New Hinton Instruments PitchMaster and SequenceMix

via Hinton Instruments

"Our 3U Professional Module range continues to expand with two new modules.

PitchMaster is, as the name states, a master pitch CV source for the calibration and control of 1V/oct devices. It features a precision voltage reference and six high precision adders to generate pitch control voltages for up to three devices. High quality rotary switches give instant octave and semitone steps over 10 octaves.
Now shipping.

SequenceMix is a shift register controlled group of switches with individual outputs and precision adder outputs. Comprehensive control by analogue CVs, clocks and MIDI make this a highly versatile and expandable module.
Available from May 2019."

Note these are "Eurocard" 3U format. I asked Hinton how that differed from eurorack and they replied with the following:

"Hinton 2000 series modules look similar to Eurorack because they are both based on the same industrial standard, but they are usually deeper and will not fit in shallow Eurorack cases. Both systems will fit in Eurocard frames or custom frames with 200mm or more depth."

"Up for sale is a Waldorf Q keyboard. This is a 16 voice 1999 model with OS 3.02 installed.

The Bad:

The Nextel paint on these is notoriously bad and this one is showing it's age. Many scratches and scuffs, The paint has started to rub off in a few areas. Please look at the pictures.

Two of the knobs are not original. Some of the knobs have become brittle, cracked, and fell apart. Two of the knobs have cracks but you might be able to glue them. I recently replaced 16 of the knobs. This is another well known problem and I would guess even more of the knobs will fall apart due to age. Because of this I will remove all the knobs and pack them separately when shipped.

One screw is missing on the back.

The Good:

The Synthesizer is in very clean condition despite the ugly paint. I have owned it for over 10 years and it has been well looked after.

All the encoders are working flawlessly. They are original. No skipping values. They do tend to skip a bit if they go unused for a few months but a few turns and they are good as new. All the buttons are also working.

The keyboard is straight and all keys work and respond to velocity and aftertouch.

Pitch and mod wheels work as they should.

The LCD display is original with good brightness and contrast. The contrast is adjustable."

"'Eetts aliiiive!'

The forthcoming Mindphaser eurorack complex oscillator from Hexinverter ร‰lectronique is inching closer and closer to production this year. Release date TBA soon! Some final aesthetic tweaks and adjustments to make before production, so what you see here is thee first pre-production prototype, which will be fine tuned and made nicer looking for release.

Sorry for the poor A/V quality. Just shot a quick video during crunch mode getting it ready for its first public debut at Synthplex and Superbooth 2019!"

Arp Odyssey & Alesis Nanoverb

Published on Mar 23, 2019 Kris Lennox

"Korg's wonderful Arp reissue, here paired with the equally wonderful Alesis Nanoverb. Startling to think that is almost a decade since Keith Barr's passing. Quite a loss to the music world. Fantastic design/vision on his products.

I haven't heard the Behringer Odyssey, but I'm sure, like the Korg reissue, it'll be fantastic. Isn't it all great - very lucky times we live in, with the choices we have - and the access we have to hear instruments as/when. I'm sure many remember pre-internet days where hearing an instrument often meant travelling quite a distance to the nearest music store!

The included recording is an intentional Buddhist-like chant (obvious @ c. 2:02 with the pitch in the male register), with a distinct nod in the direction of throat-singing vocalist extraordinaire David Hykes (have a listen to his music if unfamiliar).

I remember the initial surprise when first playing on an Arp: surprise that the instrument had a strong association with a sharp, biting tone. It certainly can have this - but for me, it always felt like a very natural choice for producing a soft, evocative lead line.

The instrument itself is hugely versatile. Perhaps the association with harshness speaks more of assumption RE usage/following what has come before than it does with regards any limitation of the instrument itself.

Right. I need to go lie down. No sleep last night as I decided to do some minor cleaning duties in the house, and as is the way with these things, one job becomes ten. However, Scotland has a rare sunny day today, so maybe it should be a case of seeing this one through until sundown and making the most of it.

All best, and have a good weekend
Kris"
