hard wood tryophyte demo

Will M

Also available as a eurorack module on Reverb

"Tryophyte is a monophonic touch-based synthesizer with an onboard touch-controllable bandpass filter. Each of the touch pads acts as one of three binary inputs to a frequency divider acting on the main oscillator. This allows for a playable scale consisting of an interval for each combination of the three pad inputs.

The bandpass filter acts to shape the pulse wave oscillator and both resonance and frequency can be controlled via touch."

"three guys vocal technique" is a formal extension of Beck's "multivoice." Consider trying it in your next project. The first guy is a normal announcer. The second is a weird or gruff voice, something to add texture. The final guy is secret, a whisper, something to add mystique.

Dudero Singing is related to "three guys," because it is a great way to inspire the weird guy. You take a synth like the stuber with rich inputs, and mangle it a little, and try to sing that. It can mangle lyrics and channel frustration into something mysteriously entertaining.

Thanks to Stu Mostofsky for being the original "Stu" in "Stuber!"
That was back in Baltimore. The brain scientist liked his eccentric synths, and svengali to the weirdo scene. Well I had this stereo filter, it was real wet, but we needed to add some Ciat to the Lonbarde, so it got the digital octave divider. The rest is history!

Rarebeasts EmTronic Mini Synth

Published on May 16, 2020 Rarebeasts

"This is the EmTronic mini synth, it's a super simple Arduino powered noise maker that I have designed to be easy to build and only requires easy to buy parts. This little synth allows you to control frequency, modulation and the waveform of the sound.

The Arduino sketch uses the awesome the_synth library from DZLOnline.

The 3d printed front panel finishes off the mini synth but you don't need it to make the sounds. You could even build it on a breadboard if that works for you.

Best of all once you're done it's time to experiment with your own mods to the software to make new crazy sounds and mods to the front panel to really get the look you want.

At some point I will sell few finished EmTronics for those who don't want to make their own so check out my store some time at Rarebeasts.

You can find the EmTronic2020 in my Etsy store here: https://etsy.me/3cHPfg6 or build your own with my Instructable here: https://www.instructables.com/id/EM-T...

Happy noise making

Supplies:

Arduino Nano
10k pcb mount vertical pot(RV09)
Tactile push button switch
1/8" audio socket(PJ392)
2.2uF radial capacitor
About 40cn of Wire
3d printed front panel and support arm, you don't need this for it to work but it's fun

Molasses Industries Wetlander

Published on Jun 21, 2019 Will M

via this auction

"Wetlander is an all analog organic touch synthesizer handbuilt from scratch in Richmond Virginia. It consists of a tangled oscillator/clock pair and three parameter pattern generator, intertwined in a recursive formation. The pattern generator takes its input from the clock, and in turn generates rhythmic/pattern data that feeds the clocks themselves, resulting in completely unpredictable evolving sonic structures evoking something organic and synthetic at the same time.

Furthermore, the center panel allows you to crosspatch different nodes in the synth with your fingers, allowing for flesh-based interaction/interruption of the processes being carried out.

All elements, including wooden case and manually etched pcb faceplate, were done in house. 1"

Crudlabs Crudman (Version 1, with EXTRAS) | Aphex Twin "Ageispolis" cover on Crudman

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
Aphex Twin "Ageispolis" cover on Crudman Published on Jul 18, 2017

via this auction - pics and additional details further below.

"Crudman is a unique electronic musical instrument based around a cassette Walkman hacked so its speed can be accurately controlled in musical intervals with Midi and 1v/octave CV. Here a Crudman plays a melody and a bassline of a song you'll hopefully recognize, via a Midi file played in Ableton.

The tape in the video is of a sine wave tuned to middle C, and the audio is straight into a recording device with no pedals or effects or anything. Straight unprocessed sine wave is not the most compelling sound in itself but it gives the clearest possible demonstration of how the Crudman affects a sound. Likewise I don't expect or want customers using these to cover classic songs but its a fun way to show the capabilities of the thing.

I believe this is the first of these videos to feature most of the Crudman's 4 octave range. The top 2.5-3 octaves are extremely stable and accurate, usually to about +/-10 cents. The lowest 1 to 1.5 octaves, heard in the bassline in the middle here, are super wobbly and the lower you go the less stable the tuning is. If you look at the bassline with a tuning app (I use PanoTuner for iPhone) you'll see its way off, like over 50 cents, but for whatever reason it still sounds pretty much spot on."

via this auction

"RARE monophonic cassette playback synth capable of amazing drones, leads, and sound effect - all based on recordings YOU supply.

Several videos available on YouTube demonstrating the use of this unique instrument; search "Crudlabs Crudman". Please note this is the Version 1 edition of the Crudman, and varies slightly from the later version shown in some videos. Video shown in listing is not of actual unit, and meant for demonstration purposes only.
Comes in original (plain white) box, original power supply, and printed instruction manual.
VERY light studio use.

EXTRAS INCLUDED: Five 60-second and ten 30-second blank cassette loop tapes, two tape splicers with splicing tape, an aluminum splicing block, a Sony F-V220 monophonic microphone, AND a separate Sony TCM-200DV cassette-corder (identical to the one on the unit) - all for use in recording and editing your own loop tapes. This extra cassette-corder unit may also be used to supply spare parts if needed for future repairs conducted at Crudlabs, located in Brooklyn, NY.

NOTE: Labels shown on inputs/outputs and switches are not factory screened/supplied, and have simply been added to assist in set-up and use."

MadLab ScuttleBut - Melodic Tones [No Talking]

Published on Mar 24, 2020 midierror

"More messing woith the ScuttleBut, this time with some softer, mellow tones. The Scuttlebut is a super small DIY electronics synth you can make ourself.

Get the ScuttleBut on Tindie here: https://www.tindie.com/products/madla...

Running through some delicious Valhalla Delay https://valhalladsp.com"

"Scuttlebut is a simple noise generator with a built-in mini sequencer. It's an experiment in minimalism to see how much could be squeezed from a simple 8-pin 8-bit microcontroller with minimal audio circuitry. It's easy to build - designed in fact for a soldering workshop for beginners - and only uses through-hole components.

The user controls are a couple of rotary presets, a pair of pushbuttons, a touch pad and a light sensor. The presets control a pair of oscillators and the pushbuttons select waveforms (sine, triangle, sawtooth etc.) and modulation (frequency, amplitude, phase etc.). The touch pad activates the light sensor which then further modulates the sound.

Includes a record mode in which a sequence of different sounds can be recorded and then looped back.

Supplied as a kit of PCB and components. Power input is via a 9V PP3 battery snap and audio output is mono through a 3.5mm jack socket."

Introducing Elmyra - a DIY drone synthesizer by Neutral Labs

Published on Mar 21, 2020 nyppy

"This is just a quick demo of my Elmyra prototype. You can easily build this synth yourself. I will share the schematics, PCB and code in a few days. A video detailing all the features is also coming up. Just watch this space or drop me a message.

This is obviously inspired by the Soma Lyra-8, which I love, but it's not a clone at all.

Reverb provided by Eventide Space. Next video will have the dry sound as well. The Elmyra delay can get pretty reverb-y on its own.

"This is acrazy bloopy mind-altering drone synth built using a printed circuit board and a soldering iron. Blinky lights and outrageous sounds help participants learn to solder and build this fantastic bleeping cmos noise synth that boasts four light-controlled pulse -wave oscillators one of witch has sync and two LFOs that modulate the oscillators via LEDs. Its fantastic fun to play with.

Depending on the age and experience of the participants this typically takes 1-2 hours"

Ouroboros System I • OR Drone

Published on Mar 16, 2020 Ouroboros Electronics

"More info/order: www.ouroboros-electronics.com

System I OR drone patch - a patch made by sending two oscillators and an audio rate LFO into the OR logic. Two of the oscillators are sent through attenuators before going into the OR to control their individual levels and influence on the OR output. The OR output is sent into a mult which is split to both the mixer output and also to the third attenuator which is then patched into the cv input of one of the oscillators producing a form of frequency modulation where it is being modulated by the sum of all three OR’d oscillators. The attenuator adjusts the amount of FM/feedback modulation. Though OR logics are mainly thought of as gate combiners - they can also be useful to produce a spectrum of sounds from crystalline and metallic tones to harsh dissonance. This patch demonstrates just one of many ways that the OR function can be used in the audio range. Reverb added via Eventide Space."

Ouroboros Subharmonic Drone Synthesizer

Published on Feb 12, 2020 Ouroboros Electronics

Don't miss the third video in the playlist above: Ouroboros System I + TR-606 • Techno

"The Ouroboros Subharmonic Drone Instrument takes a fundamental frequency and produces 5 different tones which are each an octave below the one before it. The large knob sets the fundamental frequency, and then the row of six knobs adjusts the volume of the fundamental pitch and it’s five subharmonics. Below max volumes the square waves will sound softer and mix together smoothly, and at full volume they will become grittier. There is also has a 1-pole low pass filter and a master volume control. It has a 3.5mm mono jack output, and is powered by a 9v battery. It is housed in handmade cherry enclosures with a linseed oil finish and a stainless steel bottom.
The enclosure is very slim (slightly less than an inch thick) yet extremely sturdy due to rounded edges, a natural protective finish and steel backing.
This synth is a one-off and is now available for $200USD plus $8 shipping within the US or $28 shipped internationally. To order - contact ouroboros.electronics.us@gmail.com

Reverb added via Eventide Space in the first part of this demo. No effects or processing were used in the second segment."

Side note: there are other pieces of kit named Ouroboros.
