Patching Panda Blast & Hatz V3 | Killer kick and hi-hat modules for Eurorack
video upload by Tom Churchill
"This is the second of a pair of videos I’m making about drums in Eurorack. In this one, I’m looking at two great-sounding analogue drum modules from Patching Panda: the Blast kick drum and Hatz V3 hi-hats.
In this video, I give a detailed overview of both modules and walk through all their parameters, then I build a couple of jams to let you hear them in context. As usual, you should find a few ideas for things to try no matter which modules you’re using."

Playlist:
1. Bristronica 24: MyVolts The Silent Alchemist Nears Shipping
We caught up with Caroline who gave us the latest update to the *Silent Alchemist*, a versatile power hub designed for musicians. Featuring five isolated USB-C outputs and a high-wattage sixth output capable of delivering 100 watts, the device can power a Mac with the remaining outputs providing 20 watts each. Its independent circuits ensure noise-free operation, catering to a variety of devices including the Dreadbox module and Sysmo slope generator.2. Bristronica 24: Circuit Happy ML2M Clock Sync module updates
The Silent Alchemist uses innovative step-up power tips to convert USB-C input to the correct voltage for various devices. There's also new feature: an uninterruptible power supply allowing seamless transition between wall and power bank sources. Also introduced were updated cables, such as silver candy cords and floating ring TRS to TS cables, expanding connection flexibility. The Silent Alchemist is expected to be available in December with a competitive pricing strategy.

At Bristronica 2024, we caught up with the creator of the *ML2M*, who introduced us to the latest version. The ML2M is a compact Eurorack module with Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing seamless synchronization with Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, and iOS music apps using Ableton Link without the need for cables. It either connects to an existing network or creates its own, ensuring robust sync even in environments with unreliable Wi-Fi. The module, which retains its 2HP size, now features MIDI integration through TRS jacks. Users can access a web interface to configure each output for different clock divisions and reset triggers, making setup straightforward and flexible.3. Bristronica 24: Archaea Exchange Patching Module
Alongside the ML2M, there's also the Missing Link Junior. This desktop version offers the same functionality but in a box format, complete with MIDI and CV clock outputs. Both products are now accessible, with a starting price of $250.
At Machina Bristronica 2024, we caught up with Arran from @archaea_modular_synthesis who presented the *Exchange Module*. This programmable patcher, a year in the making, evolved from its early prototype stage to a fully functional module. Arran explained how the Exchange can route synth voices via a beam controller and three exchange modules installed within the skiff, allowing for versatile patching. Operating like a matrix patchbay, it enables users to select inputs and outputs with the push of a button, create presets, and chain multiple modules for synchronized patching.
Communication between the modules occurs over the Eurorack power bus as well as over MIDI via the USB-C connection. The Exchange maintains analog integrity, ensuring there’s no conversion latency. The forthcoming release expected in late November 2024, includes a USB-driven editor for enhanced control capabilities.

"Etna is an advanced triple control analog multimode morphing filter, meticulously designed for precise and dynamic sound shaping. It allows for rapid or smooth transitions between diverse filter settings, known as snapshots.
Each snapshot comprehensively defines all of the filter’s parameters, which can be adjusted either swiftly or gradually. These transitions are controlled through an applied voltage or clock and triggers, with the flexibility to use up to eight distinct stages for creating complex filtering effects in a variety of audio applications.
In addition to its morphing capabilities, Etna incorporates analog controls that enable real-time, expressive modifications to the parameters of each saved snapshot. This enhancement not only enriches the morphing process but also provides a tactile, live experience that adds significant depth and nuance to the audio output, making it a powerful tool for both studio and live performance settings."
Patching Panda Particles Revisited

Patching Panda Punch MG - first patch
video upload by John Schussler
"I'm not entirely sure what to call the Punch MG. It's a mixer, it's a VCA, it's an envelope, but also it's none of those things. It's its own thing.
Try this: you put some sounds into it, plus some triggers. It has a decay envelope for each channel that you can adjust so that you can make those sounds percussive. That's part one.
Then you add each channel to the Mute group (or don't). This doesn't really mute the channels in any sense, it ducks them. The signal on one channel affects the envelope of the signal on another, and vice versa.
At least I think that's what's happening. In any case, it makes a group of sounds work really well together.

Phase modulation - 4 examples
video upload by John Schussler
Update: new video with 4 examples.
"Here are four VCOs that all offer phase modulation in one form or another:
Weston Precision Audio: PAO Phase Animated Oscillator
Patching Panda: Operat
WMD: Phase Displacement Oscillator
Joranalogue: Generate 3
I'm trying to get my head around how their implementations differ, and what the ultimate effects of those implementations are on the sound.
There's one more phase modulation VCO I have that I didn't include: the Mindphaser. It's a complex oscillator with a very different architecture, so didn't seem like a good fit. I did a couple videos on that a while back, if you want to hear some of its phasing.
Sequencer: Stochastic SIG. Modulating VCO: Intellijel Dixie II+

Bonding With the E-RM Polygogo (with Rainmaker and Norand Mono)
video upload by Red Means Recording Ambient
"I wanted to get to know the E-RM Polygogo oscillator and see if it was for me. It's ok! Very pretty to look at! If you have room for it in your case, and like visual feedback, this is a super cool choice. E-RM runs through Patching Panda Moon Phase and then into Rainmaker. Drums are from the Norand Mono, which makes a surprisingly good little analog drum machine.

Ephemere | Dual CV Recorder | by Patching Panda
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"éphémère (french for 'short-lifespan') is a dual channel CV recorder that can record, sync, splice and playback two independent modulation sources. It supports unipolar and bipolar ranges, but also audio rate sources. It can record up to 4 secs of audio in 44,1K if you wish allowing access to some 'musique concrete' applications. Finally, the outgoing CV can be quantized to any (user)scale, providing a great musical CV source."

Chainsaw VCOs through Moon Phase Filter
Precarious333 Music
"Just a little test of Acid Rain Chainsaw stereo supersaw VCOs used with Patching Panda Moon Phase. Both are stereo so seems a good fit. All 3 voices of Chainsaw are being sequenced separately by 3 channels of Industrial Music Electronics Stillson Hammer mkII with the 4th sequencing Erica Synths Pico Voice in acid bassline mode through G-Storm Electro 101-VCF and into 2hp Delay. It's a pretty rich sound for so few modules. It helps that Moon Phase allows for enhancement of the stereo field, and I begin to apply detune to Chainsaw's VCOs at the 01:20 mark. Recorded into Ableton as 1 stereo and 1 mono track. Reverb, compression, and EQ added in post."

Patching Panda Moon Phase // Mid side based stereo Eurorack filter
DivKidVideo
"Here’s the new Moon Phase stereo Eurorack filter from Patching Panda. Moon Phase is unique in that it implements a mid side matrix to construct a stereo image (that you can manipulate) from a pair of filters. There’s 8 different modes combining different filter types, frequency and resonance controls plus frequency span and stereo image controls all with CV control. Modes can be switched via a trigger (or oscillator) to get more drastic rhythmic shifts and the left hand input normalises to the right input to create stereo images from mono sources, or you can process stereo sources with the independent inputs. Be sure to grab the free quick start guide below and check out the links. Cheers!

Drums with WFM oscillator and Decay-VCA like Punch and Hatz from Patching Panda
Dziam Bass
"Hi everyone.
Some time ago I recorded this one small movie why I like triggers like Four Bricks Rook from Shakmat Modular , WFM oscillator from La 67 and modules from Patching Panda like Punch and Hatz for my drums.
Kick based on VCO WFM plus trigger by Four Bricks Rook - a great module for me because you can record your own rhythms with your hand, Punch to the ultimate VCA-DECAY so it is great for kick when I shorten and send out my sound from the oscillator and Hatz as the name says it is a hihats sound module.
open and closed hat in one module. as you can see, some fun with freq and decay to show what colors this hat offers.
WFM is an oscillator based on the old Kobol synth from 1970 so its character is also cool.
Have a nice day and thanks for watching . ;-)"

Superbooth 20HE: Patching Panda - Moon Phase and Ephemere
Published on Apr 25, 2020 sonicstate
"Patching Panda were kind enough to hook up with Nick over the interwebs to show off their new stereo multimode filter Moon Phase. With 8 different combinations of filter types you can use the filter to enhance the stereo width of your modular patches.
As well as the Moon Phase We also got a look at their new dual channel CV looper Ephemere. This is a high resolution recording interface for your CV signals. You can record up to 4 seconds of CV and then loop this back, change the playback speed and scan through the recorded CV. When nothing is patched to the input the you can use the input knob as an offset/cv generator and record pot movements into the module."

Patching Panda Vibrazum // Triple Resonant Multimode Filter in Eurorack
Published on Aug 27, 2019 DivKidVideo
"Here we have the very lovely triple filter 'Vibrazum' from Patching Panda (it's the "v2"). It's a single shared input into a network of mutlimode filters with independent and global control, separate and mixed outputs and CV over all the parameters. From simple characterful low pass to weird formant triple peak vocal sounds there's a tonne of range in here. Although it's not labelled as a stereo device plenty of the patch examples here are stereo, using Vibrazum to create a stereo image for FX or general synth tones. So grab some decent headphones or monitors to hear the details in the sounds. Any questions just ask, thanks for Patching Panda for sponsoring this video and cheers for watching!

Patching Panda Hatz - Dynamic Analog Hi Hat (Eurorack Percussion Module)
Published on Jun 11, 2019 DivKidVideo
"After first checking out Punch (link below) here's 'Hatz' from Patching Panda. Hatz is a closed and open hi hat module for Eurorack based upon classic analog hi hat tones from a whole history of drum machines. We have two blend-able noise colours from white to metallic, envelope shaping, decay modulation, two filters with modulation, accent, external input, closed priority open hi hat choking, accents and more. It takes to modulation really well for a range of hi hat sounds and can also be a noisy quirky backend for a synth voice when you use an external oscillator too."
