Single synth demo - Xils-Lab PolyKB II

Single synth demo - Xils-Lab PolyKB II (all sounds inc. drums from PolyKB II) by SYNTHDemo

"All sounds including all drums from Xils-Lab PolyKB II

Definitely a very organic sounding synth with a huge Moog style sound, I think the 808 kick is the hugest I've ever managed to synthesise - it only uses the filter set on full self-oscillation.

I always try and avoid the "it sounds just like analog" comparisons but this synth is patently designed to replicate one very specific and very analog synth so this time I think it's appropriate. Check out the lead near the end, that's one very "analog" sound.

Haven't really made heavy use of the Oscillator continuous waveform morphing, the sequencer or the innovative DynaMYX/PolyMYX in this track but these are well worth investigating if you get your hands on the demo. I'd recommend reading the pretty decent manual to help you figure these sections out.

Only a light treatment with a compressor on the master and a touch of reverb on a few tracks - otherwise what you hear is what you can expect from the PolyKB.

Click through for more pics. When you get there click on the numbers for each. Pictured here you can see his mighty Yamaha CS80, a Sequential Circuits Prophet-10, what looks like a Fairlight CMI Monitor (turns out it isn't - see the comments in this post), a Simmons V drum rack with pad triggers, and I'm not sure what the SEM looking box is. I thought it might be one of his custom preset boxes pictured here, but it clearly is not. If anyone knows, feel free to comment.

Update via the comments: "The SEM-looking box on top of the 19" rack is the controller (LARC) for a Lexicon 224 reverb unit."

"For my 27th birthday I figured I should celebrate the spirit of giving by giving away my music. So here is my latest EP, a continuous mix I did in the style of Henry Homesweet's Lo-Bit Bassment sessions. These tracks were written during a short period of intense inspiration while traveling across the country: "Get Funky" was written on train rides between Princeton and New York City, "Union Square" was written on location in Union Square Park and in other parts of New York City, and "Minimize Me" was written while on a flight bound for Seattle. Altogether these songs were written in order, "stream of consciousness" style across multiple DS10 song banks, and were recorded as a continuous mix. You are hearing them as they were meant to be heard.

I first decided to explore the idea of a classic house / techno style mix as a way of "getting back to my musical roots" while still maintaining my obsession with bass. This was also partially inspired by Jenn de la Vega's performance at the 2012 Blip Festival Open Mic; her track was a clear reminder of what can be accomplished with the classic analog sound of the KORG DS10. I should also mention that this release would not have been possible without D A Payne's Drum Kit loosely based on the sounds of the 808, which is as cool as the title suggests and was used heavily in writing these songs. I hope to release more mixes like this in the future, as soon as inspiration strikes again. Thanks for listening. If you like what you hear, all I ask is that you share this with your friends.

"We have had this original Moog ribbon controller for some time but just aren't using it anymore. The plug is the same multi-prong kind used by the keyboard that inserts into the back of the synth. While it works it is showing its age with some scratches, fading and wear spots as depicted. Most likely for Moog completists only."

Working HAMMOND NOVACHORD For Auction

See the seller's other items for some other interesting instruments.
Be sure to read the full description as always. Working in this case means it actually plays which is extremely rare for these. See the Novachord label at the bottom of this post for more including the Novachord Restoration project by Phil Cirocco who is known for his own modular systems and work on ARP synthesizers including restoration and the ARP Lumina upgrades.

Description via the auction: "The introduction of the Hammond Novachord, the world's first polyphonic synthesizer, at the 1939 World's Fair is a major milestone in electronic keyboard musical instrument history. With over 100 vacuum tubes inside, this synthesizer has a thick, harmonically rich sound that you can't get elsewhere. The instrument is incredibly rare (only 500 are said to have ever been made, and who knows how many remain in existence). Commercial sample libraries of this instrument alone cost $300; that's how rare, complex, and musically useful this instrument is!

This Hammond Novachord is in better functional shape and cosmetic shape than all three of the Hammond Novachords we have sold in the past. It actually plays! It doesn't play perfectly though, and has some minor issues, but it probably will be an easier repair than 90% of the Hammond Novachords out there, if you can find one. It is sold as-is, no returns, because obviously the buyer will need to spend many hours repairing it in order to have it play perfectly. Cosmetically, it has scratches on the sides and back that might merit it being refinished, but from the front it looks very nice.

Our movers took the pictures shown below of the Novachord. They have moved many fragile and expensive musical instruments for us and received our express instructions on how to properly dismantle a Novachord for transport. They dismantled it into its three main parts: (1) lid, (2) metal chassis, and (3) bottom half/base, in order to get it out of the door of the house we bought it from, where it had sat for the past several decades. We have done this dismantling before with our last few Novachords and will be putting the Novachord back together as soon as it arrives on August 22 (it came from the east coast of the USA).

If you are in California, we can offer free delivery if you buy this before August 22. The shipping prices listed here are just estimates. Shipping to other locations will be determined by the actual zip code of the destination."
