"Putting all my cases to use at once. It was ironically hard to get started since everything together was a bit overwhelming.

Sputnik Modular Sequence Jam :: 5-15

"A sequencer-based jam on all Sputnik Modular modules."
Update:
Video Patch Notes :: 5-15
Published on Mar 3, 2018
"A video describing some of the modules and techniques used to produce the performance video "5-15".
The modules used for this patch are almost all from Sputnik Modular, which unfortunately is no longer producing Eurorack modular gear :-(
I wish I'd been a bit more organized in the presentation, but it was off-the-cuff and I was tired. In future videos I'll try to cover the signal routing a bit better."

Modular - A More Melodic Sputnik
Published on Feb 23, 2018 Mike Thomas
"A slight departure from the drone/noise/atonal pieces I've been creating with this setup. This piece has a combination of sequenced (but randomly-arranged) and generative melodies. Managed to eke out a little rhythmic cymbal thing, too.
I know my last few vids have been super low-tech video-wise, but sometimes I just want to capture something and move on. Hopefully these vids are still of interest :-)"

Modular Drone : Lost in Time Like Tears in Rain
Published on Feb 17, 2018 Mike Thomas
"Another in my 'Blade Runner Suite': a series of more-or-less atonal pieces made with my 'Seriously Sputnik' modular synth.
This piece is a mix of generative and sequenced tones and time. Sequencer timing itself is somewhat random. It is controlled by the pulse output of a channel of the Quad Function and Trigger Source. But that channel's attack and decay are randomly changed, which results in timing changing randomly (though subtly)."

Modular Generative Drone - C-Beams Glittering Near the Tannhauser Gate
Published on Feb 14, 2018 Mike Thomas
"Another scary/giant drone from the 'Seriously Sputnik' case. Don't worry -- I'll return to more melodic stuff by combining this case with another!
This tune is completely generative. There's no pre-set sequencing (which shouldn't be surprising if you've listened to it). Although there is a general tone to the patch I've found it very interesting to just sit and listen as it morphs. Sometimes there are some big surprises that will most likely never be repeated.
Most CV is from the West Coast Random source, with some added in by the Quad Function and Trigger Source (with a bit of self-patching). FM and Timbre shaping are happening on the two oscillators (Oscillator and Dual Oscillator). Quad VCF/VCA is used as a mixer, with its outputs going through Disting in ping-pong Delay mode and then 2hp Verb."

Noodling with a Sputnik Dual Oscillator
Published on Nov 5, 2017 Angroc Sound
"Westcoast synthesis is the reason I have decided to plunge into eurorack. Not much so far, but just a single Dual Oscillator can keep me entertained for hours. Such wide sonic capabilities.
Noodling on a very limited setup. No mults or stackable cables. Limited amount of cables to interface with the analog four/cirklon CVIO. Because of this I could only use a single envlope and none of the VCAs from the Gallilean Moons module."

Cleansing
davidryle
Published on Aug 13, 2017
"A short, ambient drone study in resolving discord with some fabricated sound effects. Using the MI Rings and Clouds with Z-DSP Halls of Valhalla and a pair of Turing Machines to make the intro portion. I added in a single voice from the 5U large format modular and a voice from the JV-1080. The tuning scales were controlled by the Q171 and Q172 Quantizer modules from Synthesizers.com. Starting with a diminished scale and ending with a major scale.
The synthetic thunder and rain were symbolic of the cleansing.
Thanks to Richard Galbraith for the tip on the 'Disasterous Peace' mode for Rings. Clouds was in 'Spectral Madness' mode.
Thunder and rain were made with a Sputnik West Coast Random Source, Q119 step sequencer in random mode and Q110 Noise module into a Yusynth Arp 4072 filter and a Moogah SEM filter, Q107 State Variable filter and Q150 transistor ladder filter. Additional reverb and delay with TC Electronic D-Two, Strymon Blue Sky and Lexicon MX200."

Sputnik West Coast Random Source: Sample & Hold + Switches (LMS: Eurorack Expansion Preview)
Published on Jun 17, 2017 Learning Modular
"The Sputnik Modular West Coast Random Source is perhaps best known for its Fluctuating, Quantized, and Stored Random Voltages, which are what set it apart from a typical “random source” module. However, it also has a traditional Sample & Hold, paired with 1:2 switches to create alternating triggers and sampled voltages. I explore that section in this movie, including using the switch to trigger alternating drum sounds or envelopes.
This is the fourth of four movies on the West Coast Random Source from my Learning Modular Synthesis: European Expansion, released by Lynda.com and LinkedIn Learning July 3, 12017. For more on using the West Coast Random Source, see the companion article on the LearningModular.com website (http://learningmodular.com/sputnik-wc...). Daily Modular Jam walkthrough, featuring Radio Music & DIY
Published on Mar 27, 2017 Izhar Ashdot
"After this afternoon's blackout, I started my daily Modular jam. It's my daily musical workout.
What made me fall in Love with Modular Synthesis is that although it is my music, it's new and surprising to me.
So here's a taste from today's jam, complete with subtitles describing my connections as I develop the patch.
This patch features The Organ Chords version of the Radio Music Thing plus other modules, many of them DIY."
