New Sequential OB-6 & Prophet-6 BETA OS Updates Add MPE Supoort & Vintage Mode Operation

It looks like the OB-6 and Prophet-6 will be getting MPE support and the Prophet-5's adjustable vintage knob functionality.

via the OB-6 Sequential forum:

Main OS 1.6.4
Feature: MPE support
Feature: Slop now supports normal slop or Vintage operation

This OS is compatible with both the keyboard and desktop module; it will display as "1.6.4" after the update.

And via the Prophet-6 Sequential forum:

Main OS 1.6.3
Feature: MPE support
Feature: Slop selectable between normal slop and Vintage operation

This OS is compatible with both the keyboard and desktop module; it will display as "1.6.3" after the update.

If you recall, the Prophet-5 introduced a new Vintage Knob described as follows:

"Vintage Sound, Vintage Knob
In addition to sourcing genuine Prophet-5 hardware components, we did extensive research into exactly what made the original sound the way it did — warm, organic, and alive. We found that much of this desirable character was due to slight fluctuations and differences in the response times and frequencies of the individual VCOs, filters, envelopes, and amplifiers from voice to voice.

To give the same mojo to the new Prophet-5, we created the Vintage knob. Use it to dial in as much old-school randomness as you’d like. Go from a very stable '4' — as in Prophet-5 Rev4, which is how we refer to the new version in house — all the way to “1,” as in Prophet-5 Rev1, the rarest and most temperamental of all Prophet-5s."

And the OB-6's Detune knob offered the following:

"The oscillators on the OB-6 are extremely stable. To emulate the random pitch drift and oscillator instability of vintage instruments, use the DETUNE parameter (next to the UNISON button) to dial in as little or as much drift as you like."

The BETA OSes add a new "Vintage operation".

Update: I have confirmation from Sequential that this is indeed the same as the vintage knob functionality introduced in the new Prophet-5 and Prophet-10.

Sequential Pro 3 Tutorial - Arpeggiator, Paraphonic, Mod Sequencer

Creative Spiral

"In this tutorial I run through a patch design using the Arpeggiator, Paraphonic Mode and Modulation Sequencer to design some complex arp patterns. I've been spending a lot of time lately on patches like this... working on a full bank of sounds that will be available soon, focused on complex but versatile arps and paraphonic motion patches that can be played in any key."

Fairlight CMI Series III - the last restoration in 2020! - DeftAudio

"Yes, this is the real deal and your chance to jump onto a completely restored Fairlight CMI Series III system.

Hello. My name is Andrei Kudryavtsev. If you've been tracking Fairlight sales, you probably saw my other restoration work. All systems that I sell are completely restored and refurbished to the original condition, as much as possible. They are also upgraded to modern standards providing better reliability and usability. This system is not the exception. It used to belong to Larry Klein. It was one of the cleanest Fairlight I've ever received, however it required extensive work to get it up to date to Rev 9 standards. It's running OS9.34 with all required hardware changes, with 16 voices 32MB sample memory, with SCSI2SD replacing original hard drive, USB2CMI replacing original Preh keyboard, and a VGA monitor. It has fully repainted the CMI mainframe, music keyboard.

Power supply section is brand new. Old switching PSU has been replaced with three modern PSUs, driving clear power rails and dedicated power rail for fans. Cooling section is brand new, replaced all fans with server grade fans and new fan speed controller with a separate zone management and thermal sensors.

All work is carefully documented and available in my Instagram with all dates it was performed. It took me over 5 months to bring it to the condition you currently see. instagram.com/deftaudio/

This system needs a new home, a person who will be using it to make the music and not being distracted by common failures. All of those have been addressed to make your life easier and bring new life into this wonderful machine. I should say a disclaimer anyway, that as is a vintage gear....it may fail any moment...and obviously no return offered. However, I'm offering you my help in learning this great machine, and so you get 10 hours of my time at no charge. You can use it for whatever you want - set up and install online, learning session, tutorials, technical support etc... I want to make you happy.

What's included into the package:

1. Fairlight CMI Series III mainframe: Rev9.34, 16 voices, 32MB, 100kHz sampling input, SCSI2SD, cooling and PSU upgrades.

2. Fairlight CMI Series III music keyboard

3. USB2CMI keyboard adapter with Apple keyboard and mouse.

4. VGA Monitor, Video scaler, Green color adapter(if you want your fonts to be green)

5. Original Preh alphanumeric keyboard (touchpad doesn't function)

6. Fairlight CMI Series III original green phosphor monitor (faded CRT)

7. All necessary cables.

8. Larry Klein flight cases."

Microwave XT : soundscape machine

Miguel d'Oliveira

"I think the XT is one of the most underrated synths ever.
It rises to pretty much any challenge.
I'm about to format mine so, decided to do 3 quick improvs with some of my favourite sounds.
Of all synths I have, this would be my 'desert-island' piece of gear."

Ensoniq SQ80 w/ Extras

"1. An excellent condition Ensoniq SQ-80 synthesizer with the following upgrade and customization:
The latest SQ-80 OS v1.8 EPROM firmware upgrade set installed with hidden waves enabled ($20.00 value)
Outdated turquoise blue buttons replaced with original red buttons to improve appearance (see photos).
Also, the keys do not have the infamous "clanky" issue. I'm not sure if the previous owner replaced the key bushings or the keyboard just wasn't used much. Based on the excellent condition of the synth it looks like it wasn't used much. I only used it twice in my home studio and it stayed in it's storage case the rest of the time.

2. Red customized 16-IN-1 Ensoniq ESQ-1 SQ-80 ESQ-M 1024K re-writable cartridge ($120.00 value):
I requested that this cartridge be manufactured in red instead of the standard blue color to match the keyboard.
It is loaded with 1280 patches where each bank can be selected using the switch on the cartridge.
You can also save your customized patches to the cartridge eliminating the need to use floppy disks.
Data retention is 151 years.

3. Excellent condition SKB 61 keyboard case with wheels.
This case fits the SQ-80 like a glove and looks brand new (see photos). This case sales for around $380.00 brand new.

4. An additional cartridge with factory sound set and another SQ-80 voice/data Disk #1 (see photos)

5. Original Ensoniq sustain pedal/switch, Ensoniq volume foot controller and dual sustain/damper pedal combo (see photos):
I never tried sustain/damper pedal combo but the others work fine with no issues.

6. Original Ensoniq Musician's Manual which is also in great condition

7. Power cord"

[Frequture] Demo: Blofeld Modifier Simulator

Frequture

"More information on the simulator: https://www.frequture.net/products/bl..."

"You can use and view the following modulation sources: constant values, ADSR envelope and LFO (with all waveforms and options). Of course you can use all modifier algorithms. In addition, the play mode allows you to simulate the signals in real time or slow-motion. So not only can you see how the values change over time, you can also use the trigger button to imitate a keystroke. This way you can start your envelopes and observe how freely synchronized LFOs behave. The simulation speed, zoom and scale display are fully adjustable. On top of that you get a real-time calculation display that shows you the algorithm and the way modifier values are derived from the sources.

The hidden secrets of your beloved synthesizer are finally revealed!"

[tutorial] Hard panned voices, again... (Blofeld)

50 Oscillators!! Solar-50 Review - Sonic LAB

sonicstate

"Another unusual instrument from our friends in the East comes in the form of the Elta Music Solar-50 - Big Ambient Machine.

This is a FIFTY OSCILLATOR - yes (50!) instrument with 10 voice groups each with 5 oscillators (sawtooth) per voice."

---

If you look at each block you will see five knobs. There are 10 blocks, so 50 oscillators. Top center left is the filter, top center right is effects. Below that is a row of mixer knobs.
