"The Noise Toaster is a lo-fi analog noise synth designed by Ray Wilson of Music from Outer Space.

This build includes a modification that allows for external CV control of the VCO as well as an input that passes an audio signal through the VCF.

The case was created with the aid of a laser cutter. The acrylic front panel was etched, creating a mask, and then spray painted.

This synthesizer is currently for sale... www.etsy.com/shop/xiwi"

Hellcore - Video Jam #1 :-)

"Listen to this on some decent speakers or cans.

First attempt at a video jam, pretty simple with no real pre-planning and it shows but still happy I managed to get this done. Plenty of mistakes, not least screwing my QuNeo setup just before I started, so carried on without. Oh and the audio is a little out of sync too!

Gear:

Elektron Analog Four
Waldorf Blofeld
DSI Tetr4 (controlled by E-MU controller)
iPad running Animoog
iPod running Alchemy
PreSonus AudioBox 1818VSL
Macbook Pro (recording stereo mix only).
PC running MIDI-OX and Camera

Only sequencing is that on the A4, effects are from the instruments or inserts on the PreSonus. Only post-processing is a bus compressor and limiter on the stereo mix out of the VSL"

Keith McMillen QuNeo & Dave Smith Instruments Tetr4 Controller Experiment

Published on Dec 6, 2012

"Notes: Firstly sorry if you catch the version with the feedback at the beginning (skip to 1:52), YT is taking a while to crop it. Also I'm awaiting a replacement QuNeo as this one has a very loose USB socket as reported by a number of users, this can cause the unit to reset or the left rotary to trigger randomly as the housing moves.

Recording has a small amount of reverb and a limiter to save my monitors.

Just trying out the control possibilities for this combo, need some practice to play it setup like this as the pads Y-axis are set to fine pitch (X is mod). I would have loved to be able to assign the pads to the Tetr4's 4 assignable encoders, but I'm unable to without NRPN access. (Edit: Pads note mapping is not chromatic, I was messing with them and forgot to remap them).

Layout:

Long slider position set to OSC mix, width to stereo pan (basically a stereo spread on the Tetr4).

Vertical sliders Bank 1 is Filter ADSR, Bank 2 is VCA ADSR, Bank 3 is from left to right Filter Envelope Amount, Filter Velocity Amount, VCA Envelope Amount, VCA Velocity Amount.

Horizontal sliders are top to bottom:

1. Bank 1 OSC 1 Sub, Bank 2 OSC 2 Sub
2. Bank 1 Noise Amount, Bank 2 Filter Audio Mod Amount
3. Bank 1 Feedback Volume, Bank 2 Feedback Gain

Rotaries: Left Filter Frequency, Right Filter Resonance.

Things left to do:

Map more of the banked/unused sliders, sadly as a lot of the Tetr4 parameters are only accessible via NPRN I need to wait for either an updated QuNeo editor or the promised SDK. Unless there is some sort of NRPN/CC bridge I could make use of (any ideas welcome). Would love to be able to set up bi-directional feedback for setting up the Tetr4's sequencers with the pads, controller value with x/y and on/off with the pads toggling.

Overall though despite the frustration it shows a lot of potential for performing and editing the Tetr4 as, lets face it, the front panel editing is not so great! I especially like the really crazy modular-esque sounds you can get with some X/Y action on the pads (@ 13:30ish)."

New Special Edition Black Doepfer MAQ 16/3

In time for the upcoming Frakfurt Musikmesse. via Doepfer

"Special edition of the Analog Sequencer MAQ16/3 with black front panel and the same rotary knobs as Dark Energy/Dark Time"

Some quick notes on the MAQ 16/3 in general:

"Fans of vintage analog sequencers will be glad of the MAQ16/3. It combines the creative potential of an analog sequencer with the advantages of MIDI. MAQ16/3 outputs the sequencing data both as control voltages (CV) and as MIDI events. MIDI Out of the MAQ may be connected to MIDI In of any sound generating MIDI device (Expander, Sampler, Synthesizer) or to a sequencer recording the MAQ data. Additionally 3 Control Voltage and Gate outputs are available for controlling vintage synthesizer equipment (e.g. the A-100 Analog Modular System). The main feature of the MAQ is the real time access to the sequence via 48 rotary potentiometers grouped in 3 rows of 16 dials each. All important parameters like first/last step, MIDI event type, MIDI channel, forward/backward/random/pendulum mode, gate time, tempo and so on are independently assigned to each row and can be changed in real time while the sequence is running. This enables very complex sequences. The rows may not only be used for generating note events but also other important MIDI events or for controlling the length of time for each step. Of course the MAQ allows the synchronisation via MIDI Clock, Start and Stop either as master or as slave.
