More Morgasmatron! 2- Operator FM and 4 Pole filtering

Published on Jul 26, 2018 Intellijel

"Did you know Morgasmatron can be used as a 2-Op FM Synth Voice? How about as a 4-Pole Low pass filter? This video walks you through a few more techniques to try with Morgasmatron that may have been overlooked.

2-OPFM:
1. Set the filters to parallel and turn Q for both all the way up.
2. Switch A to DRY and turn input A down.
3. Feed the MIX out to filter A’s FM1. This allows you use XFADE as the FM Index. Now Filter A is the Carrier and Filter B is the modulator.
4. Experiment with using Q-drive and filter A’s distortion, or feeding the Filter B output into other parameters like the 2 FM inputs. Also be sure to try modulating the XFADE input.
5. Because the left 1v/oct input controls the the pitch of both filters, they will track together and you can use the cutoff of B to create different FM ratios.

Combining Poles:
1. Set Morgasmatron to SERIAL.
2. a) Set both filters to LP2 to create a 4-pole low pass filter.
b) Set both to HP2 to create a 4-pole high pass filter.
c) Or set A to HP2 and B to LP2 to create a 2-pole bandpass filter.
3. Feed a control signal from something like Planar, Quadratt, or Tetrapad to filter A’s FM2 and set their cutoff and FM2 identically to control the two filters in tandem."

Liszt Chorale: Meine Seel' Erhebt Den Hernn (Psalm 67)

Published on Jul 26, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Not to everyone's taste, but this certainy shows a completely different side to the Obi. I'm going to record the entire Chorale - but not one video after another, as that would likely be quite dull for my subscribers, and also for myself.

The edition I'm playing from is the Editio Musica Budapest new edition of the complete works. Really great edition. You'll know it as the blue hardback set with the gold writing.

When a teenager, I saved my pocket money to buy these editions. The local music shop was the long-gone Mackays music in Ayr - I'm sure many locals remember it. I'd phone Mrs. Mackay almost every two weeks and ask her to order me a new edition. I think the process became quite tiring for her!

This was back in the pre-internet days, where music awareness was through magazines, and whatever was on the shelf. I remember at the time, when purchasing these books, wondering why almost every Liszt CD was Mephisto Waltz/Hungarian Rhapsody etc when clearly he had composed a huge volume of music - with the scores easily available. Nothing much has changed in this respect i.e. most Liszt recordings are of the standard works.

I always had an affinity for late Liszt. Many of his late works still remain quite obscure.

The Chorale is vocal - but it translates well to the synth. As anyone with an Obi will know, the Obi is 6-voice. The Chorale will be fully translatable to the synth - bar one work - where there are a few 7-note chords. With the exception of that specific piece, the set will be faithful to the score.

I couldn't sleep last night, hence an early morning recording. I also wanted to get my run in before Scotland once again becomes an oven. Running in our present daytime heat is madness.

I though specifically of the Chorale as I'm presently having a good debate with a friend RE certain aspects of the Bible. Most of my conversations end up on the topic of religion/philosophy, and most of my free time (when not playing music or running up mountains) is spent arguing with pastors/ministers/anyone who is open enough to the discussions.

I'm trying to win him over to the idea that the 'glory' ('kevod') of god is a vehicle/craft i.e. spacecraft. Hence Moses came down from the mountain with a burnt face i.e radiation burns, no different from sunburn. And hence the animals had to be cleared i.e. the engine would have roasted them. Which also explains the 'roaring like the sea'. But he's having none of it.

I'll win him over eventually :)

The OB6 actually works well as an organ. Perhaps churches should get them as alternatives. And if the congregation drift off, they can be woke up with a highly authentic rendition of Van Halen. That'll inject some life into the old dogs. Follow that with a sermon on Genesis 6:4 i.e. aliens having sex with the local women, and I guarantee you're on to a winner.

Van Halen + alien/human sex as mentioned in the Bible = bums on seats, for sure.

All best
Kris"

Elektron Analog Heat MKII

Published on Jul 26, 2018 Perfect Circuit Audio

"In this video we used the Analog Heat MKII to dirty up a Roland TR-09 drum machine and as a VCF and VCA to make a synth voice with a Make Noise DPO as the oscillators. The Elektron Analog Heat MKII can do everything from subtle saturation to all out high gain distortion. It has a filter with 7 modes and an EQ section, as well as an LFO and envelope follower and envelope generator. There are two inputs that can be used to trigger the built in envelope or control setting in real time with CV.

Treadstone -Analogue Solutions & Nosie VCA-CG-Products module

Published on Jul 26, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi Guys !!!
I have my first experiments with Noise VCA from Cg-Products and Treadstone.
I used Treadstone from Analogue Solutions here, the sequence comes from its built-in sequencer and of course the amazing Analogue Solutions. Treadstone is already available in the eurorack version, but I used the box because I have an early version in the box.
I know in the eurorack version just filled this little empty hole!
I also used the delay effect of Erica Synths Pico DSP and, of course, ''Nosie VCA''.
I open my mind to new experimental things like those from Cg-Products where there is variable VCF and VCA ."

via Ocean Swift where they are having an introductory offer for 35e:

"Addictive and Additive Synthesis – Aeolian Meditation is a unique digital take with a twist on the ancient Greek instrument of nature.

At the core are two signal chains – harmonic overtones and noise colors

The harmonics section consists of the first twelve harmonics at the set frequency. These twelve sine partials are each amplitude modulated at different speeds and depth providing for an ever changing and ever evolving tone."

"I was playing with my MS-20 mini and figured out how Daft Punk made that really nice filter sweep sound on their track Burnin'. So I built a simple 16 beat loop around it. I hope you enjoy it!

Sounds:
Octatrack master out - kick and snare
Octatrack cue out to Moogerfooger MF-101 - bass sample
Moog Voyager - Synth bass
Roland TR-09 to Sherman FB2 - hihats and clap
Korg MS-20 mini - Filter sweep

MS-20 settings: The sound is created with the lowpass filter oscillating with max resonance. The oscillators are actually turned all the way down so you can't hear them. The output is fed back into the external processor to add that nice gritty distortion the MS-20 is known for. When I first heard Burnin', I always thought the sounds was created by an LFO sweeping the frequency, but the sound is actually triggered on the 1st and 3rd beat and the sweep is created by the filter envelope. The envelope attack stays the same and the decay is changed to create that signature sound."
