Best Ambient Synth Shootout #91: MEGA MIDI - Song 1

Published on May 23, 2020 Christian's Sonic Spaces

I believe tis is the first post to feature the MEGA MIDI by Aidan Lawrence.

"This is the first song with the MEGA MIDI by Aidan Lawrence. It's an FM synthesizer based on either the YM2612 yamaha chip (used here and in SEGA Genesis / Megadrive home consoles and various SEGA arcade game systems, including the Mega-Play, System 18, and System 32) or the cleaner sounding YM3438 chip without the crossover distortion in the output. Both sound chips has six channels with four operators per channel.

In contradiction to the Kasser DAFM Synth you can't program the sounds but just load via SD card opm-file game sounds from the SEGA Genesis / Megadrive games (currently more than 9500 opm-files available). The game music composers did a great job to programming the best out of the 4 OP FM synth. So it's a lot of fun to dive through all the game sounds.

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
MEGA MIDI - DigiTech Obscura - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

"Dark and gloomy meditation music with the FLAME MÄANDER wavetable & filterbank synth. MORE INFO BELOW :)

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

It has been raining last night and this morning outside of our roof top tent. To capture this mood, here is a slow jam session with a powerbank-powered Flame Mäander, augmented by an ambience recording full of birdsong.

The only thing that was added to the one take recording of the dry Mäander was some Audio Damage EOS2 reverb."

Buchla Cosmic Drone - Session 19 - Modular Drone Music Performance

Published on May 23, 2020 The Galaxy Electric

"Thanks for listening! Come on a musical voyage with us where we'll send you a new song every day, a cosmic story, and a chance to earn space treasure: https://thegalaxyelectric.lpages.co/5...

Relax and tune into our live weekly improvised Drone Sessions. This seventeenth session involves a drone featuring two independent Buchla style complex and modulation oscillators starting in tune a couple octaves apart. There are also other sound elements such as filtered pink noise and bell-like tones. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control, beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillators can serve as mindfulness sounds as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. Drones are also great for a Sci-fi film soundtrack. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction. The fact that we are manipulating these oscillators live and in collaboration helps the drone meander ever so smoothly in an evolving fashion as we are always reacting to one another's subtle movements. These movements are improvised so there is an unrehearsed and reactive ebb and flow to the tones generated. Engage in the practice deep listening with us.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel and a cosmic vocal drone setup using two Boss RE-20 Roland Space Echo pedals.

New V4 Airways firwmare update (code-name 'Total Nightmare')

"Introducing the V4 firmware update for Blck_Noir, Grand Terminal, Milky Way and Squawk Dirty modules.
BN, GT and MW obtained new reverse reverb, GT and SD has a new comb filter with self oscillating resonator along with bug fixes. MW has a new saturator on the end range of its volume knob"

Audio update of Milky Way, Squawk Dirty, Blck_Noir and Grand Terminal modules

Published on May 23, 2020 TheEndorphines

"Due to various requests, here is the simplest firmware update algorithm of series of modules Milky Way, Squawk Dirty, Blck_Noir and Grand Terminal.

1) Download the latest firmware from our website:
https://airways.endorphin.es

2) Select your audio output in OSX to be headphones. The ideal volume level is one bar below the maximum audio level.

3) Power on your system while holding TAP (MODE) button on the module you are updating. Bank LED will start blinking BLUE (GREEN), this means it is now waiting for an update file.
4) Plug a 3.5mm mono cable from your computer’s headphone output to IN1/AUX input on MW/SD,/GT/BN). Make sure the best out level trimmers are tuned all the way CCW. Plugging in a cable might cause a spike in the audio, so in case the LED starts blinking red just press the TAP/MODE button again.
5) Turn WiFi off to not disrupt the update procedure, play the latest firmware audio file. The module’s led will be continuously blinking fast (green or blue depending on the module), this means the update is running. If the led turns red during the update, it means something went wrong, restart the update process and try again, make sure the audio level is one bar below maximum and all the audio input level trimmers are turned fully CCW."
