Dynamic Processing Techniques for Eurorack // Dannysound Dynamics & VU Meters
video upload by DivKidVideo

"Here we have the character oozing ‘Dynamics’ Eurorack module from Dannysound. The module has multiple functions and can be patched to operate as a compressor, expander, harmonic exciter, saturator or distortion, sub bass generator, EQ, envelope follower or a simple VCA. With all those functions to hand I wanted to make a video that explores modular music making techniques as well as applying wider music production tips, tricks and workflows that you can apply in your own music and sound creation too.

Throughout the video I’m using 2x Dynamics modules and the VU meters expander allowing for showing more concepts per patch, but you can apply these patches to a single module too. The module can be used as a separate EQ and compressor which too, allowing you to EQ your side chain signal (like sidechain filters on compressors) or simply use a single Dynamics module like two independent modules. With so much potential for this set of functions you’ll find some no talking patches just exploring adding life to beats or the amp drive (lovely saturation) spread throughout the video as musical interludes."

"The Dannysound Dynamics is a fully featured Eurorack mono compressor / expander module with a range of on board controls and features. The module has been designed so that it can be used with another Dynamics module as a stereo pair with the Dannysound VU Meters Expander.

This module was originally designed to focus on drum processing & compression, but in reality can be used for a wide variety of applications. The Dynamics comprises of:

· Compressor / Expander

· Sub Bass Enhancer

· 3 Band Inductor-based EQ

· Harmonic Exciter

The compressor / expander section uses a discrete transistor-based circuit that allows for soft clipping when overdriven. The envelope detector is known as a feedforward type of circuit; taking its input from the signal before it goes to the compressor rather than after. This type of circuit is known for having fast attack times.

The Sub Bass enhancer has its own compression circuit that “ducks” the initial transient. This allows the sub bass to be increased without distortion on the transient peaks increasing the overall level.

There is a MIX control to allow the unprocessed signal to be mixed back in with the processed signal.

The 3 band EQ is an inductor based LCR design. After trying out various EQ topologies this was the design that sounded the nicest. When overdriven it gives a nice “bite” to the sound and it has a certain characterful charm that’s hard to put into words. The controls have a response that are subtle to begin with and get more pronounced as the controls are increased.

The Harmonic Exciter adds a little distortion to the high frequencies which bring out the sparkle of cymbals or the snap of snare drums. The operating bandwidth can be switched between Low (snare drum snap) or High (Cymbals sparkle).

There are inputs for side chaining and control with an external envelope as well as an envelope out to make the envelope detector output available to drive other modules.

It also features separate inputs and outputs for the Compressor / Expander and EQ sections, so they could be used as 2 separate modules."

Will the Korg Wavestate plugin work on a Raspberry PI?

video upload by Floyd Steinberg

"Korg released the Wavestate and OPSix as software plugins. The hardware synths are built around Raspberry PIs, so why not try to run the plugins on a PI? (No table of content needed today)

'Endroll' - Ryuichi Sakamoto (From "The Last Emperor") Eurorack Modular Rendition

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching and enjoying it!
This project took me a super long time to finish, as I had to transcribe the entire piece by ear and then split the midi into individual monophonic tracks so that my MicroMidi Module from Intellijel can record each layer one by one.

For each layer, I ran uMIDI directly into Mutable Instruments Rings and split it into three voices using a buffered multiple 1U module. The first voice was going directly out into VCA, and the second and third were going stereo in and stereo out from Mutable Instruments Clouds, and then into the VCA. The gate was sent out from uMIDI into the TipTop Audio x Buchla Quad Function Generator 281t, and into Strum input on the Rings. Both Rings and Clouds were being modulated by the Instruō/ DivKid Øchd which was sending all the LFOs into a variety of destinations. In Ableton Suite 11, I mixed everything. Adding Shimmer and Supermassive to tracks that needed it as well as FabFilter EQ and Limited for maximum sonic compatibility. Each track was performed separately in regards to the desired dynamics and articulations from the original score which I was referencing, but not following exactly.

Behringer TD-3, TD-3-MO: 64 Lounge & Downtempo Patterns

video upload by Anton Anru

"'Lounge & Chill Out' is a collection of 64 sequences for Behringer TD-3 and TD-3-MO (Modded Out). It's suitable for many genres: Downtempo, Lounge, Chill Out, IDM, House, and others.

The sequences are organized in the following way. Each pattern inside the group has 2 variations: A and B.
A has fewer notes and articulations, it's good to start with it, while B is a much more energetic and expressive variant of A. This organization gives an opportunity to develop your bass line from "soft" to "expressive" (or vice versa) just in one click. And, of course, you may do any changes in sequences while performing or jamming.

The Sequences are done in C Major scale, but of course, you may transpose them to any note.
Patterns Groups I and II have regular 16 steps length, in Group III - "odd" length (7, 9, 13... steps), in Group IV - "odd" length, and they are in Triplet mode.

💿 Behringer TD-3/TD-3-MO - Old School (64 Patterns)
💿 Behringer TD-3/TD-3-MO - Dreamy Sequences (64 Patterns)
💿 Behringer TD-3/TD-3-MO - Acid Bass Lines (64 Patterns)
💿 Behringer TD-3/TD-3-MO - Lounge & Chill Out (64 Patterns)
Get the patterns: https://bit.ly/3dB9yho

For loading the sequences to your TD-3 use the latest version of SynthTribe app. It’s available on the official Behringer website – TD-3 page – Downloads.
SynthTribe version should be 2.5.7 or higher if you use TD-3-MO.
