KORG Volca Beats and Bass Jam Session (oLLiLab - KORG OD Dub)
Published on Nov 16, 2013
"Got two of the KORG volcas today, they keys is still on back order :( However, plugged them in and this is what came out after a few minutes of tweaking without reading any manuals. Seriously? I think they sound Awesome and are so easy to play around with.
What you see in the video is playing live, except for the MS20 mini in the background doing the simple triggered 16th beat two note melody. Got some envelope on the G3 with delays and reverb.. and the jomox is connected on the Volca Bass only with some longer and more shaky ddl fx.
The KORG Monotron and monotribes does some random noises on this track,(also responsible for the noisiness in general) the volcas are pretty silent.

Korg MS20 Including Schematics, Manuals and Setting Examples
Note the following documents are from the seller. You can check the seller's listings here or contact the seller on Ebay. Do not contact me.
"includes Schematics, Manuals and Setting Examples... My 75-page Information Packet is the definitive collection of MS-20 documentation. It includes a photocopy of the hard to find Service Manual that tells you exactly how to align keyboard intonation. It contains physical and schematic drawings of the entire instrument, a complete parts list, and circuit board layouts in case you have to repair something. As a musician/engineer, I wanted ALL the paperwork, so I schmoozed copies out of the factory guys. The Owner's Manuals are first generation copies and include many notes and hand-written custom voicings I developed. The Service Manual was already a copy when I got it from the Korg repair shop. Since 1999, I have sold over 300 sets of these documents to buyers around the world... Im including a copy of the original Owner's Manual which has all the basics, like a block diagram and signal flow chart, patching tricks, and many basic sound patches. It also has a scary looking "CAUTION" warning you to never, EVER open those secret rubber plugs!
There are tricks for using the External Signal Processor, so you can plug in your guitar or microphone and create control voltages which in turn control the synth. Remember: the MS-20 was designed by Yasuhiko Mori, who also created the famed Vocoder! Very cool effects!
A Supplemental ESP Manual elaborates on pitch to voltage and expression pedal control. As an engineer, I often used my Korg like a broad-band signal generator for machine setup, creating tones from 20 to 12 kHz ... so there are patches for that too.
And there's that hard to find Service Manual with the crucial VCO Alignment Procedure ... the "secret" process that lets you pop open those rubber plugs without fear. You'll never get caught "playing in the cracks" again ... unless you really want to!"

An Interview with KORG's Fumio Mieda & Hiroaki Nishijima
via @YabanKim
"my talk (german) with #Korg #Synthesizer-gurus Fumio Mieda & Hiroaki Nishijima http://www.amazona.de/report-korg-vintage-die-ms20-entwickler-fumio-mieda-und-hiroaki-nishijima/ … @matrixsynth"
Googlish translation here.
"Amazona:
Can you briefly tell how you came to Korg?
Fumio Mieda:
At first I had to construct no interest in synthesizers, but desire a new organ and therefore met Mr Kato, that was so 1968/1969. He listened to my ideas and gave me the OK to build a prototype for him. Because there should be two manuals and I had thought different functions, it took around one and a half years until I had finished the organ. So, at least I thought it would be an organ, but the people I showed it said: 'This is no organ, which is a synthesizer!'.

Mini Synth Orchestra “MSO-1” in Custom Cabinet
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Brittle stR music
via this auction
"All units are used but in excellent condition, mounted in a custom cabinet. All cables, power supplies, original boxes and manuals are included. There’s even a spare 13A socket in the rear-mounted plug board to power your controller, or another mini instrument. The cabinet has room for something like a Pocket Operator or 1010Music Nanobox, and a spare stereo channel in the mixer. All units sit firmly, held in by gravity.
What you hear in the video is the MSO-1 recorded in stereo, with only some compression and EQ to tame the bass. All spatial FX come from the MSO-1. The NTS-1 has the deep atmospheric effects featured in Korg’s ‘logue synths, and can receive 3rd party oscillators and FX algorithms. The M100 has some of TC Electronic’s high quality reverbs in a small box!
UK bidders only please.
Korg Volca Bass (synth)
Korg Volca Keys (synth)
Korg NTS -1 (synth)
TC Electronic M100 (FX)
Behringer Xenyx 802 (mixer)
Keyboard not included."

• Three new instruments added: EP-1, VOX Super Continental and ARP 2600.
• At Superbooth 2024, we're previewing the KC ARP 2600: true to the original sound and character, with thoughtful modifications and additions.

This is the only ARP 2600 plug-in that can faithfully recreate all 100 sounds in the original 2600 Patch Book. Extensive anti-aliasing techniques deliver truly premium audio quality. KC ARP 2600 adds both classic modifications and entirely new modules, while preserving the distinctive character and design philosophy of the original instrument.

Korg Polyphonic Ensemble P

"This amazing vintage synth was the first polyphonic model introduced by Korg. This Univox "K-4" version adds sensuous hardwood veneers for a more upscale appearance.
This particular unit was used very carefully by a local church group.
Major Features (from the Owner's Manual):
--Refined 7 Preset Tones. String, Pipe Organ, Brass, Electric Piano, Piano, Harpsichord, Clavichord
--Controls with a wide range of freedom. Tones can be synthesized freely by means of control knobs. Almost an infinite range of tones can be synthesized. Example: Koto (Japanese harp), sitar, harp, horn, human chorus, etc.

--Korg's exclusive Traveler mechanism.
--Octave Coupler for richer sound.
More details about this vintage gem (including service manuals and owner's manuals) can be found at http://www.korganalogue.net"

KiwiTechnics KiwiSix Upgrade for KORG Polysix In the Works

"In development and coming soon The KiwiSix Upgrade features:-
• A complete replacement board for the troubled Korg Polysix KLM-367 circuit board. These are usually battery damaged which can render the synth unusable.
• 1024 Tones can be stored and edited. It is also possible to temporarily edit any Tone. Tones are selected using a two button system. The first button selects the high digit (1-8) and the second button the low digit (1-8). This allows 64 tones (1-1 to 8- 8) on any bank. There are 16 banks that are selected using the A-D bank buttons. The high digit of the tone is displayed as a flashing tone button and the low digit is a steady light so the selected tone can be viewed at a glance.
• MidiCC support for all parameters, Midi Sysex support for Tone Dump & Load.
• Midi In & Out Channels can be separately set.
• Patch Editor Control of Parameters (requires PE v 5.0 or later)
• Two styles of Polyphonic (7th note override or 7th note ignored) and Last note priority Unison Key Assign Modes
• Chord Mode. Any chord with up to 6 notes can be set and played from any key
• The Arpeggiator can be clocked from the internal/external clock or midi clock divided by 3,4,6,9,12,18,24,36,48,72,96,128,144,168 or 192.
• Arp modes are Up, Down, Up and Down, 0, 1 or 2 octaves and can be controlled via midi
• Key transpose allows transposition to any key Up or down up to 2 octaves
• Arpeggiator can be Started, Stopped & Continued using Midi Commands
• Appeggiator will Output Midi Data
• Internet update system
• The Upgrade comes with a replacement metal plate for the power cord. This plate has an IEC socket for a standard power cord (note - Power cord is not supplied), screws and space to mount the Korg Serial Number plate and midi in and out sockets are mounted. An internal cable is supplied to plug into the KiwiSix Upgrade board for Midi I/O.
• Installation is simple and the only soldering required is for the Power wires to the replacement plate. Full installation instructions will be in the User Manual.
• Future plans are for other features to be controlled via midi. Due to the lack of control buttons it will not be possible to add further options using the front panel controls so these will be available using midi control only.
• Compatible midiCC control set for all Kiwitechnics products
Full details, prices, release date and manuals will be posted here as soon as they are available. Please do not email about these in the meantime as time spent answering questions will only delay the product."

Korg ARP 2600FS Goes Surface Mount
Compare the pics of the inside to an original ARP 2600 here.

"Patrick Jöricke (AKA DSLman) opened up his new Korg ARP 2600 FS to see what’s inside and its featured in an article on Amazona.de
It’s answers the question, “Are the circuit components thru-hole (like the original) or surface-mount?” The answer, with photographic proof, is: surface-mount.
Patrick, who is the leading authority on building and modding the TTSH (he’s built 60 of them and repaired 20), says in the comments below the article that the Korg 2600 is worth the 4000€ asking price, considering all of the labor and assembly.
Here are his comments, German—> English in google translate:
[quote]
If you first consider the following points:
material costs
Labor costs
Prototyping costs / development
Profit
Taxes
transport
Risk premium
Aftersales / support / manuals / firmware etc.
Then you take into account the two hand-made housings in terms of wages and materials, which you can't get really cheap even on CNC wood milling machines, not even in Asia.
The pcbs cost almost nothing, nor do the SMT components. (Approx. 100 € for everything)
It only gets “expensive” with the sockets and sliders.
The panel does not cost the world either (20-50 €).
What takes several hours is putting it together.
The roadcase probably costs another 100 € (presumably through external)
All in all, that fits with € 4,000.
We also want them to benefit and are willing to continue building more of them.

KORG Releases KRONOS System Version 1.5.0

New features
KRONOS system version 1.5 includes a number of new features, as listed below. Please refer to the updated PDF manuals for more information.
• 7 more User Banks each of Programs, Wave Sequences and Drum Kits, labeled USER‐AA through USER‐GG.
• The maximum number of RAM Multisamples has been increased from 1,000 to 4,000, and the maximum numbers of RAM Samples and Multisample Indexes have each been increased from 4,000 to 16,000.
• Support for connecting USB MIDI class‐compliant controllers directly to the KRONOS.
• Installation of an additional 1GB of RAM is now supported, and can be performed at any authorized Korg service center. This approximately doubles the maximum available sample RAM, up to about 2 GB.
The following items describe the major functional improvements and bug fixes included in this operating system update.
General
[Bug fix]
IMPORTANT: When playing samples using VMT - for instance, when playing the SGX-1 - on very rare occasions the system may have spontaneously restarted. This has now been fixed.
Effects
[Bug fix]
When changing Programs, Combinations, or Songs, the noise from the “Stereo Analog Record” effect may not have stopped. This has now been fixed.
MIDI
[Bug fix]
When receiving a MIDI “All Notes Off” message, the KRONOS responded as if “All Sound Off” had been received. This has now been fixed.
Program mode
[Bug fix]
In CX-3 Programs, in some cases the sliders and drawbars might have responded as if they were moved in the opposite direction. This has now been fixed.
Combination mode
[Bug fix]
During Combination change, in some cases notes might have been stuck. This has now been fixed.
Sequencer mode
[Bug fix]
In Sequencer mode, the Drum Track didnʼt send out MIDI events. This has now been fixed.
[Bug fix]
An operation error may have been caused when executing Erase Measure and Delete Measure menu commands. This has now been fixed.
[Improvement]
When the menu command “Bounce All Tracks to Disk” was selected, the recording level was reset to zero. Now, the previous recording level setting is retained.
Disk mode
[Bug fix]
An operation error may have occurred when accessing USB devices containing ADPCM format WAVE files. This has now been fixed.
Various other minor improvements and bug fixes are also included in this update."

2020 Korg ARP 2600FS Reissue "Scratch 'n Dent"
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"If you haven't heard, these Korg ARP 2600FS Reissues sold out like hotcakes upon their extremely limited release this year. They are absolutely fantastic pieces with functionality and tone that rivals the original, no question about it. Rather than go into the full specs you can easily find online along with excellent demos and videos on YouTube, allow me to just get down to the nitty gritty:
First off, this came to me sans road cases. I don't know what happened to them, but they are gone. And, unfortunately, this one has sustained a little wear and tear in it's very short life. Some of the tolex has been scuffed on the outside and reglued, 2 metal feet are missing (I think those are easily replaced), and the lower part of one side of the front panel is loose from the wood bracket it screws into. Upon inspection, the wood had been split-up a bit around where the screws go in, but it has been repaired albeit not the most amazing job I've ever seen (you don't see it so I don't know why anyone would really care that much). Because of this, the bottom screw does not tighten, but I think this could be repaired well enough with wood shavings in the screw holes. That's usually an easy, safe, and surprisingly effective fix.
Cosmetically, the face plate is immaculate and like-new. It seems to be working perfectly thought I did not test the MIDI. Everything else (sliders, buttons, keys, reverb, panning) seemed to be perfectly fine and great.
As you have probably already seen, these are very expensive on the used market. Korg has no intention of doing any kind of re-release of these, so what's out there is as good as it's going to get. You see these in the high-$6k to mid-$7k range when they are for sale (granted, they come with all their kit) and they actually sell.
Most importantly, as mentioned, it works fine. Save yourself a few bucks for some bumps and bruises and the lack of something you might not have any use for, anyway. Comes with all the original cables supplied and, funnily enough, the original casters. Manuals are available online. I wish it was "Mint", but it just is what it is now. Still, this would be a nice piece for the studio!"
