KORG MS20 Blackboard - VEMIA

via this VEMIA auction

"Here's probably a unique chance to get one of the rarest synth ever made ! This is a Blackboard KORG MS20 made by KORG in 1978 , for synthesis education. This one was sent by the Japanese KORG Firm for Mr Francis RIMBERT (JM JARRE's well known musician) for a French synthesiser school. Less than 40 examples were made !! It has been serviced last year by a professional in France, so everything has been checked, and cosmetically is really in very good condition. The keyboard can be replaced into the main panel if you decide you want, but it looks very good like that and it's great to use like it, and it was made in wood in 1978 as soon as it arrived in France. Big dimensions (1 meter x 0.70 m x 0.12 m for the panel)" giant ms20

Korg MS20 & Yohda's giant Eurorack modular synth

YouTube via MechaSeb76 | September 05, 2010

"A Simple patch with Korg Ms20 analog semi-modular synth and a fuck'in giant eurorack modular. As far as i remember, the Track and Hold of the MS20 was cloking the Plan B Model 11. Took with my Camera (and through the internal mic so as usual sorry for the bad quality). We have a lot fun every sunday with these beast. Enjoy !

The Human Sized Synthesizer [Giant KORG MS20 w/ iDS10 Style Controls]

Published on Sep 3, 2016 PsyKispup

via Red Bull Academy

"The Human Sized Synthesizer was developed by Daito Manabe and Rhizomatiks in collaboration with Red Bull Music Academy and KORG. It is a social experiment, embodying the Academy ethos of encouraging creative collaboration. The below schematics help to explain how it was constructed. The Synthesizer is a large format workstation that allows for interaction: There is a step sequencer drum machine with four sound sets, and a keyboard with an arpeggiator and other functions, as well as an X-Y effects unit. The large format synthesizer controls are based on KORG’s MS10/20 classic synthesizers, with MPC-style touch-sensitive trigger pads."

Giant Educational KORG MS20 Patched

via Moritz Scharf on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"We had a nice Trip to Carinthia/Austria. Knobbing away for the whole weekend on our modulars.
We also went to the Eboardmuseum (Synthesizers Galore! Thanks again for showing us around Gert!) and found this education version of a Korg MS20. It was built like a chalkboard so the teacher could show how to do a perfect noodling ;-)

NAMM 2013: New KORG Mini MS-20 Revealed in German Magazine?

Rough translation:
"Korg is celebrating their 50th company anniversary this year, the MS-20 turns 35. This suggest paying homage to this cult synth. And indeed, on NAMM 2013 Korg presents a "real", fully analog MS-20, just as we know and love it.

Called Mini-MS-20, it is ca. 15% smaller than the original, and sports a MIDI In and a USB MIDI port. This isn't using surplus Legacy cases as some have speculated (which were 20% smaller) but instead individually designed cases, equipped with a specifically developed keybed. The main PCB is more or less euqivalent to the original, including the components selected to be as close to the original as possible. It is not yet known which filter variant has been chosen, although it may be assumed that, just with the Monotron, it will be equivalent to the Korg35 chip, with slight modifications.

BTW, project management were the same engineers who did the originals. As a consequence, the instruments include the original manual, including patch sheets. You don't have to be a seer to expect a golden future for the Mini MS-20. With a suggested price of 600 Euros, this will find many friends, and will make all those happy who couldn't afford a 'real' MS-20 due to their exorbitant 2nd hand prices"

Update: giant size pic of the front. Click here to see it in its full size glory, or click the pic to the left for a smaller but still fairly large image.  The image is from KORG.de, here

Update 2: And the product page in German.  Googlish:

"MS-20 mini | Monophonic Synthesizer

The MS-20 is reborn! 1978 original circuits come to life

Presented in 1978, the MS-20 monophonic synthesizer, thanks to its rich, robust sound, his powerful, iconic analog filters and flexible patching options to be popular today. The typical sounds of the original MS-20, the Korg MS-20 synthesizer plug-in the Legacy Collection and the iMS-20 app for the iPad, now attracting more than 300,000 users.

Now the sounds of the MS-20, MS-20 are in the mini wakes to new life. The same engineers who developed the 1978 MS-20, today's circuits reproduced faithfully and its physical size reduced to 86% of the original size, without changing the traditional and timeless look of the model or to waive details!

The MS-20 mini fascinated today with absolutely authentic analog synthesizer sounds of his ancestors.

Developer comments

The 50-year anniversary KORG we again engaged in an analogue synth and this effort to create flowing parameter settings that characterize analog synthesizer especially. The original specifications of the MS-20 should remain intact. The developed by us 35 years ago, analog circuits still deliver the same unbeatable, powerful sound, from the lowest bass to the extreme heights. To experience the depth of the MS-20 mini, you have to play it yourself!

Highlights

The MS-20 mini was realized by the engineers of the first MS-20 and used a complete reproduction of the original analog circuit
2VCO / 2VCA / 2VCF / 2EG / 1LFO structure
Self-oscillating high pass / low pass filter with a unique distortion
External signal processor (ESP)
Extremely flexible patching system
Reproduction of the MS20 at 86% of its physical size
Reproduces every detail of the original, down to the packaging, the manual in the original style, the template for the patch panels and patch cables

Giant Synth Art Exhibition - Kann denn Liebe Synthie sein?

Kann denn Liebe Synthie sein? (Can Love be Synth?) photoexhibition at Reeperbahnfestival 2012 by katja ruge from katja ruge on Vimeo.

"the photoexhibition Kann denn Liebe Synthie sein? (Can Love be Synth?) at Reeperbahnfestval 2012 by photographer katja ruge.
In 2010 synth music lover Katja Ruge started the partyseries "Kann denn Liebe Synthie sein?" " (Can love be Synth?)" together with Frank Ilgener in Hamburg. Soon these events got connected to a photoseries that Katja Ruge did for the leading dance magazine Groove in Germany. The shots of iconic synthesizers such as the Minimoog, Korg ms20, Roland cr-78, Arp Odyssey, Roland tb-303, Roland Jupiter-8, Oscar and the Oberheim ob-8 are already a classic.
Katja Ruge exhibited her photoseries together with 80 analog synthesizers at Kunsthaus Graz with the synthesizerstudio hamburg, did a solo photoexhibition in the Conceptstore Achteinhalb Berlin in 2011 and this year at the SXSW Festival in Austin/Texas.
People (here in the video icona pop filming their viral, courtesy of warner music germany) can interact perfectly with these huge photos. The size is various. They get fixed directly on the wall out of over 100 DIN A4 prints or even on the floor when possible.

The party residency in Hamburg is the Club Golem, one of the coolest spots right now in the harbourtown of the city.
