Paia Oz Vintage Poly Synth Rare VGC Working

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

Pics of the inside below.

PAIA Oz synth from the 70s. It’s a cool, portable, battery powered synth organ with full sized keys, 5 octave selectable, trigger out, built in speaker and apparently used by DEVO. I soldered in a new battery holder as the old one looked flimsy and wasn’t making good contact. The ribbon controller is working but it’s more a gimmick and not a true pitch bender. All keys function and all functions work except I haven’t tested the trigger outs. This unit is pretty clean inside and out but it is a vintage DIY synth that’s rare so I’m selling as is and as described. Awesome piece to display in your collection and totally playable. I would imagine that adding a nine volt power supply would be extremely easy as well as adding an audio line out. This kind of begs to be modified into something more but I never got around to it."

Mutineer Synthesizer Demo - Tone Generator Span & Wavetable Editing

video upload by René Feuerlein

"In this demonstration of my synthesizer software programming project Mutineer, I am showing briefly showing a Tone Generator's capability to Span waveform over to the next Tone Generator, as in a Wavetable synth. Also I am briefly showing some of the wavetable waveform editing tools. I then add a lowpass resonance filter, a Chorus plus a Delay effect module, and later include a second Tone Generator, on which I also edit its waveform. The final result is a dreamy pad sound."

Het Concreet Scanner 2023

video upload by

"In November 2023, I joined the team at Het Concreet in Tilburg, The Netherlands for a week long residency.

Het Concreet is a Dutch sound collective dedicated to finding new sounds by experimenting with analog electronic devices, magnetic tape and acoustics. Their analogue ambitions are rooted in their studio space, where they seek to find new meanings of sound by working with techniques that have become largely obsolete in today’s world. Their main instrument is magnetic tape, so I collaborated with my own analogue gear.

Radio Concrète was a a 12-hour broadcasting marathon that explored radio as a compositional tool and included contributions from Margherita Brillada, Veerle Pennock, Clara Byom, Bas van Druten, Nele Möller, Marieke van de Ven, Sharon Stewart, and was hosted by Steph Byrne.

During my stay, I fell in love with the Elektor Formant, a vintage Dutch synth handmade by Jos van Ras. In addition I used my SOMA Ether, Lore Mill Keyed Mosstone and Make Noise Strega synth. At the end of the broadcast, I made an intimate performance for a live and dedicated audience in collaboration with Het Concreet. This is an excerpt from that show."

Ground Grown Circuits Custom Korg Poly-800 Filter and Chorus Mods Demo

video upload by Ground Grown Circuits

via this auction

"This thing is great for dreamy evolving pads, drunk sounding horns, lofi surfing, and 80’s car chases.

The filter is modded to allow free playable control over cutoff and resonance, with a 2 pole/ 4 pole switch installed for more variety.
The chorus has been modded to allow adjustment of the rate, going into audio range for ringmod-like effects, adjustment of depth, and a true mix knob allowing for control between fully dry and fully wet.

There’s an external input, so you can run some audio signals in and override the noise (ext input level follows noise/filter envelope).

The internal battery has been replaced with a battery clip for no-solder battery swaps and a brand new battery has been installed.

All the tact switches have been replaced, so no annoying switch bounces while trying to program a sound.

The instrument is painted to match the green lettering in the programmer menu."

Arduino tracker on ESP32 developed from scratch - little sneak peak of a tracker/synthesizer project

video upload by Marcel Licence

"I have started to develop a tracker from scratch.
It runs on the ESP32 and also contains features from my previous projects.
The file format is quite simple.
All samples are integrated in the .mod file.
There are also patterns that are put together as a song.
I copied post effects from my old projects and added a feature to play the embedded sounds/samples.
Feel free to leave comments with ideas and suggestions to move the project forward.

Used tracker files:
- Patrick Phelan - Lotus3_Cd6-Shamrip.mod
- Patrick Phelan - Lotus3_Cd3-Lotus3.mod
- BOULA.MOD
- MONSTER.MOD
- PRES.MOD
- MINES.MOD

SPIN: AI-Music Synthesizer - Vinyl Meets Grid

SPIN: AI-Music Synthesizer from Arvind on Vimeo.

It celebrates the marriage between human and machine creativity through music."

via Arvind Sanjeev

"SPIN is an AI music synthesizer that allows you to co-create compositions with a language model, MusicGen. It is a playful invitation to explore the nuances of algorithmic music, encouraging you to slow down and zoom in on its artifacts. It celebrates the marriage between human and machine creativity through music.

SPIN breaks down the process of co-composing music with an AI using a tangible interface. Enter the desired mood, genre, sounds and bpm to listen to the music come alive on an LP record. A DVS (Digital Vinyl System) allows you to slow down, zoom in, scratch and listen between the notes. Use it to create new compositions, as a simple sound synthesizer, as a playful scratch tool, or to play relaxing music in the background.

SPIN is an artifact from a future where music will be hyper-tailored to people’s tastes and preferences. It is an explorer of musical curiosities that can generate music unlike anything heard before, blending unheard-of combinations of sounds, rhythms and harmonies. This opens up exciting possibilities for pushing the boundaries of music and creating entirely new micro-genres. Who’s ready for some happy, death-metal, disco?

Under the hood, SPIN takes the input prompts in the form of button presses through an Arduino Mega. This is sent via serial to a Raspberry Pi which prompts the MusicGen API. An mp3 file is received as the output which is loaded onto a Digital Vinyl System (DVS). A transmuted Numark PT-01 and a timecoded control vinyl record serve as the turntable. The Xwax DVS package for Raspberry Pi reads the vinyl timecode through a Behringer audio driver, and the output is played via stereo speakers.

There are a lot of amazing generative music experiments, from Dadabots’s relentless death metal streaming AI on YouTube to Holly Herndon’s experiments around voice transplantations. But I realized we hit a tipping point when I stumbled upon the Riffusion music model; I was taken aback by its depth and realism, including its new update that adds lyrical voices to the output. Inspired by this, I wanted to build a platform to let me further explore and combine never-before-heard combinations of music and sounds. This laid the seed for building SPIN.

I wanted SPIN to encourage people to be playful; having a scratch interface served this purpose. A DVS (Digital Vinyl System) adds an extra dimension while listening to the generated compositions. It allows us to slow down these synthetic tunes and listen between the notes. So, I decided to combine a DVS system with the MusicGen API in the form of an old-school synthesizer."
