Mapper: map01/12/21 Chaotic Synthesizer Prototype Demonstration

video upload by Ryan Gaston

"A demonstration of map01/12/21, an electronic musical instrument that focuses on random, chaotic, and gestural interconnections between its constituent structures. map01/12/21 has been succeeded by map02/21, which offers nearly identical functionality; this video serves as an archival demonstration of the older prototype.

map01/12/21 combines three modules: the map01 Delta Scan Mapping Interface (a chaotic audio generator), the map12 Windowed Temporal Drag Processor (a dynamically re-writable audio buffer), and map21 Multiple Vector Source + Translation Matrix (a MIDI controller that combines two joysticks, sixteen random number generators, a timing generator, and a data routing matrix). map01 and map12 have been abandoned in favor of the newer map02 Delta Scan Mapping Interface + Windowed Temporal Drag Processor, which combines their functionality into a single device.

This improvisational demonstration highlights many of the unique possibilities of each of its constituent parts; ranging from blasts of noise to whistling tones, stuttered repeats, aliasing, goofy computer-generated bleeps, and gesturally-controlled chaos."

BMC105 JFET Phaser

Demonstration video upload by boogdish

BMC105 schematic walkthrough

via Barton Musical Circuits

"This module is a 12-stage phaser or all-pass filter with resonance control. When the filter’s output is mixed with the input, this creates notches in the frequency response. Classic phasing sounds are achieved by modulating the frequency control with an LFO. It can also be used as a 4-stage filter by removing the top PCB and jumpering pins 1 and 2 of the pin connectors together.

This module uses two circuit boards sandwhiched together. It's designed for 12V systems and can be easily modified for use with 15V systems."

Ultratroninator 3000 Zoxnoxious Analog Synthesizer

video upload by Ultratroninator 3000

"Demo of the 'beyond obnoxious' Zoxnoxious analog synthesizer with 6 voice cards installed. The installed cards:
* Dual VCO synth voice
* VCO x4
* Analog signal processor (VCF/VCA)

After some software updates I'm able to install up to 6 voice cards. Taking advantage of it here. This is more a proof of concept demo than anything else: certainly someone with some musical talent could do something much better than this.

Video shows each card being added to the Audio Out backplane, system turning on (look! LEDs!), then a close-up of each module in VCV Rack.

In development / coming soon:
* Z5524 dual VCO synth voice (SSI2130 VCO + AS3394 synth-on-a-chip) demo
* CPU auto-tune functionality"

Demo: AS3394 Waveselect Modulation

"AS3394: synth-on-a-chip. This is Alfa Rpar's clone of the CEM3394, the same chip used in the Sequential Six Trak and other 80s synths. What's new here? The '3394 has a input pin to select the VCO waveform. How about modulating that input at audio rate? Switch between tri, saw, tri+saw? Here is a demo of audio rate modulation.

Video shows some ways that could be used for modulation. Either by varying the modulation amount (LFO, envelope), or by varying the modulator (sync, pitch) a variety of effects are possible.

The completed board will use an SSI2130 as a second VCO as a modulator. This demo is bit of a hack in using an external VCO for the same purpose.

Interesting effect? Usable? Noise? Drop a comment on your thoughts!"

AS3394 - Audio Rate Waveselect Modulation

"Demo of the working part of this synth voice card: the AS3394 synth-on-a-chip. Beginning of the video I jumper a '3340 VCO to where the eventual SSI2130 will be on the board. This VCO is used for modulation of the AS3394, in this demo the waveselect modulation.

The "Half-Working" is a bit of a self-jab. The card is missing an SSI2130 which needs to be soldered on. The card as used is functional, less a second on-board VCO."

Sandy Freckle

video upload by cirtcele

"Sandy Freckle was a wonderful villain played by actor Rock Hampton in the Kath & Kim series. He was sleazy and annoying but irresistible and funny at the same time, much like this module."

via nonlinear circuits

"In Australia, there is an entrepreneur called Dick Smith who ran a chain of electronic hobby stores in the 70s and 80s (now he makes breakfast cereal). He used to publish circuit books every year (and sell kits for them), I no longer have the issue but remember the finer points of a circuit for a burp/fart generator.

It was simply 3 transistor based multivibrators running at different frequencies. The trick was that they were loosely connected by low valued resistors causing them to influence each other. This would result in unpredictable sounds that rarely repeated. Don’t expect it to actually sound like gas escaping from an orifice, think of it is a random pulse/burst generator

This version has pots to adjust the frequencies of each section and an input for turning the sound on and off rather than a switch. It can be fed gates or envelopes, which give a more gradual onset and tail as the sound starts and drops off.

Feel free to build it with whatever capacitor values you like. The ones suggested on the PCB (and heard in the demo vid) get into audible frequencies, but in some ways it is more interesting to use larger valued capacitors to get just pulses that will then ping filters and phase-shifters.

It is also interesting to feed it audio rate signals and it becomes a waveshaper/distortion module.

Sandy Freckle was a wonderful villain played by actor Rock Hampton in the Kath & Kim series. He was sleazy and annoying but irresistible and funny at the same time, much like this module."

X1L3 - PORT 2 - retro joystick and paddle adapter - eurorack module

video upload by X1L3

X1L3 - PORT 2 - Atari paddle mod walk through

via X1L3

PORT 2 is an 8HP, 37mm retro joystick adapter.

Current draw V+ 80MA / V- 50MA

Gate outputs are +5v

Paddle cv outputs can be set to unipolar or bipolar.
Paddle pair fire buttons are routed to joystick L / R gates.
Unipolar - 0 to +5v
Bipolar - -5v to +v5

Module can be used with a single stick, two sticks, four paddles or a stick and a pair of paddles.

The module consists of two dsub joystick ports which are compatible with all the old joysticks from back in the 80s/90s retro days of C64, Atari, ZX Spectrum, STs and Amigas.....

These joysticks consist of four on/off gates on the X/Y axis of the stick and a fifth gate on the fire button. Examples of compatible sticks are the competition pro, Atari joystick, Zip stick, quickshot 2 and the Cheetah 125+. There are numerous others. A search of retro joysticks will yield plenty of results.

The module is also compatible with the paddles that would come with an Atari 2600 system. The paddles require a simple mod that involves soldering a single wire into them to work properly with the module. No extra parts or desoldering is required. It's just one wire and a couple of minutes with a soldering iron.

****************************

NOTE: This module will NOT work with things like Sega megadrive/master system or Nintendo controllers. These use multiple fire buttons and rely on some cpu decoding to work properly.

****************************

Initial tests reveal this module to be an absolute killer in a noise/powerelectronix rig with a joystick/paddle pair combo for gate/cv control over a noise generating configuration. I'm sure it has plenty of other uses, but the SFX / noise rig is where it's at for me when using things like this.

AI012 Wave Animator BUILD VIDEO

"The AI012 Eurorack Wave Animator produces two pulses per input wave cycle with voltage controlled pulse width, distance, and amplitude of the second pulse.

The manual is here.

The DIY Eurorack Wave Animator build guide is here."

Update: press release follows:

Portland, OR, USA August 17, 2023 – AI Synthesis has released the AI012 Eurorack Wave Animator in both a built and guaranteed version, as well as in kit and PCB/Panel format.
The AI012 Wave Animator is a Waveshaper/VCO Expander that produces two pulses per input wave cycle with voltage controlled pulse width, distance, and amplitude of the second pulse. This design was adapted (with permission and a few changes) from Ian Fritz’s Double Pulse Generator circuit. Some changes were made to the circuit in development.
While the circuit is all analog, the AI012 Eurorack Wave Animator’s pulse wave outputs have a range of timbres from analog wave folding to digital sounding chimes.
The Width of each Pulse is controlled by the AI012 Eurorack Wave Animator’s Width knob and corresponding attenuatable cv input.
The Distance between the second pulse and the first pulse is controlled by the AI012 Eurorack Wave Animator’s Distance knob and corresponding attenuatable cv input. The resulting waveform can have two distinct pulses, or staircase style wave-shapes.
The Amplitude of the second pulse is controlled by the AI012 Eurorack Wave Animator’s Amplitude knob and corresponding attenuatable cv input. It can be negative or positive in voltage value.
In addition to creating new audio rate waveforms, when used as a sequencer, the module can create interesting rythmic variations when the pulses are used as triggers and cv is used to stagger the second trigger.
It comes in both Silver Aluminum versions and Black PCB FR4 versions.
Depth: 35mm
HP: 8
-V mA: 13mA
+V mA: 13mA

“In the year 2000, I was in college and obsessed with modular synths, but could barely afford to eat. I knew it was possible to build your own synth, but there wasn’t anyone, or anywhere to turn to for advice. In the past decade, much more information has been published online, and in 2013 I started down my path to DIY modular. Even with all of the information online, there still lacked a single, simple, comprehensive guide for those looking to build their own synthesizer. I want AI Synthesis to be that guide. Prior to building my own synth, I was a dreamer, after building my modular, I felt I had awoken. I want to help others do the same.”

Diy Drum Sampler Nein O Neng Wemos D1 mini

video upload by GlakGlikGluk

"909 style drum" in the editor. The following video description is in Indonesian. You can find a Google translation in English further below.

"Diy Drum Sampler Trigger
Nein O Neng
ESP Wemos D1 mini
.
.
Link :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jubq...
.
.

"Diy Drum Sampler Trigger
Nein O Neng
ESP Wemos D1 mini
.
This Drum Module is made with ESP Wemos D1mini Micro controller based on Wav to Code with 16 bit 41kHz PWM Output and max trigger input 3v per channel, I've made a schematic and coding if you want to make it yourself
.
Link :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jubq...
.
Caution to be careful!
Use a trigger below 3v otherwise you will damage it, in the schematic is not installed trigger switch you can install it yourself
.
If you use a trigger above 3v use a NPN transistor trigger circuit as a gate pin per channel, if using a symmetrical power supply you have to add a schottky diode as input and output gate safety so that there is no negative voltage short circuit
.
My message is keep trying and never give up on learning, remember failure is a process of success and work even if it's messy
