Cyndustries "WAR & PEACE" BUG OFF!

Title link takes you there.

Doktorfuture's Christmas on Crack

This holiday treat in via our own Doktor Future, Paul Sop.

"Considering the festive times up a head, I've got the modular doing XMAS song processing.

I have a mac playing an XMAS radio station I found on Shoutcast, A Rhode NT2 mic picks it up (a litle of the room sound :), and then it's into the modular etc... for processing. I'm also using a little bit of digital pitch shifting via the Kyma here.

It's all a bit odd really. The Mac is on an 802.11g network and reads the radio from the net. It's then played out-loud (vs. to a sound card) and Mic'd, then it goes through the modular, eventide, kyma, etc... and then back to the sound card, then firewire, then to a PC, then to Oddcast and MP3 conversion, then through another wireless network (802.11b), through a layer 3 switch, out the firewall, and to my server in Dallas running Icecast 2. :)"

This is great stuff. I've been listening to it for a bit. Title link takes you to the feed. Happy Holidays, and enjoy. BTW, Dr. Future's "Radio Modular!" has a permanent link on the right pane of this blog, just under the Synthwire link. So when this post drops off the page, you can tune in there.

A6 Flash Demo Reveals Missing Features

This little gem via Javier. Title link takes you to the original A6 Flash demo on the Alesis Japan site. If you click on the section just above the Mod wheels you will be taken to the Keyboard and Portamento section. To the right you can see a "process" button. If you click on that you will see the following: "Press this button to access a 16-step tracking generator, mathematical functions, and Boolean Logical Functions, which are typically used to modify modulation sources to such effects as non-linearity, scaling, conditional gating, etc." Nice. Thanks Javier!

Sequential Circuits Prophet 10

Title link takes you to shots pulled via this auction. You don't see these often.

Some details pulled:
"I could write a book on what the Prophet 10 is and what it can do. Briefly it’s a dual manual 10 voice analog synthesizer that can produce incredibly fat analog synth tones. Each voice has dual oscillators (saw/pulse/hard sync, saw/tri/pulse), noise, VCA and VCF ADSR envelope generators, and incredible routing options like poly and mono modulation and multiple LFO waveforms to fatten up things. Essentially it’s like having 2 Prophet 5’s with the addition of a 3 band EQ all in one unit. Includes an onboard sequencer too. This instrument was first introduced in the mid 1980s and was used by many artists such as Genesis, The Who, Human League, Tangerine Dream, The Orb and by composers and filmmakers such as John Carpenter."

"All oscillators and filters have been fixed by Wine Country. All trim knobs work and are smooth in feel and function. All push buttons light up when engaged. The onboard sequencer works. All keys on both manuals work and the contact wires are solid. The pitch and mod wheels still have the original feel. The cosmetics are excellent too. Unfortunately the tape interface is intermittent. Only occasionally can I load a bank of patches. The only other thing to note is the keyboard keys are noisy (compared to current standards) and need a little playing to free up a minor sticky feel. Wine Country told me that the rubber pads under the keys either get sticky (mine) or crack with age. Their solution was to remove each key and apply a light talcum powder to the pad to get things back to pristine. I didn’t have them do this as I had hoped to do it myself." This one also includes the MIDI retrofit kit.

The only thing missing is a MIDI cable for controlling your outboard gear. I have MiniMusic which is a great suite of software for sequencing synths. You can see some previous posts here. If you want to control your synths with this, I'd recommend checking out the Minimusic Hardware page for more info. Via DK.
