Sequential Prophet 6 electronic music demo

video upload by Synthratix

"This is another one-synth challenge for making my own piece of electronic vintage-style music. All track come from my Sequential Prophet-6. I used my DAW to mix the tracks and add compression and a dynamic reverb that changes over the time. To make the video more special I put some coloured lights around the synth..."

Korg 700FS First Few Minutes

video upload by Circuit 3

"Now and then a synth really grabs your imagination. This is the first few minutes with the Korg Minikorg 700FS. The other synth is the Oberheim OB-X8 running simple arpeggiator to give me something to play against. All sorts of soundtrack vibes and the performance dimension of the 700FS really took me by surprise. I'll be spending a lot of time this winter learning this synth."

"This massive modular was sold at VEMIA in April 21, but due to a combination of circumstances - Covid, Brexit, and family crises - it has sat in its cabinets in the VEMIA warehouse ever since. The buyer has finally decided that the sensible thing to do is to offer it back for auction. It was well serviced in May/June 21 at VEMIA but has not been touched since until we photographed it just now.
Please check the photos for what is included. There are a lot of useful modules from modern 5U makers like dotcom, MOSLab and Yusynth, which make this a fully functional sequencing modular, but the main interest has to be the array of early R.A. Moog modules. This seems to be a pretty much complete R.A. Moog IIP, with three additional envelopes converted to 1/4 inch triggers, and a couple of other rare modules.

The early Trumansburg R.A. Moog modules include: 911 Envelope (s-trig connector replaced with 1/4 inch), 902 VCA, 903A Random signal generator, 905 Reverb, mixers x2, CV Switch banks (not connected). 904-B HPF, 904-C Filter coupler, 904-A LPF, 902 VCA, 902 VCA, 984 four channel mixer, 911 Envelope with s-trig, 911 Envelope with s-trig, power supply, Trigger connectors/ CV switches ( 1 CV switch has end snapped off, 2 bulbs need replacing), 907 Fixed filter bank, rare Filter and attenuator, 911 Envelope (s-trig replaced with 1/4 inch), 901b VCO, 901a VCO controller, 901b VCO, 901b VCO, 901b VCO, 901a VCO controller, 901b VCO, 901b VCO, 901b VCO.. CV switches/mixers x2 all working..

Later Moog modules: 911 Envelope ( s-trig connector replaced with 1/4 inch), rare Sine Converter, Moog Triple quad multiples. Plus the two dotcom sequencers etc etc. The Moogerfooger voltage unit enables the included Roland System 100m keyboard to control the Moog. Cabling is included as seen.

The modules look in beautiful condition. The cabinets all have their lids in good condition, and are solid, complete, and un-damaged. One or two of the cabinet backs are not original and have unmatched or missing screws.

Because it was sitting for four years in its cabinets, no doubt some pots may be scratchy, and some calibration will be needed. If you want, our tech can do that cost-effectively given enough time after the auction (rough worst case estimate 1000 - 1500GBP) - or you can get your tech to do the same after arrival. We think there is no reason why the rich and powerful 901s can't be calibrated to stay in tune over four or five octaves (at the 8' setting). Changing the octave switch will lessen the range.

We will palletise this (90GBP) for courier delivery or can deliver in many parts of the UK."

"Rare and unique sounding (in a good way ! ), in excellent condition, 3 OSC, RM, Noise, Dual Env, Multimode Filter, VCA, LFO and Midi Interface. One of the few modulars to address the issue of patchcords getting in the way of access to knobs. Having the patching separate and below the main controls is expensive to implement but very useful. It's also a bold and elegant visual design."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #137: SammichFM - Song 2

video upload by Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the second recording with the SammichFM. It is a streamlined, compact version of the MIDIbox FM synthesizer DIY kit. Designed around the OPL3 chip YMF262 (4-Operators with 4 different waves), which was a famous sound chip from the 8 bit computer era (e.g. Sound Blaster 16 soundcard), it can play 4-sounds with 6-voice polyphony each.

I used for the recording the following FX pedals:
Line 6 DL4 MkII, GFI System Specular Reverb 2, OTO Boum.

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. On some tracks Compressor and EQ where added in Cubase 13. The final song was then mastered using iZotope Ozone.

Well, I decided to go back to the basics, but at the same time make something useful for the synth community and do a kind of competition (I like competitions;-). What's my best synth for ambient music :-)"
