Cinematic Ambient Improvisation // Polyend Medusa + Ventris Dual Reverb

Published on Nov 23, 2018 Genshi Media Group

"::| TO HEAR THE FULL RANGE OF FREQUENCIES, A GOOD PAIR OF HEADPHONES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED |::

A quick improvised bit of Cinematic Ambience using the Polyend/Dreadbox Medusa Hybrid Synth, going through the Source Audio Ventris Dual Reverb which I just acquired. I realized after shooting this that I had the Dual Reverb in the wrong mode (Parallel instead of Cascaded) and I'm still getting used to the sensitivity of the pads (and programming in general) on the Medusa. One of these days I'll crack open the manual..."

"The SynthVoice brings together all the elements of the classic 'subtractive synthesis' methods though, with full patchability, never limits you to such linear approaches. The setup can be played standalone or thrives from external control, whether from another Modular system or an external controller/sequencer.

Many of the circuits are built around the powerful V2164 quad-VCA chip which leads to the natural 'two of most things' - because one is never enough. In this way, the system can easily be patched for one or two voice operation without compromise (indeed there are 7 oscillating sources, so you can go even further)."

TipTop Audio Eurorack Drum Machine

Published on Nov 23, 2018 Perfect Circuit

"This TipTop Audio eurorack setup uses all TipTop modules and Mantis case to create a versatile setup for creating rhythmic music. The Circadian Rhythms is the rhythm sequencer which can clock the Z8000 for voltage sequencing. The sound sources are 808 and 909 based drum synthesis modules and multiple One sampler modules. There are two filters, a wave-folder and Z-DSP for effects.

The TipTop Stackcables make it easy to connect multiple cables to a single patch point. Since all of the sound generation modules have volume controls they can be mixed together with the compact Mix7 which has 7 inputs in only 3HP.

Earth's Magnetic Field Producing Sine Waves

This one is in via MATRIXSYNTH reader Gerard, spotted on SpaceWeather.com:

"A RARE WAVE IN EARTH'S MAGNETIC FIELD: When a stream of solar wind hits Earth, magnetometers around the Arctic Circle normally go haywire, their needles swinging chaotically as local magnetic fields react to the buffeting of the solar wind. On Nov. 18th, however, something quite different happened. Solar wind hit Earth and produced ... a pure, almost-musical sine wave.

Rob Stammes recorded the event from the Polarlightcenter, a magnetic observatory in the Lofoten Islands of Norway. "A very stable ~15 second magnetic oscillation commenced and persisted for several hours," he says. "The magnetic field was swinging back and forth by 0.06 degrees, peak to peak, with the regularity of a metronome."

Imagine blowing across a piece of paper, making it flutter with your breath. The solar wind can have a similar effect on magnetic fields. The waves Stammes recorded are essentially flutters propagating down the flanks of Earth's magnetosphere excited by the breath of the sun. Researchers call them 'pulsations continuous' -- or 'Pc' for short.

'A very sensitive magnetometer is required to record these delicate waves,' says Stammes. 'I use a mechanical magnetometer with bar magnets suspended from a special wire. LEDs and light detectors in an isolated dark box record the motion of the magnets, while vanes in oil damp out non-magnetic interference.'"

Treadstone-Analogue Solutions Bass demo part 2 (no talking)

Published on Nov 23, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi friends.
I have the next part of the recesses of powerful bass from Treadstone from Analogue Solutions UK Ltd.
in this video there are two parts that really show the solid sound of this little monster. it must be remembered that Analogue Solutions has a 25-year-long tradition of synthesizing, and this compact compact housing hides a truly powerful sound.
Some fun with the resonance and the attack filter. I think that the best thing is to check what is the small box.
This is not only a small synth but also the possibility of many modulations thanks to the built-in cross connections for modular or semi-modular synth connections.
Also filter goes low this analogue SSM style 24db filter really does a great job.
LFO, Noise, Sub Osc, EG, PWM, lofi digital echo are just part of the possibilities that you can modulate by flying it in different ways.

Roland Jupiter-4 Analog Synthesizer (1978) Child Of The 80s - retrowave track

Published on Nov 23, 2018 RetroSound

"(c) 2018 vintage synthesizer demo by RetroSound

all synthesizer sounds: Roland Jupiter-4 analog synthesizer from the year 1978 (early BA662 filter model)
The internal arpeggiator is triggered by the LinnDrum.
drums: LinnDrum (1982)
recording: multi-track without midi
fx: reverb and delay

This is an early BA662 filter based Jupiter-4 (vs. the later, more common IR3109). These are in my opinion the better, wilder sounding models, really unique sound character.

Used by Duran Duran, Human League, Yazoo and many others."

Casio SK-1 - Is a full production possible with only this?

Published on Nov 23, 2018 Espen Kraft

Completed track starts at 3:50

"Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard from 1985. Is it just a retro toy these days? Is it possible to make a full production using only sounds and samples from the SK-1?

https://soundcloud.com/espenkraft

I think it is and I've sampled a couple of sounds from the Roland Alpha Juno 2 into it, multi tracked it in the computer. I've also slowed down a couple of the internal rhythm tracks and recorded those into the DAW and from there chopped these up and created a new drum track.
Vocals recorded and voila! A brand new track. "The Weekend".
Every sound is off the SK-1, vocals added, mixed and mastered.
