New Roland TR-8 7X7 Videos by Honeysmack

First acid jam with 7X7-TR8 + A4 + Devilfish TB-303 by Honeysmack

Published on Dec 18, 2014 Honeysmack

Follow-up to First look at Roland AIRA 7X7-TR8 Drum Machine expansion by Honeysmack

"First jam with the new Roland 7X7-TR8 expansion update. Hooked up a couple of friends old and new: Roland TB-303 Devilfish and Elektron Analog Four.

Nothing too serious just giving the TR8 little more context with some other gear. Plugged everything in, hit record on the camera and jammed the boxes. One single take no edits, no post, no worries. Tunable 707 & 727 sounds is a real plus.

Routing: 7X7-TR8 is the master clock, slaved MIDI to A4 sending sync to 303 Devilfish. 303 audio out is directly routed to the Space pedal. All other effects are from the TR8 and the A4. 303 might be a little too loud me thinks.

Thanks to Roland Australia for an advance copy of the new update."

7X7-TR8 techno jam with MC202 + Analog Four + VT3 by Honeysmack

Published on Dec 18, 2014

"Quick jam with the new 7X7-TR8 expansion together with the MC202 + Analog Four. Nothing too serious just finding my way around the new soundset for the TR8. The new expansion opens up the TR8 considerably.

Have always been a big fan of both the TR707 and TR727 (pictured in the video but no in use), great to have them easily accessed on the one machine. Some of the aditional sounds are also of value.

Routing: TR8 is the master clock, slaved to A4 sending sync to 202. Audio from 202 is routed directly to the VT-3. One single, take no edits, no post, no worries.

Somewhat reminds me a little of early Luke Slater/Planetary Assault Systems, which was unintentional but a good thing nevertheless."

Jammin with Waldorf Rocket, 2-Pole, TR808 and Devilfish 303

Published on Oct 25, 2014 Honeysmack

"Quick jam to demo the Waldorf Rocket synthesizer and 2-Pole analogue filter. These boxes are very quick, immediate and easy to use.

TR808 is being filtered by the 2-Pole. The 2-Pole is very dynamic which is great.

Routing: TR808 is send clock to the 303 which is then sending notes to the Rocket via MIDI. The Rocket is playing the same notes as the 303. My Devilfish has the Colin Fraser MIDIBass option in case you were wondering how the 303 is sending MIDI.

One single take, no edits, no worries. Audio straight from the desk. Little bit of reverb and delay from the desk.

Waldorf products are distributed in Australia through Audio Chocolate http://www.audiochocolate.com.au

"Love the Jomox 888. Those kicks stand up well next to the Roland 808.
We (jondent & cobramatic) are just having a bit of fun on a sat arvo. After a good red everything sounds better... The devilfish is very very different to a standard 303. Takes a bit of getting used to."

IF you were to get this modified now it would cost you $824 for the devilfish mods, $123 for the new tact switches, $92 for the blue Leds, $309 for the midi in, and $144 for shipping to OZ. Roland TB-303 with Early Devilfish Mod Implementation

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Alright guys, what you have right here is an amazing and rare opportunity to purchase an immaculately clean, original 303. The devilfish mod appears to be an early version without the branding and was performed many years ago by Robin Whittle himself here in Melbourne. It has switches for accent, slide and decay speeds, VCA and VCF inputs and accent output.

This particular 303 was purchased decades ago by the current owner while working professionally as a studio producer. It was cherished and well taken care of while the studio was operational and since it's closure has been safely bubble wrapped in storage. After much deliberation, it is now being very hesitantly put back on the market. These things are hard to come by let alone in this condition, if you've been dreaming of owning a real deal 303, this is your chance. Don't hesitate, this thing won't last."

Boomstar 4075 + Octatrack + TR8 + Devilfish 303

Published on Aug 23, 2014 Honeysmack

"First run demo with the Boomstar 4075 sequenced via MIDI from the Octatrack. Devilfish 303 is going through the Boomstar's external in for that extra layered sound.

Delay is the Boss Digital Delay RDD-10, with additional effects from the DP/2 and Fireworx (all not pictured).

Boomstar 4075 is the one with the ARP 2600 filter.

One single take, no edits, no post. Audio straight off the desk.

Devil Fish-Glass jar percussion

Published on Jul 13, 2014 TB-303 Devil Fish

"An example of how the Devil Fish can be used as percussion and easily morphed back into acid.
A live jam of a track called 'The machinist' by 'Syx Ekoh'.
Devil Fish is effected by the Way Huge Echo-Puss delay.
SH-101 has an internal seq playing clocked by the Analog four and using the delay and reverb of the Analog four.
Analog four has a Pad sound, a baseline and a 4 on the floor kick.
Modular has break percussion from the TipTop DB808 and Hats8080 modules triggered by the Trigger Riot.
RS7000 extra percussion.
Kaoss pad 2 is used for vocal sample manipulation, samples are from 1940's and 50's Vocational documentaries."

Devil Fish-Kaoss Pad & Devil Fish-Controls the Modular

Published on Jun 20, 2014 TB-303 Devil Fish·20 videos

"Centered around the Korg Kaoss Pad 2, a live glitched up version of a track called 'Empathy' by 'Random Knobhead'. Bass from the Analog four. Percussion from Tiptop modules BD808, Hats808 triggered by Tiptop Trigger Riot, Make Noise DPO through Intelligel Korgasmatron into Make Noise QMMG triggered by 4MS Pingable envelope and snare & noise hit from the Yamaha RS7000, Delayed noise from Roland SH-101 through Moogerfooger MF-101 (LPF) with cutoff freq modulated by sine wave from CP251 Control Processor, then into Make Noise Echophon modulated by the Woggle Bug and freeze in triggered from Trigger Riot. Blips from Roland TB-303 Devil Fish through Moogerfooger MF-104z Delay with time modulated by sine wave from CP251 control processor.
The KP2 is an insert effect on the mixer with all channels running through it.
The Midi keyboard is triggering snare sounds in the RS7000.
A mellower version of this with two extra synth lines from the Analog four can be found (and downloaded) at:-https://soundcloud.com/linxstar/empat..."

Devil Fish-Sequencing Intellijel Atlantis

"Despite the complex looking patching arrangement it is actually very basic (apart from the modulated drop in sound effects)
It goes like this-
TB-303 Devil Fish CV out to Intellijel Atlantis 1V/OCT in. " " Gate out to " " TRIG in.
Steady State Fate Positronic Transient Gate in diode slew mode with clock output from TipTop Trigger Riot to CV A Step Response in, and 4MS PEG Env 1 out to CV A Damp Control in.
TipTop Trigger Riot is receiving clock from the Elektron Analog four.
4MS PEG is being triggered by Trigger Riot and modulated by Intellijel Dr.Octature II LFO out to Env1 Skew.
The Devil Fish is receiving triggers to the Dynamic Bank Switching CV ins from the TipTop Trigger Riot.

The modulated sound effect drop ins are the complex patching part, which goes like this-
Make Noise DPO-into Intellijel uVCF-into Make Noise Echophon- All modulated by Intellijel Dr. Octature II/Atlantis & 4MS PEG- Output from Intellijel Unity Mixer.
Dr.Octature II in LFO mode with outputs 1,2,3,4,5,6, and 8 routed to DPOs-Shape, Angle, Fold, Osc2 Expo(FM) and FM bus index, Atlantis Sample and Hold to DPO Osc1(as LFO) 1v/oct, Expo and Linear(FM), and to uVCF FM1. PEG is receiving modulation from Dr.Octature II into Env1 Skew, and Env2 Skew and Division, the PEGs OR out is modulating the uVCF FM2.
Dr.Octature II is modulating the Echophons Echo, Freeze and Pitch 1.
Dr.Octature II is in an FM cross patching scenario with the DPO OSC1 sine (as LFO) and Osc2 sine outs to FM in 1&2 respectively.
A solo of this sound can be viewed on my other channel, here is the link:-http://youtu.be/omjaxYdhiOI"

Devil Fish-Controls the Modular

Published on May 19, 2014 TB-303 Devil Fish·19 videos

"A live jam of a track called 'Sparrows HEAD' by Random Knobhead.
MIDI, AUDIO, CV signal routing-
To start in some sort of logical order, I will begin with the master tempo and transport commander:-
Yamaha RS7000 is sending MIDI (100bpm) to the Roland TB-303 Devil Fish and the Elecktron Analog four. The RS7000 has percussive parts playing from internal synth voices and is not sending out note data.
The Analog four is sending clock pulses to the Roland SH-101 and the TipTop Trigger Riot modules Ext Clock Ins, The A4 is playing a panning percussive pseudo random sound, and has the SH-101 running through its Reverb unit, it is also sending a gate pulse on the first of a 64 step pattern to the Trigger Riots Reset in.
The SH-101 is playing an internal sequence.
The Trigger Riot is sending (the A4s) Clock out to the Make Noise Woggle Bug and Echophon modules, along with Clock Divisions to the TipTop BD808 module, and Clock Division Pulses to the Echophons Freeze in, and to the Devil Fishes 2 Dynamic Bank Switching inputs alternating it between 4 or 8 internal patterns depending on if 1 or 2 patterns were selected.
The Devil Fish is sending CV to the Make Noise DPO modules second oscillator (the first is an FM source for the second which is also being FMed by the Make Noise Woggle bug modules 'smooth' random out), the Devil Fish is sending gate out to the 4MS Pingable Envelope Generator which is opening the Make Noise QMMG (DPOs channel after its filtered through the Intelligel Korgasmatron module), the Devil Fish is also sending its Accent out to the TipTop Hats808 modules Open Hat. Devil Fishes Audio out is through the Boss SD-2 distortion pedal(not used) and through the A4(with no effect).
The iPhone is not synced but still set to 100bpm it has the NodeBeat app playing a simple melody into the Echophon which has the Pitch knob modulated by the Random out of the Woggle Bug.
All Audio from the modules is routed to the QMMG then to the mixer.
The Korg Kaoss Pad 2 is a send effect for the mixer and is used to 'Stutter' the RS7000 and Modular together and separately.
I think thats all..."
