SoundForce Introduces New SFC-60 V3 TAL-U-NO-LX Juno-60 Hardware Controller

"The SoundForce SFC-60 V3 is a boutique class-compliant USB-MIDI controller dedicated to the fantastic TAL-U-NO-LX Juno-60 emulation. The original SFC-60 was the first SoundForce product to come out. I have come a long way since 2014 and this new version is based on all the lessons learned from several years of designing and manufacturing similar products. With a solid sheet metal case, colorful front panel and new software integration, it's my favourite controller so far. It is usable with any MIDI-mappable software or hardware but has special integrations with the TAL-U-NO-LX.

Features:
In collaboration with Patrick from TAL, special features have been implemented to improve the user experience and the hardware/software integration. Finally, all the LED-based physical switches can update their states when a preset is changed in the plugin. Also when switching instances on different tracks, the plugin can sync the controller and update the switches as well. It works a bit differently in each DAW, more details and videos on that coming soon. For the sliders/faders, the pick-up or scaling modes (similar to the Takeover modes in Ableton Live) can help avoiding "jumping" parameters. Those features require the latest version of the plugin. I would like to thank Patrick for his time and his contribution on this project.

Build quality
The controller is assembled in The Netherlands with parts from Europe and Asia. The enclosure is made of 100% sheet metal and is manufactured by Grawart (http://www.grawart.pl). The case is made of bent steel and powder coated in black. The front panel is aluminum, also powder coated and screen printed with scratch-proof white, blue and red inks. Walnut wood side panels of 8mm thickness are fitted to both sides of the controller. The sides are made in Amsterdam by Rob Gould (http://www.gouldcaseworks.nl/).

Pricing and Availability
The SFC-60 V3 is available on the SoundForce webshop for 349 euros incl VAT in the EU and 288 euros for customers outside the EU. In the US, Perfect Circuit is distributing the full SoundForce product line. US price is still to be announced."

"The SoundForce Dual ADSR is a feature-rich envelope generator with full CV control of each stage.
High performance digital module:

The Dual ADSR is powered by a 120Mhz ARM Cortex-M micro-controller with a built-in DAC. This modern chip allows for extremely smooth envelopes curves even at high frequencies. Thanks to digital technology, the implementation of CV control in software makes the hardware more simple thus economical, and allows for different time ranges and 2 curve responses (LIN/EXP).

Soundforce Dual Filter // "affordable" dual LP or HP OTA based filter in Eurorack

Published on Dec 21, 2019 DivKidVideo

Available at Signal Sounds for £129.00.

"Here we have the new Dual Filter Eurorack module from Soundforce. It’s an OTA based design that has it’s routes in the later updated Korg MS-20 filter cores. The Dual Filter is a dual independent mono filter where each of the filters can be set to low pass or high pass filter modes with jumpers on the back of the module. Patching one side into the other we can make HP-LP series processing chains, patch in dual mono, stereo or parallel processing and we can also make band pass filters by using both sides.

TIMING INDEX // SECTIONS
00:00 Hello & video previews
01:20 What is the Dual Filter? Features explained.
02:34 Raw sound demo, LP + HP sweeps
03:50 A quick note about signal levels

19:00 Musical audio rate modulation sequences for FM synthesis and phase modulation style sounds
20:35 Bandwidth adjusting drones
22:12 Swirling ambiences"

"The SoundForce Dual Filter is a 2-stage cascaded OTA design based on the late MS-20. The design has been fine-tuned with extended resonance control as well as a resonance CV input. Each filter can be either a 12dB/oct low-pass or 6dB/oct high-pass. To keep the module HPs on the low side, the filter mode setting is located on the back of the module. The module was designed to be a very affordable full-featured modern filter.

Highly efficient design:
This design attracted me very particularly due to its beautiful simplicity. With only 2 poles, it uses a total of 3 OTA ICs and 4 OP-AMP ICs for both filters even with the added resonance voltage control. Early on, efficiency and part counts were a focus during testing and development. In combination with automated manufacturing and a very short supply chain, the module has a very high quality standard at a very affordable price. The module uses only A-brand ICs and passive and no costs were cut during purchasing."

Soundforce DCO // Thick & rich analogue oscillator & mixer for Eurorack Modular Synths

Published on Oct 17, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Here we have the DCO Eurorack module from Soundforce. It's an analogue mixer based on DCO technologies of yesterday with a much higher quality modern take on the digital control element of the circuit. We get saw and square waves with lovely PWM and then two subs a noise source a mixed output with sliders to mix and blend the waves onto the mixed output. I've tried to make sure the video demonstrates the sound and functions but also really dive into some more creative and advanced patching for things like layered multiple outputs for fully realised musical pieces and also making a DCO drum kit out of the one oscillator. Skip around with the timing index below and let's chat in the comments.

TIMING INDEX // SECTIONS

00:00 Hello and patch previews

00:51 What is the DCO? Feature run down & sound demo

02:44 DCO in context - analogue subtractive patching with mixed waveforms, noise + subs.

04:09 PWM - Pulse Width Modulation - both “standard” and audio rate.

05:55 Creative layered patching for full musical pieces from one oscillator

08:00 Sync - sync demo and patch

09:14 DCO DRUM KIT! Really love this patch turning the DCO module into 5 percussion parts to build up a modular drum kit.

11:57 FM - you don’t often see FM on DCOs but there’s some interesting noisy character in this.

13:42 Phasing layered drones."

New SoundForce DCO Eurorack Module

SoundForce DCO - short demo video Published on May 6, 2019 SoundForce

"SoundForce introduces a digitally controlled oscillator module for Eurorack

The SoundForce DCO is an oscillator for Eurorack based on the architecture of the Juno-60/106 oscillator section. It is a modern homage to that sound using technology from the future. It provides true analog waveforms with digital stability.

Some tech-talk:
A DCO is not an all-analog VCO but also not a digital oscillator. It’s an hybrid design that combines the best of both. Similarly to some VCO’s, the DCO generates its core waveform, the saw wave, by charging a capacitor in an op-amp integrator configuration. A VCO will restart the waveform cycle when the signal has reached its maximum amplitude. But the DCO starts an new cycle when a micro-controller, a small computer chip, commands it to. The micro-controller also controls the rate at which the capacitor is charging, hence the frequency of the oscillator. As with a digital oscillator, the DCO acquires the CV input voltages and turns them into numbers that will later set the frequency of the oscillator. This is done inside the micro-controller using 16 bits sigma-delta analog to digital converters. All signals are true analog signals: the PULSE wave is derived from the SAW wave using a comparator and the SUB oscillators are generated using a flip-flop IC. Furthermore, the use of a very modern micro-controller with built-in 32 bits timers have improved the frequency accuracy a lot compared to the original design.

If you want to dive deeper in the technicalities of DCOs, check out this video from GOLT! [posted here]

Features:
The SoundForce DCO features 10 slide pots (faders) reminiscent of the vintage Roland synths. 5 sound sources are available: SAW, PULSE, SUB1 (1 octave lower), SUB2 (2 octaves lower) and NOISE. The built-in mixer allows you to mix them together using the faders and the MIX output jack. The PULSE has manual pulse width control, as well as PWM with a CV input and an attenuator. An FM input is also available with an attenuator. The oscillator can be hard synced to another oscillator using the SYNC input.

Specifications:
– 16HP
– Frequency range : 20Hz – 14kHz
– Depth: 24mm (+ power connector)
– Power: +12V 82mA, -12V 26mA
– V/OCT input range -3 to 7V
– FM input range -5V to 5V
– PWM input range -5V to 5V

Price and availability:
The module will be shown on the SoundForce booth this week at Superbooth (booth O501) along with some more upcoming modules. It’s available right now to pre-order at 229 euros incl. VAT (189 euros outside of Europe) on the SoundForce webshop. It will be shipping in June."
