"Overlapping clock divisions can create changes in a patch that are not just different rhythms for note events. These changes take place in the "meso" time scale, and when they work within and through each other they can be considered to be "meso-polyrhythms."

The more meso scale movements we add to the patch, the harder it gets to hear the effects of each one. Check out the video "Sculpting Time with a Modular Synth" for some thoughts on larger structures. [posted here]

"In this video I perform "Just Another Space Odyssey" with an all-Roland keyboard rig, controlled by the Fantom's sequencer. The first two minutes of the tune is built up in real-time, by recording MIDI notes and looping them back. At 2:20, I start triggering pre-recorded MIDI sequences from the Fantom and play along with them.

Synths used:
Roland Fantom 6, Jupiter X, Jupiter Xm, System 8, JD-XA, TR-8S, TR-808, Alpha Juno 1 & 2 and SE-02

The audio was recorded in one take, but the video was edited from multiple takes."

"The Roland SH-2, released in 1979, is a Japanese-made analog monophonic synthesizer that offers fat, warm vintage synth tones that evoke the sounds that defined a generation of electronic music. It has been used by artists such as Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Men Without Hats, and more. The SH-2 has a 2-waveform oscillator with controls for modulation, a VCF filter, an ADSR envelope, and more. The SH-2 is known in particular for its ultra-fat and punchy bass tones. The comparatively small form factor allows this synthesizer to travel well.
