Nano Modules VCV Random - Review

video upload by Molten Music Technology

"An interesting protrusion of software into hardware, VCV Random pulls a stock module out of VCV Rack and makes it a reality. The result is a delightful generator of randomness with four flavours.
Nano Modules sent me this module for review but have no say in the outcome."

What if VCV Rack was real? // VCV Random by NANO Modules

video upload by DivKid

"In an interesting full circle turn of events, VCV Rack that emulates Eurorack hardware how now come to life as Eurorack hardware in the new VCV Random module from NANO Modules.

VCV Random is a Eurorack hardware version of the VCV Rack Random software module. It's a flexible and modulate-able multi output random generator with some novel features, namely, a step shape control that adds increasing numbers of steps between random values and a 'RND' crossfade control that crossfades the sampling of internal noise and the output. The latter resulting in a unique way to control voltage changes per step and one that can modulate over time.

"Unique synthesizer / Sequencer. This is an incredible piece of Musical Technology. It's call the Lorre-Mill Double Knot V2. Comes with 7 Banana Cables (good quality ones too), Original Box, Power Adapter, Printed Manual & Unit. Start using right out of the box. If you never owned one of these before, then your in for a Sonic Shock as you Patch & tweak the 2 Sequencers on board.

You may be asking what is this?

Well the Double Knot is a Semi-Modular synthesizer/Sequencer & is a collection of some analog blocks and simple digital logic blocks to construct Electronic sound patterns. The interface is made up of knobs, switches, and banana plugs for patching. Inside the Double Knot synthesizer there are two voices.

Each voice consists of a Triangle/Square wave oscillator, a shift register sequencer, an enveloper and a voltage controlled amplifier. To set the tempo of the shift registers there is a clock. Functional blocks associated with the clock are an XOR gate and a binary counter. One of the aims of this design is to provide the most flexibility while still having some shape to the piece. The envelopers are triggered by the shift registers unless the trigger inputs are used. The triangle outputs of the oscillators are fed to voltage controlled amplifiers. This makes the Double Knot semi-modular. This system can be used to make complex textural sounds and FM Drones, or Techno Drums at Polyrhythmic Intervals.

This is the V2 version which has enhanced and newer features such as newer enveloper design with mode switch to set trigger mode, loop mode or off. wide range cv input can nearly halt envelope mid-decay for sample/hold type output. trigger input in lieu of the fill input from the previous model.

The shift registers on this unit are CD4015 with 4 bit R2R DAC on the first four stages and logic outputs on the last four stages

Also to add to the percussive effect we can shape the envelopers by feeding the outputs back to the CV inputs and then tweaking the knobs to get the shape to a more dramatic slope. ● Lengthen the decay by turning the decay knob counter-clockwise and add positive modulation by turning the CV level knob clockwise. Now you are bouncing.

One amazing Feature on this unit is the FM Modulation. The FM section allows easy modulation of one oscillator to the other or both at the same time. with a knob for FM amount, a CV in jack that allows control of FM index and a toggle switch to set the modulation routing

This is indeed an amazing piece of Technology. I truly enjoyed this and will miss it a lot. I have a few Youtube Videos so feel free to browse my more recent Videos. just go to youtube and type in the search engine rhampton1914 and my latest is there. An open box Video is on this link."

NANO Modules ALT // basic to advanced patch techniques AM synthesis, auto panning, sidechain + more!

Published on Jan 14, 2020 DivKidVideo

"Here’s ALT from NANO Modules. A quad VCA module in an 8hp Eurorack format. Three channels features both manual gain (level, bias or offset) as well as CV inputs with CV attenuversion (attenuation and inversion) which gives lots of control and opens up the module to sidechain and ducking like FX as well as easily making auto pan FX too. The fourth channel is a more basic VCA with input, CV input and output. This is normalised open until you plug in a signal which is useful for the onboard mixing. ALT is also a mixer, either for basic mixing of audio or CV, for CV mixing, for cascaded mixing (2x 2 input mixers, 1x 3 input mixer + a VCA …). This video aims to go through the basics to more advanced patching answering the age old modular questions “WHY YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH VCAS!” Going from basic amplitude control to full on AM synthesis and patching up other FX and dynamic modulations of modulation. For those comfortable with how VCAs work skip ahead with the timing index below to get right to the patch tips.

NANO Modules FONT // Tiny Eurorack filter with a BIG sound!

\Published on Apr 17, 2019 DivKidVideo

"I remember trying an early prototype of FONT last year when I met Jorge in person and he had a great little filter "wub wub" patched up. It's great to see FONT out in the wild as the second module from NANO Modules following on from MAR (video below). FONT is a 6hp Eurorack filter with 2 pole low pass and 2 pole band pass outputs, audio input, CV for cut off and resonance with attenuverters and a 1v/oct tracking input too. It has a big sound with some character with moments of "filter burn" with some soft saturation in certain patches.
