video upload by organ69

"Hohner Symphonic 30N demo【organ69( http://organ69.net/ )で販売しています。】demo by hiko"

Note the video above is a demo I found and not the one listed below. The Hohner Symphonic 30N was actually used by Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones as pictured in this previous post.

via this auction

"If You want an 'stand-out' organ that is awesome looking, cool sounding and like none other money can find - You have found it. The Hohner Symphonic 30N is what You need.

You can create very unique organ sounds that are sounding on a brink of an analog synth. The 8 sound options that can be combined are sounding unbelievably good.

The looks of the Hohner Symphonic 30N are just pure awesomeness. It has attachable legs that are stored in the lid of the heavy duty case of the organ. That way the organ is very easy to transport.

This is a true masterpiece of German engineering. Just beautiful."

ANTOINE BARIL'S ONE MAN ELP: Backstage Pass @ EMEAPP

video upload by EMEAPP

"After over two years in the making, we are proud to be a part of the One Man ELP project; the brainchild of the amazingly talented Antoine Baril of Québec, Canada. As with his previous "One Man" videos that he has released over the last 7 years (Rush, Genesis, Yes), his attention to detail and accuracy is second to none and it was amazing to watch him at work within our walls for an intense week of keyboard craziness in July 2022. Along with his amazing videographer Paul DiGiacomo, they captured some stunning footage and audio to make this epic video project one for the ages. It was a blast to play a supporting role in this, we gave full access of our Keith Emerson keyboard rig (as well as our extensive collection of vintage analog synths) to Antoine and it was like turning a kid loose in a candy store, a cornucopia of awesomeness! Join us for an exclusive backstage peek at some of the recording processes and video shoots during this one week period. The ELP material he performed and recorded runs Then EMEAPP's executive director Drew Raison will take you on an up close and personal tour of all the keyboards and synthesizers that were used in this project.

Hohner U Studio Identified

See the update in this post. It's actually a µ Studio as in Micro Studio. That's why a search on U Studio didn't bring it up. That said you can find details and a demo linked in that post.

Hohner U Studio w/ SSM Chips

This one was spotted and sent in via Florian Anwander.

Not much is known about it aside from it having SSM chips. It appears to be an arranger. If you know anything about it, feel free to leave a comment.

Update: more info and a demo here. It didn't show up in a search because of the µ instead of a U.

Thanks goes to LeMel in the comments for finding it.

A Spotterʼs Guide to HIPs and Strings

Pictured: 1974 Hohner International String Vox (also see one posted here)

via Zen & the Art of Synthesizer Maintenance

"Anyone interested in 1970s-80s Hohner/Logan/ELKA string machines and Hohner/ELEX/Excelsior electronic pianos (some with strings voices), who has been confused by their rebadging relationships and the often dubious information online, might like to consider this new article summarising my research over the last few years:

A Spotter’s Guide to HIPs and Strings

https://zasm.earth/hipstrs

Models covered:

• Hohner International String Vox
• Hohner International String Melody and String Melody II
• Hohner International Electronic Piano K1 (HIP / HIP II / K1)
• Hohner International K2 (Stringvox)
• Hohner International Electronic Piano K3
• Hohner International String Synthesizer K4
• Hohner String Performer
• Hohner International EK61 'Globetrotter'
• Hohner International EK 2
• Hohner C86"

and

• ELKA Rhapsody 610
• Logan String Orchestra"

"Not long after the technology became reasonably affordable, Matth. Hohner AG sold several electronic piano and string machine models under their ‘Hohner International’ brand, apparently aiming at cheapness and portability compared with their acoustic and electromechanical keyboards. Most of these were either rebadged ELEX (Excelsior) products or perhaps Hohner-inspired modifications of them. Some were rebadged ELKA and Logan instruments, and they produced a couple of their own designs. [1] (Hohner did also produce organs, bass keyboards and pedalboards, acoustic and electromechanical piano-like instruments amongst others, but thatʼs not todayʼs topic.)

The plethora of these instruments from different manufacturers, some sold as Hohner, some not, some easily distinguished, some not, some modified either inside or out over their production span, has led to a certain amount of confusion in the years since, and poses a puzzle for people interested in obtaining and/or repairing them. But perhaps itʼs possible to construct a comprehensive overview which will allow them to be identified and distinguished?"

Hohner Cembalet CF

"Recorded through a Roland Cube Mini amp (Mic setting, minimum gain)."

via this auction

Note technically a synth as it is electro-mechanical. Posting it more for historical purposes. Here's the description from the listing "This is a rare Hohner Cembalet CF electro-mechanical piano built around 1963 - 1966. Rather a harpsichord than a piano since it has no dynamic touch and reeds are plucked. Unit for sale has been serviced: reeds have been cleaned from corrosion, tuned and action has been set to ensure notes volumes are as consistant as possible through the whole keyboard. Due to the reed and plectrum system there may still be some slighjt difference in volume, sound or pitch, but overall it plays and sound very well."
