The Digitakt is here, and the Octatrack just got a new MKII update. Which one to choose!? They are overlapping in what they can do, but I think they are different enough to justify that Elektron keeps selling both of them.

So here's a mega workflow comparison video where I'm comparing them side by side in a number of aspects. It's a bit long, but if you're interested in this stuff, I hope you'll find the video interesting.

Cheers

I wanted to push the limits a bit with this one, and try to make a long 20+ minute jam session.. and I failed! :D 19.44 dammit!

This is a piece written in 2 parts, an ambient style intro which moves toward an upbeat section. Even though the track is only 99bpm i wanted to make it feel like its moving pretty fast.

00:00 Part I
05:55 Part II

There is loads and loads of stuff going on in this one, intro is made with the NLA1 + reface CP and a reverse piano loop on the tc electronic ditto looper. Reface CP in the intro has FX bluesky reverb mix on full, so the accents are washed away in the reverb for a smooth dreamy sound.

The NLA1 is being controlled by an expression pedal, which opens up the filter and increases the rate on the built in phaser FX i am using on the pad sound. The ms-20 has a brutal bass-pad sound .. laced with some white noise on top for that creamy dirty feel + through the el cap and space for ambience.

Volca bass does the low bass, monologue a modulated bass with noise, 0-coast a messed up randomized bass melody.. + elektron with a couple resonant hits and basses over the top.

Modular is doing a wavetable mishmash through the morphagene + some weird modulated delays in the space spiral.

All in all, i went sort of all in on this one, but I feel its pretty laid back anyways, which was the goal for this track.

Gear used: TR-8, System-1, TB-3, KORG volca bass x2, keys, (fm not in use), monologue, ms-20, 0-coast, erbus, elektron analog four, reface CP, NLA1, microgranny MG.2.4

Modular, braids wavetable mishmash through the morphagene - rack on modulargrid: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/v...

FX, strymon bluesky, el capistan, eventide space, mooer skyverb, red panda particle, catalinbread CSIDMAN, tc electronic ditto X2, ms-70 CDR, eaerthquaker devices space spiral, keeley engineering caverns

Big thanks to the burgonauts for making this video possible - BoOoOoM enjoy !"
