: Sampling, Looping, uploading loops
LOSE: Preloaded samples, make all banks for samples, disable restrictions on file format.
ADD: 4 More Sample A/B banks

Controls
KEEP: Record button, hold button, mic/line button
REPLACE: Tempo up/down with sweepable knob, move volume knob to top, change joystick bulb to joystick?

Ins/Outs
KEEP: 1/8" stereo jacks will do, most musicians will want ¼"

Materials
Go aluminum.

Like this video if you would buy this product with the suggestions I have made above.

Bought this for two dollars on clearance. Having been looking for one for a couple years, I was very lucky to run across it."
