Alphastare at Touch the Gear (Outsound New Music Summit)

Published on Jul 27, 2019 CatSynth TV

"Jeff Klukowski of Alphastare describes his setup at Outsound's annual Touch the Gear event in conversation with Jason Berry of CatSynth. His rig includes a Pocket Gamelan, KOMA Field Kit, Borderlands iPad granular synth, and sundry modules including Erica Synths, Make Noise, and more.

Outsound's original public event Touch the Gear is a hands-on, family-friendly exposition open to the public. During the evening attendees get to roam among inventors and musicians while experiencing sound producing gear, computers, instruments and inventors with their various different configurations of “gear”--everything from oscillators and electronics, to planks of wood with strings attached. All attendees get to ask questions, make sound and experience how the instruments work, in an environment that demystifies technology while inspiring creativity.

"This MaxiKorg was the second and Far Superior Model released. The First appeared to have been 'rush released' in December of 1975 because although it was identical to this second model it lacked The Jacks at the back to accomodate the VERY useful and Expressive Pedals for the hands-free manipulation of the VCF Sliders on the Front Panel for BOTH of the Two Synths!

This second model released in April or May of 1976 DID include the jacks for controlling the VCF Sliders (or 'Travelers' as they were then called)..."

XFM FPGA-based FM synthesizer module

Published on Jul 17, 2019 René Ceballos

via future3soundz

"XFM is a polyphonic, 32-voice, 6-operator FM synthesizer stereo module that you can build yourself.

Essentially, the module receives MIDI messages from a controller/sequencer, produces audio and delivers it via digital (SPDIF) and analog outputs.

The sound range XFM can create and its feature set have a very broad intersection with most pure-FM synthesizers of the past (Yamaha DX series, OPL chip series, TX81Z/802/816 modules, etc.).

Complete Feature Set
32-voice polyphonic

Polyphonic or Monophonic Legato modes

6 operators per voice

Frequency Central WHITE FACE (Arp Odyssey 4023 Filter) Eurorack Drone & Demos

Published on Jul 27, 2019

"Frequency Cnetral White Face filter based on the Arp 4023 filter from the MkI Odyssey. See quick links below to skip to dry audio examples. First half of the video was the first patch I created with it, using the XVCO TWO and a sample I imported into Radio Music as input. The second half of the video is a pure sound demo and intended for people that are interested in the filter's characteristics. Gear used listed at bottom of description. As the MkI Odyssey came out in 1972, I've added video clips of an obscure British horror film of the same year - 'Death Line'.

I'm trying to fund the contiuation of this channel, as I'm struggling to finance it, and might stop producing regular content for it this year. Please see my Patreon page to see how you can support it for as little as $0.99 a month, or visit my Bandcamp page to purchase my music:

Pics of the inside below.

"This flagship from Elka is in wonderful pristine condition with original stand, case, literature and vinyl sleeve (for its stand), coming directly from its original owner. As the first one, this Synthex had never been touched by a technician when we got it.

It has been fully serviced by John Kostycz, our synth guru, who was the original Synthex service technician when it was in production and sold new in stores. This Synthex is in impeccable working order, and all its electronics are very clean. It’s been kept on test for days, and it sounds as fantastic as the first one.

The Synthex is one of the most desirable synthesizers on the planet and this is another prime example."
