Eine Kleine Nachtmusik for Synthi A.Switchtrix Electronics

video upload by SWITCHTRIX ELECTRONICS

"Eine Kleine Nachtmusik performed on the Switchtrix Synthe A.

The Synthi/VCS3 are unsurpassed FX synths but a well calibrated machine can do melodic stuff too.

Enjoy

"Just a quick vid to demo Maik Schott's wonderful work on recreating these sounds for Korg Wavestate (from his "80s Synthpop Vol. 2" soundset - highly recommended)."

JAMUARY 2024: AFXStation Style Sequencing On iOS

video upload by Perplex On

"I tried to replicate the #afxmode found on the #afxstation and #bassstation2 but on iOS. Therefore i created a simple #mozaicscript that translates each incoming note to a program change value while maintaining a basic C regardless of the pressed note. This way i can trigger different patches by pressing notes on the keyboard. Here demonstrated with #zeeonsynth and #riffer to create random sequences on the fly. With a little basic drum support from #hammerhead.

You can get the script here:

SOUNDMIT 2023 - CONNECTED SYNTHESIZERS AND SAMPLER - KIVIAK INSTRUMENTS

video upload by SOUNDMIT

"I francesi di @kiviakinstruments9665 hanno presentato un innovativo sampler/synth al Soundmit durante la loro campagna Kickstarter. WOFI potrebbe essere il primo hardware a permettere una condivisione avanzata delle patch, aprendo nuove opportunità per la collaborazione musicale. La capacità di connettersi online per la condivisione istantanea delle configurazioni sonore potrebbe trasformare radicalmente l'esperienza degli utenti, creando una comunità virtuale di musicisti e produttori.

Elektron Digitone "Cataphyll"

video upload by Benjamin Brodie

"Combining deep FM synthesis with a familiar subtractive synthesis signal flow, the Elektron Digitone is an amazingly powerful 8-voice synth. And with Elektron's acclaimed sequencing onboard, your creative potential is practically unlimited. Digitone is ready to create with four independent synth tracks, each with a 4-operator FM synth engine featuring eight different FM algorithms. Those algorithms — along with pretty much everything else — can be locked to different values for each sequence step. Factor in four MIDI tracks, an arpeggiator for each track, two LFOs per synth voice, multimode filtering, and built-in effects, and the Elektron Digitone may just be the FM synth you've always wanted to perform with.

The complex timbres and sonic animation you can create with FM synthesis make it a unique method of sound creation, and Digitone presents it in a welcoming fashion. Each of the four synth tracks features its own 4-operator FM synth engine with eight algorithms. Elektron gave Digitone a familiar subtractive synthesis-style workflow that makes tweaking these voices fun and intuitive. And with the potential to lock a different synth sound into every sequence step, Digitone offers far more sonic potential than most 8-voice synthesizers — or most FM synths in general for that matter.

The elusive song of the desert, caused by grains of sand rubbing against each other, is nature’s own FM synthesizer. Sometimes roaring, sometimes wailing, always enchanting. Enter the alluring dunes of Digitone: a compact synthesizer that fits snugly at home, in the studio, and on stage.

FM synthesis occurs when you modulate the pitch of one oscillator with another, to achieve rich and unexpected timbres. The ratio and rate of modulation impact the resulting sound. Digitone uses four oscillators, or operators, per voice. A particular configuration of operators is called an algorithm. For classical FM synthesis, it ends here.

With the Digitone, you get to shape, enrich and modulate the sound even further, using the powers of subtractive synthesis. Use the multimode filter with its custom envelope to soften or pronounce the wild overtones. Cut off the low, mid, or high frequencies. Sculpt with style and precision. Define the sound decisively using the full-featured amp envelope. Carve the contour of the sound.

You can add more movement to the sound using an LFO or two. Set any sound-shaping parameter in automated, repeated motion. At a very slow or a very fast speed, using a variety of different waveshapes, including a random one. Make your sound sway gently like the ocean, or flutter like a butterfly."

Eurorack Phasers

volume 3 video upload by John Schussler

"I got a Pittsburgh Modular Toad not long ago, and realized I'd not compared the WMD Orion to anything either. Figured I'd put them both together, and throw in the G-Storm Polychrome to help join this video with earlier comparisons of eurorack phasers.

The Orion is now discontinued, and the Toad is a limited edition that will sell out. Only the Polychrome is in continued production. Not that there aren't other phasers, mind you, just saying if you like these....

VCO is a Befaco Pony. Little bit of reverb to make it not so harsh, but not too much. That's about it. Enjoy.

Eurorack Phasers - Take 2

video upload by John Schussler

"(This is a 'headphones required' video. You won't hear half of what's going on if you don't listen in headphones.)

This is my second attempt at a video on eurorack Phasers. The first (linked here but not otherwise listed in my channel: Eurorack Phasers) contained a number of mistakes. I'm keeping it around because I actually find those mistakes interesting, and want to be able to remind myself.

In particular, I didn't understand a couple things:

1) The SynthTech E560 input isn't set up for Eurorack levels, it's set up for line levels. If you don't attenuate the input, it distorts rather badly.
2) You have to use BOTH outputs of any module (that has them) if you want to hear stereo phasing. It's the contrast between the source audio and the phased audio that makes the effect, and you need two outputs to make that happen.

So. Once again into the breach, I attempt to compare some eurorack phasers. I think somewhat more successfully this time.
